  1. Well, most of the guys I know in the Mid South keep all the legal spots they catch. Personally, I would like all limits for this species to be eliminated in an attempt to eradicate the pests. In many lakes and some river systems, Kentucky bass have replaced populations of both smallmouth and largemouth bass.
  2. The "goo" was probably caused by introducing a bait made of Elaztech. When this plastic comes in contact with other plastics, they dissolve. Elaztech should never be mixed with other baits. I don't fish them at all. My answer to your question is to keep the plastics you are going to use in a Plano type box. Reserves are kept in original packaging.
  3. Well, everyone I know that has fished the Cavitron will never fish another buzzbait! However, Rage Tail has two very competative soft plastics: Rage Shad and the new Menace. For me the decision is based on the cover. I will usually fish the Cavitron along weed beds or over them if they are below the surface. If "the junk" is really gnarly or slimey, the soft plastics are a better option.
  4. Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle supertuned mine: cleaning, lube, ceramic bearings and carbontex brake pads.
  5. I broke an original LES70MF in transport to this years BR Roadtrip. (100% my faultm but I'll blame Long Mike!) Anyhow, sent it to St.Croix for replacement: $75 = $10 for shipping = $85 for a brand spanking new, 2013 LES70MF http://www.stcroixrods.com/product/freshwater-legend-elite This might be the finest spinning rod I have EVER owned! I use it almost exclusively for weightless soft plastics. If this rod is available on sale in your price range, I STRONGLY recommend picking it up!
  6. My favorite combination is the GLX MBR842C/ Core 50MG. The next step up might be the NRX852C, but I have yet to fish the NRX line-up.
  7. It's Showtime! Looks like a pod of whales singing the National Anthem.
  8. 3/8 oz is common, but I prefer 1/2 oz and larger. No 1/4 oz for me.
  9. Geez...It's September... http://www.bassresou...g_articles.html
  10. Measure your drag with a scale or a known weight. If you use a weight, let's try a 3 lb dumbell in a plastic grocery bag. Tie the bag to your line and SLOWLY lift it off the ground. That's about as much as you will want, depending on the rod. Adjust the drag so that it just begins to release as you lift the bag off the floor.
  11. A quick Google came up with several choices, here's one: Longfin.com 1lb spool #15 Mist Green $24.99
  12. The line doesn't sink, it floats from surface tension. That means it is not buoyant, it does not float up if it is submerged, but "floats" when it is on the surface of the water. As a practical matter, there is absolutely no impact on any class of lure, topwater or not.
  13. The new Rage Tail Menance rigged naked with the tail horizontal or verticle as a swim jig trailer has been working great around here, but that's been for largemouth bass. I have never fished for peacock, but it seems to me that the BIG attraction is large topwater lures with lot's of action, worked fast! Post your question in "Other Species" for more and better responses.

  15. Well, I'm not sure I know the difference between "soaking in" and bonding, but you will find a very noticable difference in the line after using the line conditioner.
  16. Beautiful fish! Two bait suggestions: Rage Baby Craw, naked, 2/0 Offset Worm Hook, 1/8 oz bullet weight unpegged. Rage Craw, Rage Rigged, T-rigged and/or JIKA rigged.
  17. The issue with small diameter lines is that it digs into the spool on baitcasters. This is not an issue with spinning line. The key is manageability, not strength.
  18. I always prefer wire tie.
  19. Man, smallmouth in a Missouri pond doesn't sound very promising to me.
  20. Lot's of species jump or feed on the top here in the Mid South. Isolated fish might be largemouth or smallmouth bass, but most are white bass, stripers or bait fish, skipjack in particular.
  21. Everyone at Guntersville picked up a few Snag Proof Frogs. That was a nice gift from the company. Do any of you have a story to tell? http://www.snagproof.com/home/store/new
  22. Placed a Big O order with tw yesterday, but they did not have either color in the Craw or Lobster. I'm especially excited about the Green Pumpkin/Purple/Gold/Black. Maybe our local BPS will have them soon.
