  1. While surfcasting for stripers, a teaser rig was very effective. I haven't really seen any mention of these rigs when seeking LM bass. I'm seriously going to give this a whirl this upcoming season. Has anyone used this technique? It does have some drawbacks but when casting distance isn't required I've had pretty good luck with them. Oddly, most stripers I landed went for the teaser and not the larger trailing lure....
  2. Looks like I'm in good company..... Now my paddle is always leashed to the yak unless I am washing it..... I always wondered about rods stowed in a tube on a trailer. Trailers tend to bounce around a lot and if rods are inside the tube without anything to cushion them, I'd be concerned about damaging the rods. A lot of people use them so I guess it's not an issue....
  3. I think I did one better. Once and only once, we got to the pond we fish and I realized I never packed my paddle. Not wanting to waste fishing time going back home a get my AWOL paddle, I used my hand paddle the entire day (feeling really foolish) but I did catch some fish (and learned a valuable lesson).......
  4. On the water I have only 2 rods in the yak. The remaining rod stays in the case inside the truck as a backup....
  5. Thanks. I should have specified. I fish from a yak. The double rifle case is maxed out with 3 rods & reels. When we unload the truck and cart the yaks, rods are placed inside the cockpit till I get to the launch point, and then place in the rod holders on the yak.....
  6. How do you transport your rods and reels? I take 3 rods with reels and one spare reel with me on outings and transport them in a foam lined rifle case (DoskoSport). It was about $25 or so and does a nice job keeping them safe....
  7. This is interesting.... I back all my spinning reel spools with mono and top off with braid....
  8. I recognize that this wasn't directed towards me but I feel the need to chime in. I've been on several paranormal investigations and have a diverse background in this arena, yet I would be extremely cautious when visiting such places. Attachments can and do happen even with proper preparations and that can get really bad really quickly. This is just my opinion based on my experiences....... The event I shared is just the tip of the iceberg regarding my experiences. I've had 3 other significant experiences and you definitely won't believe yet they happened and two of the three were witnessed by others....
  9. There is, but for the reason that you mentioned, any photographic evidence, no matter how compelling, will be said to be altered in some way. A very good way to photograph spirits is with a full spectrum camera which few people have.... The most compelling evidence is direct experience. I'm not suggesting that you get a Spirit Board and summon spirits. That's a wrong and a very dangerous approach. Never summon what you cannot dismiss....
  10. None taken..... "A mind is like a parachute. Neither work well unless they are open."...... If one embraces only the physical world, I recognize that things of this nature sound like Bovine Scatology. In western society, it's perfectly acceptable to go to synagogue, mosque, church or other places of accepted worship and pray to something unseen. In indigenous cultures, the world of spirit is very real and permeates everyday life. It's really about one's perception of reality. Research in neuro-physiology tells us our brain processes 400 billion bits of information a second yet we are only aware of something in the order of 2000 bits of information per second. If so, then what are we missing? Answer - nearly everything. Society (western) conditions us to believe these things don't exist and are of little value. Children "see" perfectly, meaning that they sense and intuit things that most adults cannot. This aperture of "seeing" slowly closes for most until it is completely gone. For a few it does remain open. For others, a traumatic event awakens this ability. One of my favorite teachers who was a former Ranger company commander was shot in the head by a machine gun bullet travelling 2832 feet per second when a machine gunner in a support by fire position shifted the wrong way during a lift and shift. Miraculously, he survived. Not only did he survive, but he also had clairvoyant/pyschic abilities when he had none previously. That said, and assuming you are young, I would suggest you keep an open mind in your life's travels. Think outside the box, and new worlds errupt..... If I remember correctly, there's something that psychologists call reticular activating systems, where the brain screens out images that it's been conditioned to believe don't exist. If you have been conditioned to believe they don't exist, then you won't see what's really there....
  11. Sometimes it's not the mind that is playing tricks on you....
  12. Readers Digest version- Although I wasn't fishing, I was with my GF in the fishing section of a fair sized outdoor store. My GF is a sensitive (read psychic, medium, etc. etc.) and it's not uncommon for us to have "paranormal" experiences. To both of us, we view them as SOP and are quite normal. While I was looking at their lures, she announced that we weren't alone. There was a distinct cold spot that I even felt (it had nothing to do with their HVAC or drafts). I asked her to describe who was with us and she told me in great detail who he was and why he was there. Apparently, when he was alive he used to stop in the store to drink coffee and shoot the breeze with the employees. She even knew what he passed from, lung cancer. I found an older employee that appeared to have worked there a long time and asked him if there was a guy who used to hang out and drink coffee at the store. He replied there was and he described him but the descriptions didn't match. The guy he was describing was tall and the fellow that my GF was sensing was short and a little on the heavy side. I asked the employee if there was anyone else, maybe someone short. He then replied "Oh, that's so and so (I forgot his name) and he used to hang out here too. He went on to describe him and that he had passed from lung cancer. The physical descriptions matched perfectly....... At the launch site of our favorite pond, she sometimes "sees" anomalies and when she points them out I have on occasion have seen them as well. More often than not what I see is a "shimmer" or an obvious disturbance in the fabric of time and space. We also sense that we are being watched. That said, every time we go there, I leave a tobacco offering for the woods and another tobacco offering for the water and prayers of gratitude and thanks are said before I begin fishing. I do this every time as I follow Native ways...
  13. Fish with more focus yet have an open mind. Try new techniques and master them. Hopefully, all my recent surgeries (foot & bilateral full knee replacements) are in the past and nothing will interfere with the upcoming season.
  14. Thanks for all the replies! It looks like I'll have to pass on this type of pluggin'. I'd have to replace my rod & reel in order to do this correctly which isn't in the budget right now. It does look very interesting...
  15. How heavy are we talking? I currently use 20# braid on a medium 7' spinning rod/reel. Might this be too "light"? When I'm out on the water (kayak), I'll fish hard for 5-7 hours, so one might consider me committed. Another item that might be a deal breaker is that I'm catch & release only and most often replace trebles with barbless single VMC hooks. I don't want to spend a load of loot on something that I can't modify to suit my needs..... Any ideas?
  16. Thanks and wow! What makes these so much more expensive than a non-jointed plug?
  17. I've seen some videos of multi-jointed swimbaits and the fluid action looks enticing. Any recommendations that don't break the bank. I've seen some as high as $24 and I really can't see myself tossing a costly plug. The flip side is that what might look and swim good, might not be a "fish catcher". Many times they are just "fisherman catchers"...
  18. Does anyone have any experience with the Trapper wide gap hooks pertaining to catch & release? I'm waiting for some to arrive and I only fish catch & release. I'll crush the barbs flat to facilitate hook removal and minimize injury to the fish. It appears that these hooks might be more difficult to remove....
  19. Thanks! I'll give DVT as shout. They are not too far from me......
  20. Does anyone have any info or link to parts for the 300 Pro? I've searched and no joy. I really like these reels (I have 3) and they've served me well. I work them hard but now they need some TLC......
  21. I just took a look at the Owner ST-41 treble online and it appears that it has their version of a "shovel cutting edge" similar to what the Razor Edge sharpener produces. Interesting......
  22. Awesome pic!!! Yours is a LOT clearer than the one's I took. Beautiful!!
  23. I agree. I was really impressed with the finish. I haven't given it the thumbnail test but will shortly.
