  1. I don't know what works in your neck of the woods but almost my entire spinnerbait arsenal is made up of chartreuse, white, and chartreuse/white. For night fishing I use black/red or black/blue with a much larger blade. I'm not saying it can't happen but I have not yet been outfished with my basic colors by anyone using any of what I consider the "other" colors.
  2. Personally, I have never had a problem with the hooks on the Bombers. I tried changing a few out and it did not help my ratio of bites:catch. Maybe I am just a novice but it seems to me that it is the nature of the beast to lose some fish on crankbaits. As far as the Strike Kings go, the only problem I have had with those is the crappy red hooks. They sure are pretty....for a minute. I just make sure I keep my hooks sharp and that seems to solve most of the problem regardless of what kind of hooks they are.
  3. I Texas rig them on a 1/0 worm hook. I also use the same rig for Fat Albert twin tail grubs and it is deadly.
  4. I guess everyone noticed that you can get up to 4 "free" pairs of glasses and they will throw in a watch if you buy that many. Makes me wonder why they are giving away a gift for you to take all that "free" stuff that will cost you $100 in shipping charges and then you have to pay more shipping on the watch. $100 seems like a lot to pay for something that is "free".
  5. My rule of thumb is...Anything that feels different is a bite. I fished by feeling for the bite for a long time. Then I learned to watch my line and I consistently catch more fish. It also helps me to cup the reel in the palm of my hand and pinch the line with my thumb and forefinger in front of the reel. I feel like I am more in touch with the bait this way.
  6. watermelon candy Zoom finesse worm, Texas rigged on a 1/0 hook with 1/8 oz. weight with the tip of the tail dipped in Spike-it. Beat the bank and I'm guaranteed a bite even under the worst conditions.
  7. Try the Browning Midas combo on sale at BPS for $89.00. I would rate it as a middle of the road quality rod but the reel is very nice. Just my opinion but I know that I didn't want to spend too much on a baitcaster until I knew that I could learn how to use one and that I would enjoy using it.
  8. Okay. Mine looks like Jigman's photo but I want it to look like fooman's photo. Now I know what I need. That was a simple solution. Thanks for the input and a special thanks goes out to fooman who saved the world with a simple piece of office furniture. I will be buying one this weekend.
  9. Okay guys, here is the challenge.....I use XPS 370 boxes to store the majority of my tackle. They work well enough and they fit in the deck box of my boat. However, I would like to have a rack that will fit the deck box and hold these storage boxes. Ideally, I would like to have 2 racks so I can distribute them evenly between the 2 deck boxes. The rack or racks would have to be able to hold either 12 if it is a single rack or 6 if it is possible to get smaller racks. Any ideas? I know some boats have built in racks but mine doesn't.
  10. I have a pretty big head too. It is very hard for me to find a pair that not only are comfortable but also look good. I fell in love with Bolle glasses available at Academy and if I am not mistaken they are made by Remington. Check out www.bolle.com. I wear the Parole style with an amber lense and they are awesome. I think they cost me somewhere in the neighborhood of $90 and they came with 2 sets of lenses. The only problem I have had is that the rubber piece that goes over the top of your ear wore out on mine after about 2 years. I called Bolle and they sent me new ear pieces for $5 per pair. Very helpful people even 2 years after I bought the glasses.
  11. I'll be giving them a try.
  12. Wife gets mad everytime I grab her by the lip in the middle of the night. She's just glad I practice catch and release.
  13. I'll have to go with Faded Glory. I did just buy a pair of the flannel lined Redheads from BPS though and they are awful warm. Gonna be tough to get me out of them in the colder months.
  14. I tend to agree that the positive nature of this forum is a pleasant change from most others. I just didn't think that the intent of the original post was to start a rumor but merely to ask if something that he had heard was the truth. I admire Mid-South for seeking the truth before starting a rumor. I also may or may not agree with some of the things said on here but I will fight to the death for your right to say them.
  15. Forgive me if I am speaking out of turn, but I don't believe anyone bashed Bill Dance. It was a question not a statement. Maybe he had heard that this was the case. If so, I believe that it is good that the question was asked if anyone knew the facts before MidSouth Angler ran around spouting untruths. I would doubt that Mr. Dance was ever caught cheating just based on what I know about his character but if the statement is out there about someone who is in the public eye such as Bill Dance it is fair to ask if anyone has heard the same thing and if so for some proof. I also believe that most of us on here interpret it as what it is and will not just read the post and decide that an icon is a cheater.
  16. You want I should ask him? Not set in stone yet but I may get to share a boat with him later this month. I went to high school with a buddy who lives outside Memphis and knows him pretty well and we have a trip scheduled for the Monday after Easter. I think that would make a pretty good ice breaker....So Bill, tell me, ever been caught cheating? ;D
  17. I too am fairly new to baitcasters but I love them. It truly does change the way you fish. My biggest problem was that I had to leave all the other rods at home until I got comfortable with mine or I would put it down and go back to my old ways. Now I leave the rest at home because I choose to.
  18. Culprit is the ticket for me. I rarely fish anything larger than a 10" worm and to be perfectly hones usually no larger than 7.5" but when I do I fish a Tequila Shad Culprit. I also like the Fire and Ice color.
  19. Crocs when it is warm and New Balance tennis shoes any other time. I have to admit though that the tennis shoes are a superstition and I carry them in the boat even when I wear the crocs. I have been known to put them on when the bite is tough.
  20. I think we should schedule an intervention. My lake or yours?
  21. Not a problem GitRDone...You let me know when you are ready.
  22. I don't know if overall it hurts the population or not but I do know that it doesn't hurt it when I go. CATCH AND RELEASE!!! These are spawning fish and I would not even consider keeping one. I'm sure some people keep a few but who really wants to eat a 40 pound mud cat?
