Geez... Soft plastics look like a potential meal to fish. Could be the profile, action, fall rate, size or color. I'm sure there are many other factors, but your "confidence" should be based on effectiveness. Soft plastics in general are very big producers, some are MUCH better than others. I prefer Rage Tail.

Man what a year for a football fan. I couldn't believe Denver pushed Tebow out the door and I have NEVER liked Payton Manning. After today's performance, I'm back on the Bronco Bandwagon and a Manning fan. Worse is college football. Two years ago Big O and a couple of soldiers caught 144 smallmouth during an incredible storm. Everyone ended up catching a lot of fish that week. I had a 78 bass day, by far my best ever! In addition to numbers, the month of May produces lunkers. Of special note: With the introduction of The Rig, more double digit bass were caught between October and late may than in the entire history of Pickwick Lake! There are plenty of trophy bass, both largemouth and smallmouth. You and Hubby might get lucky and catch one for yourselves!

Yesterday morning I zeroed, so today I put on my Big Boy Pants and pushed through the jungle to the southwest corner. I fished a 1/2 oz black & blue jig/ black with blue flecks Rage Craw. My first fish came off the branch in the shallow water. The next was "the fish of the day!" Two more 3-4 off the west bank. If you try this wear rubber boots and be beware of a wasp nest built on a tall weed right next to the bank. One of those little buggers got me, but fortunately they did not swarm. I fished for three hours, but my only bites were in that one spot. However, there was a nice fish caught in front of the first culvert before I arrived yesterday morning.

For another $75-$85 you can probably fins a gently used Shimano Symetre reel to go with you new rod. Occasionally this or similar combos pop up in our Flea Market. The combination I have suggested should run $150-$175 if sold as a package.

No. Unless the lead is ingested it will not harm you. Perhaps washing your hands before you eat a sandwich is a precaution, but all the "other reasons" for washing your hands are far more important..
