Glass is a good choice for cranking all around but it depends on personal preference. We all know it's not very sensitive but keeps them hooks pinned. I personally use a graphite cranking specific rod but I have previously owned a glass rod and I liked it, I actually regret selling it. You have to fish it for yourself to really make that decision.

Why don't you just get an ugly stick for catfish? Maybe get a spinning reel cheap one? I personally wouldn't want to get cat fish bait on my curado or on the handle of any of my st croix's. You don't need an expensive reel or an expensive rod for catfish nor do you need a sensitive rod.

My brother in law owns a boat, and he doesn't talk about it but he can't swim, he always wears his pdf all the time. I guess something happened in high school from what I've heard during swim and now he just won't go in more than waste deep. He loves to fish though and he loves being on the water just not in the water.

I presume that you are saying that the reel gets used alot when you say "they go threw them" I'm aware of that however my opinion still remains the same especially because the reel is less than a year old.

Since it's the new k I would call shimano and talk to them about it that reel is a new reel should not be giving you problems already. I've dealt with shimano customer service before and they are very helpful.

The new diawa legalis and a mojo bass is the perfect combo and is in you're budget.

Since it's your first one I think you should go with the curado it's more forgiving and easy to learn. You will probably get lots of different opinions on this one.
