Too cool! Congratulations, my friend. 8-)
  2. Well, I recently bought a new soft tackle box that carries 3600 (not 3700) Plano boxes. I can do 95% of my fishing with a handful of lures, but I choose to TRY to use more! I think "versatility" is BS for most recreational fishermen. All I (we) want to do is catch a few really BIG bass! Muddy, Fish one or two hard baits ONLY during low light. If you want to stick with the jig, use it EXCLUSIVELY during the day. That is the only way to become comfortable with this presentation. I'm on my second year trying to become proficient with jigs and it's starting to work. For me, jigs are a VERTICAL presentation; for casting, I'm all soft plastics.
  3. Welcome aboard! I force myself to fish a variety of lures, but usuallly just one at a time. If I'm pond jumping, I only take one lure and it's already rigged! I fish nearly every class of lure in low light and will sometimes fish a crankbait, spinnerbait or a jig in the "right" spot or in certain situations at any time of day. However, if I'm fishing artificials, I probably fish soft plastics 80% of the time.
  4. Well, if money is not the overriding issue, add the Calais to your list for consideration. Oh! It's not that easy...There are several models to choose from. For a high performance "all around" reel, I recommend the CL200ASV (6.2:1), but you may prefer the smaller frame of the CL100A (5.8:1). Both are priced at $389.99. http://www.***.com/descpageRLCSHIMANO-SHCA.html
  5. Personally, I'm not a fan of snaps and I never use them. BUT...Anything Bud recommends is always on spot. So, if you want to give them a try, buy the #2 Durlock Snap. If it's good enough for Bud, it's the right one for you, too.
  6. Hey, brothers... Welcome aboard!
  7. Jerkbaits fished around points in low light and at night.
  8. This ain't Burger King, and they can't have it their way. I never use pink or any bright colored soft plastic for that matter. The only color I fish other than "dark" is white.
  9. That is a BEAUTIFUL smallmouth! You can never really tell the weight of a fish based on a picture, but to get to 6lbs it would need to be around 23" in length. My guess on your fish is slightly under 5 lbs. If it was particularly thick, which I can't tell from the picture, it could be a little north of that, but 5 1/2 would be a stretch.

Welcome aboard! I'll second GMAN: Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo tubes Another brand I like is Mizmo. For smallmouth I fish their 3 1/2" Kent's Classic (squash green). For largemouth I recommend the 5.5" Grandes, especially black red neon.
  11. Technically, I fish Kentucky Lake, too. Below Pickwick Dam it's more river than lake so we generally refer to this stretch as just the Tennessee River. Anyhow, my recommendation is simple: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft, #6 for spinning tackle, #12 for baitcasters.
  12. Welcome aboard! Start here: http://bassresource.com/beginner/beginner.html Don't sweat it, you're catching a few now. More and bigger bass will come with time on the water.
  13. Yep, I'm with justfishin. I generally fish what would be considered "open water." I prefer small diameter, stealthy line. However, you have to make "tool adjustments" when conditions call for a change. Heavy cover = heavy gear, there is no way to get around that.
  14. I prefer fishing with a partner. If I "fall out" someone else can call for a Hearse. :
  15. Nothing against Austin and I'm not from Nashville, but... If you like four seasons and a mild winter, Nashville fits the bill. Multi-species fishing opportunities abound in the Nashville area. Vibrant economy and the Home of Country Music. And, most importantly, you would be pretty close to your mom!

Man, that smallie is beautiful! If you want to specifically target the hybrids, you might have some luck with jerkbaits, too. When they are popping shad on topwater, those lures are always big producers.
  17. We don't mind if guys keep a smallmouth on the Tennessee River, as long as it's just over 11 lb 15 oz.

  19. RoLo, Maybe you could comment on this hook or more specificaly: Is the information "important" or simply used to bambozzel the averaged guy? http://www.xpointhooks.com/
  20. I don't think there is a problem with the formatting as long as we have some punctuation and paragraphs.
  21. What was the question? Aaaaaaaaaaaaa, well, uh.... Nah, those jeans don't make her look fat. :
  22. That's a fine fish and a great pic!
  23. I have never felt attractants are of much value. However, Megastrike has a vasoline like consistancy that might be of some advantage it terms of "feel" plus, Mattlures recommends using this type of attractant so the bass cannot hold and release his swimbaits. Apparantly, this results in better hook-ups. I don't think the "scent" makes a difference.
  24. The only difference on a river (verses a lake) is that you can also drift a C-rig with the current.
  25. Wow! 27" is a mighty fine walley.
