November Jerkbaits
If you just want one, I'll suggest the Lucky Craft Pointer 100 in Baby Bass (green). Another is the Rapala Husky Jerk (Silver Blue) with an orange belly. A third would be Rapala X-Rap (08) in all white (Glass Ghost), (3 1/8", 1/4 oz). p.s. I left out Smithwick Rattlin' Rogues because the quality of the lure is inconsistant. You need to test, tweak and sometimes return them before you fish the lures, but they ARE fish catchin' machines when they're right!

spinning vs baitcast
The short answer is for anything less than 1/2 oz, I'll generally use spinning equipment. However, for "fast retrieve" lures I prefer baitcasting gear, so I have bought a rig to throw these lighter baits: St. Croix Avid AC70MM/ Shinano Metanium. An example would be a Norman Fat Boy shallow crank.

Chinese Recalls
Man, after the first few million toys were recalled, why can't these (American) companies figure out that "quality control" matters? Curious George dolls are the latest, just announced. Same goes for fishing equipment built in China: Inspect the freaking gear before you ship it out! It ain't that complicated! :-X

Finesse Fishing, Why spinning gear?
GLX PR844S saddled up with a Shimano Stella 2500FB! :

spinning vs baitcast
For me it's like this: Spinning tackle = finesse Baitcasting gear = power fishing

weightless plastics rod
Good for you. You have put in the time to research what you need. I was just making a suggestion on a well priced rod. Good luck!

Finesse Fishing, Why spinning gear?
+1 8-)

rod,reel,bait
Well, if you are just getting started, buy yourself a 6 1/2' Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rod & reel combination. If you have a pricing point in mind, we can be more specific, but to start with, "anything will do." Once you have been fishing for awhile, the comparisons and suggestions will start to make more sense. Fishing can be "rocket science" if you want to make it that complicated, but it doesn't have to be that way. Here is a thread to start with: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1182371999 Here's another: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180501296

Current favorite lure
Mattlures new swimbait! Well, I haven't actually fished it yet, but it has that potential. Overall this year: The Mircro Munch Tackle 1/2 oz jig, Mattlures Baby Bass, GYCB Kreature and Cavitron Buzzbait.

Starting Over
+1 That's whay I would do. I would start out with the best (1) rod & reel and add to the collection over time.

Swimbait help...
Start off with the Mattlures Baby Bass. It's only 1.3 oz, but it will seem HUGE! It doesn't require special equipment, you can fish it with a Heavy Power bass rod. The cost is about $34 (shipped) for the 3-pack special. The baits are rigged and ready to go. I have had good luck with this lure. 8-)

Looking For A Baitcaster For Around $100?
Hmm...It's still there. Maybe a net price that includes shipping gets it done? I don't know, I'm surprised it didn't sell yesterday.

St. Croix Triumphs ... Any Good?
The rod has had VERY poor reviews on this and several other Forums. My partner bought four for his guide work. YES, I have fished them and they SUCK! More importantly, after just a few outings with my buddy's clients, they ALL fell apart. This was THE WORST made rod I have EVER fished with...Did I mention E-V-E-R? NOTHING about this line of rods should be associated with the St. Croix brand name. Oh! and BTW, I AM a St. Croix snob, I own 4. I am embarassed that the company would allow ANYONE to fish with the EXCEPTIONALLY poor quality that the Triumph represents (as you suggested, pure CRAP!). If that were my first St. Croix, it would be my last.

Favorite bass rod
Well Avid, I have an ES70MF that I like a lot, too. But my favorite is a G.Loomis GLX PR844S. Matching it with a Stella 2500FB helps!

How 'Bout Them Cowgirls
Oops! Jennifer just stole the show with "Why Don't You Stay". King George, Album Of The Year. Don't tell me, "The new stuff I don't care for that much." It don't get any better than that! 20 years from now "Wrapped" will still be a Classic. We just get to remember when it was brand new!
