  1. To get there take Johnson Road one block north of Wolf River, immediately across from the soccer field behind Houston Middle School. Turn left. Follow the road approximately 4 blocks and make a left where you will see the parking lot. The pond is about 100 yards down the entrance path. -Kent

  5. Well. the bass are actually much easier to catch right now, but the trick is finding them. Bass are concentrated on deep structure on the Tennessee River. Ledge fishing rules in July and August. We have tons of information in the BassResource Library. Search through "Fishing Articles" for strategy and tips. Here is one from Mike Iaconelli: https://www.bassresource.com/fishing/deep_water_structure.html
  6. These are smaller swimbaits that are very effective: Shadalicious, Berkly Hollow Belly and Keitech Swing Impact Fat

  8. Nice fish, great pic!
  9. I own both Pinnacle and St. Croix. Both of the rods you are considering would be a fine piece of equipment! I know Jeff has been VERY impressed with his Pinnacle DCH5. That's the rod I would choose.

  14. For enthusiasts, technique specific gear is fun to collect. However, three rigs cover all the basics: #1 6 1/2' or 7' MH baitcaster for jigs, some soft plastics and spinnerbaits #2 6 1/2' or 7' MM baitcaster for treble hook lures #3 7' MF spinning rod for lighter lures and a variety of techniques
  15. For "moving" lures the retrieve is much smoother. I use light line on spinning tackle, heavier line (thicker diameter) on baitcasting gear.

  17. WOW! Great reply. That's a very technical aspect that I would have never considered. Thank you!
  18. I really can't imagine what is going on for you. I have never had the issue and don't do anything special or different. This is my only thought: Maybe the Swing Impact Fat is simply too big forthe hook, I use the trailer some with a 3/8 jig without issues. Are you rigging 1/4 oz? Try using a Menace and see if size matters.
  19. No. Bass are relatively safe to handle.
  20. I measure my drag with weights occasionally just for fun. If you do this you will develop a very good "feel" for your drag setting. Other than braid, the drag should be set at 25% - 30% of the breaking strength of the line as long as that is within the parameters of the rod. On a practical basis, mine is 2-3 lbs. and never exceeds 4. If you fish for trophy smallmouth on spinning tackle and light line, you will learn quite quickly why the drag is so important. The real fight begins when that big brown girl gets her first glimpse of the boat...and she's gone! The fat fish in my avatar took 50 yards, not feet, of line to the middle of the Tennessee River against drag on her first run.
