  1. Good to have you back! Great pic, too! 8-)
  2. Congratulations! ;D ;D ;D
  3. Yes, I am still fishing it on one reel. This you may find odd, but in stained water the line does not "disappear" and I don't like the florescent blue tint on the reel. A better review would need to address clear water. BTW, thanks to Burley, I picked up a spool of CXX for another try. Crazy, huh? 8-)
  4. 6 lb. CXX on spinning tackle is just fine. I fish everything from 8-25 lb. on casting tackle and don't have ANY problems. I highly recommend the line for anyone who values strength and abrasion resistance. I fished CXX exclusively for several years. For those interested in the 2nd best line you can buy, I highly recommend CXX, too. My only issue with P-Line is manageability in cold weather. I fish for smallmouth October through March and the CXX simply has too much memory to fish. The higher pound test lines exacerbate the problem. 8-)
  5. Why ask after you bought the line? CXX sucks on spinning tackle and works okay on baitcasting gear in warm weather. CXX is tough, strong and some of the toughest line on the market. Manageability is the issue. 8-)
  6. Well, I don't know what color "glow" is, but I suspect they will fish just fine. 8-)
  7. As Bantam1 noted, there are certain lines recommended for a variety of conditions. On the other hand, you can keep it simple: Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb breaking strength) Baitcasting gear: Hybrid #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb breaking strength) 8-)
  8. Well...Here's another take... I fish pubic ponds a lot and I carry a trash bag stuffed in my pocket. On any given day, I remove a few cans, bottles and wrappers. I suggest everyone give this a shot, it's really no big deal once you get started. 8-)
  9. We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new members that make the effort to introduce themselves. If you would just occasionally post a Welcome! note in the Introduction Section, we would really appreciate everyone's participation. You don't need to make this a part of your routine, just once in awhile would be great. Thank you! -Kent 8-)
  10. Well, the basic rigs are the same, regardless of price. These are mine: Spinning: G. Loomis GLX PR844S/ Stella 2500FD (live bait) St. Croix Legend Elite ES70MF/ Stella 2500FB (soft plastics) St. Croix Avid AVS 66MLF/ Stella 1000FA (soft plastics) Baitcasting: Avid AVC66MF/ Core 100MG (hard jerkbaits, small crankbaits and topwater) G. Loomis GLX PR844C/ STX (big hard baits) St. Croix EC70MHF/ CTE200GT (3/4 oz Ledgebuster and big spoons) Lamiglas SR705R/ CTE200GT (deep diving crankbaits) G. Loomis GLX BCR854/ Curado 200E7 (jigs) G. Loomis GLX MBR844C/ Calais (weighted soft plastics) When I am smallmouth fishing on the Tennessee River, I only carry two rigs 90% of the time: PR844S for live bait and the AVS66MLF for grubs and tubes. The G. Loomis is usually spooled up with YZ #6, the Avid with #4. 8-)
  11. Regardless of your pricing point, this is my suggestion for smallmouth rigs: Spinning tackle: 7' MF (firm tip)/ 2500 series reel/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 Baitcasting (hardbaits): 6 1/2' MF (soft tip)/ low profile reel/ #12 Hybrid 8-)
  12. 4/0 for bass and striper. When you get bit, extend your arms and lower your rod tip so the fish is given a short run before lifting the rod. Firmly raise the rod tip and reel quickly. Never let a fish stage, it should be pulling drag or coming your way. 8-)
  13. I don't know why not. The Tennessee River is carved through "The Rocks From Hell". I have no issues with Hybrid and consider the line highly abrasion resistant, as advertised: http://www.yo-zuri.com/Products/Prodline/Hybrid.htm 8-)

  20. With live bait, I ONLY fish Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hooks. 4/0 for striper, #6 for smallmouth bass. If you fish circle hooks you don't set the hook, you apply pressure. Hook-ups and landing will improve dramatically and you will rarely (never) have gut hooks. 8-)
  21. Yep, that's a good'un! ;D ;D ;D
