Favorite shakey head?
The last few years I've been using "The Closer" by Custom Cast Lures. I don't think I've had a single fish spit the hook as long as I get it set in them. Great hooks and a good action.

If you like Duckett rods for the next couple of days if you order any one of their Terex rods thru their site for $100 they are including a free 7'3" MH with it. So $30 off normal retail and a free rod. Not too bad of a deal.

New PB Smallie
Caught my new PB Smallie a few weeks ago from my kayak. 22" 5.5lbs. Crushed my previous PB of 16". Yes I used a scale and didnt guess the weight and the fish was released to be caught again. I caught her on a white chatterbait with a small white swimbait trailer. I was sitting up shallow casting into a deep point and slow rolling the chatterbait up the point. I guesstimate she was sitting in 25 feet of water. https://i.imgur.com/GkLrnPL.jpg https://i.imgur.com/H2Tvmqj.jpg She also bent the hell out of my hook. https://i.imgur.com/TPeH7UU.jpg

I've got quite the collection also. Not to mention the closet full of their "free" t-shirts. Make me sad every time I see them in my closet and relize that they are the most expensive t-shirts I own. haha.

Yakers what kayak do you run?
Im paddling a Wilderness Systems ATAK 140 that I purchased in Jan, 16. Pros: Extremely stable, I'm 5'11" 300lbs and can stand and fish easily. Fast, the atak 140 is one of the fastest stable big kayaks I've paddled. On flat water I cruise at 3.5mph without paddling hard and with a little more effort can cruise at over 4mph. Wind, it sits low in the water and has a very low profile hull that cuts through the wind and waves with ease. Most of the other big kayaks catch wind like crazy and are turds to paddle in the wind. Seat, the hi/low adjustable seat is extremely comfortable. I've been in it from sunrise to sunset many times without it getting uncomfortable at all. Capacity, with a 550lb capacity I can easily fit my big butt and all my gear in it without fear of overloading. Shallow draft. This kayak sits high in the water. I can go so many places those peddlers cant go. If I have a few inchs of water over an log or shallow spot I can typically make it over it without problems. Cons: Weight, It weights 95lbs empty and mine is well over 100lbs rigged so its sometimes a pain in the back moving it around. At 14' long its a bear in skinny water and tight areas but doable.

$1000 Kayak
For $1000 look into the Nucanoe flint, Perception Pescador pro 12, or the Vibe sea ghost 13. All three of those have comfortable seats and good layouts for fishing. The Vibe comes with a rudder and a paddle. The others don't so you'll have to factor that into the cost. While the tarpon is a great yak the newer seats make a world of differance for comfort.

Wind canceled kayak trip
Anything over about 10mph depending on the body of water and I start searching for protected waters or call it a bank fishing day. I've been caught out when some fronts have blown thru and had to paddle thru them to get back to the launch, No fun at all.

Fishing Kayak?
Like the first reply said get one with a comfortable seat. Find a local kayak shop and try to demo as many types as possible. Every kayak has pros and cons. Kayak dealers often take trade-ins so hit them up about their used inventory some good deals to be had out there. Don't settle for one just because of price, if the cons outweigh the pros of that yak then you won't use it much.

Do rod floats work well enough?
I carry 8 setups on my yak and if its not im my hand its leashed or in a secure rod holder.

MegaStrike Shakey Heads

Long time lurking kayak fisherman
What's up bass resource fishing fools. Been browsing these forums for years reading all your good and not so good advice and figured I might as well create an account to join in the shenanigans. My name is Brian and I compose half of the MinnowzNuttin kayak fishing team with my buddy Todd. Todd has been kayak fishing for nearly 30 years and lured me into the sport 3 years ago. I was raised as avid outdoorsman by my father and found kayak fishing to be the best way for me to spend time on the water. The last 3 years we've been hunting down the biggest bass in small lakes across Arkansas and Oklahoma and succeeding. The last 2 years we've been tournament fishing and Todd will be fishing the KBF national championship in a few weeks. Our number 1 goal on the water is to have fun and dissecting a new body of water and finding the biggest fish in it fuels our fire. We also enjoy getting new people onto the water in kayaks and catching fish out of them. We've learned alot over the years reading these forums and hope to spread the knowledge we've learned about kayak bass fishing to anyone we can. I paddle a Wilderness Systems ATAK 140 with an Aqua-Bound manta ray carbon paddle and Todd is currently paddling the ATAK 120 with the same paddle. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll answer them to the best of my abilities.
