  1. i got a fly rod, but I’m bringing a telescopic casting rod, just in case the fly fishing doesn’t work out. I have never fly fished. I still have to get out and practice. Not sure if it’s worth it to fly fish. A lot of people are using spinners.
  2. I also hope that barbs are permitted. I don’t really want to pinch them all down. How did you do?
  3. Luck matters. You will almost always see the biggest fish caught by people with the most skill and experience and people with little or no skill and experience. I like to think the people who have no clue aren’t restricted by what theyre supposed to do, so they catch “lucky” big fish. The people in the mid level almost never get that lucky fish. But luck is a huge factor. I am very lucky. If this was a video game and I was a character, my character’s luck would be very high. I get better cards when I play, I get more wins on slot machines, I find money on the ground when I get out of my car in the parking lot, I win more scratch off lotto tickets. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing, I just consistently get more luck than other people. Yes. I am positive that luck is a big factor.
  4. Back in the day, I used battery operated drills. They were nice. They were expensive. At some point, I realized that my arm hurt, there was no torque and the battery died. Today, I use a plug in electric drill. I rarely drill anything outside. There’s no problem with a cord. The torque is at least 10x more powerful. The battery never dies. I’m not leaning my whole body into it to get a screw in the wall. And it cost 10x less. Having the right tool for the job is more important than how fancy it is or what special technology it has. The cheap electric drill is a much better tool. I know that in most cases it’s the same with fishing gear.
  5. Good call. She chose Yellowstone. So trout fishing in Montana. I wanted to go to Texas or Florida. Basically, she was like “we’re never going to Texas.”
  6. Where I fish, they dropped the water way down. That removes a bunch of key spots and causes an algae bloom that removes almost everything left ?
  7. This is very similar to @Sam ‘s recipe. I only eat scrambled eggs if they have some milk mixed in, they are scrambled in a no stick pan, poured into about a tablespoon of melted butter, carefully stirred until almost cooked, with American or cheddar cheese mixed in just before they are cooked, so it’s not possible to tell if they aren’t cooked all the way or the cheese just melted. Spread evenly thick, on country white bread, lightly toasted, with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Sliced diagonally. I might also add bacon. But the bacon has to be cooked crispy, cooled off, then broken up into bits (that are bigger than bacon bits) and sprinkled on top of the eggs. Yes, I have a certain way of doing certain things.
  8. You know, I was about to post a picture, because my box is right here, but it looks like they are just black. I thought they turned that color after coming out of the box silver. I have no complaints about the hooks, they are extremely sharp.
  9. Still working for me at dinkfest.
  10. like a 300’ rubber band. This is only recommended deadsticking chunks, bait and wait using a bait runner. There are no perfect specs for that. 50 yards is easy, 100? You need a lot of practice, awareness of your body mechanics and more weight than is usually appropriate for bass fishing. Plus good weather and luck. I cast far with small rods, but I’ve been doing it, literally, since I was 2. And I had an abnormal focus when it comes to fishing at that age. Over the years, I remember my brother and sister crying they wanted to go home somewhere in the background hundreds of times. Not me. I don’t see hitting 300 feet happening with less than 2 ounces on a 7’ - 9’ bait casting setup. 3oz, is better. With an aerodynamic sinker. And a rod that loads properly to your arm. Lures won’t make it. Most casts won’t make it. Treble hooks will kill it. The wind will prevent it, unless it’s at your back, and even then, if you are trying for distance, the wind coming from behind, when it’s fast, will still put a drag on your weight and slow it down from behind. You do not need a 9’ or longer surf rod, but they do make it easier. You need the right rod, reel and line. What you really need is everything no one will ever be able to tell you. Just knowing by yourself. And trial and error. I never saw a lure travel 300 feet.
  11. They lowered the water in my favorite lake about 2-2 1/2 feet. Not cool. Now the fish will be further away. I saw a few big fish, but they were very transient and always popped up as I was packing up to move to a different spot, thereby causing me to not move on to the next spot. Also tried to bait the legendary carp, which has to be 35-45 lbs. Did not see him. But I did see another about 10-12 pounder looking for my home made legendary carp bait 5 minutes after i reeled up the rod to move. The fish continue to shrink in the heat.
  12. I ordered 2 of these for the kids to use on vacation. The 6’ Medium. All I’m going to say is if you need a real travel rod that’s a MH Fast, with give in the tip. This is it. These are real rods that you can put in a carry on. They are heavier than the advertised specs. You cannot possibly go wrong with these rods. They will be great for bass and all around use, when you need something small.
  13. In my limited jerkbsit use, I like LC better. They suspend better. They have better hooks and rings. They can be fished at different depths. And the fish bite them more.
  14. I’m no jerk bait expert, but I haven’t seen much interest in the MB 110. The LC has gotten me way more fish. It also has better hooks and split rings. The MB rings rust after one outing.
  15. I try, but once I get a big fish on that’s all out the window. The rod is thrown off to the side and onto the ground. The more I catch, the worse it is.
  16. I tried for Florida this summer, my wife said no. Because I picked where we went last time.
  17. My wife picked where we were going for vacation. Which really put the bait monkey on me, since she never picks anywhere with bass or saltwater that I’d be prepared for. I couldn’t have the kids learning to fly fish on location, so this is for them to use (except the fly rod). These KastKing rods are the real deal. These are legit fishing rods that also happen to be telescopic. The are more MH than M and faster than the “mod fast” as advertised. If you need an all around MH Fast travel rod, with a little give in the tip. This is it. I bet theres quite a few people out there who’d know where abouts we’re going just from the looks of this baitmonkey project.
  18. ...so that’s what the elusive rear delt looks like.
  19. Fluorocarbon: Extremely underrated.
  20. Youre lucky, because more often than not tons of easy to eat food is the cause of hard to catch fish.
  21. I like it but I don’t think I could fish that reel. It would get horribly disfigured after a few years.
  22. @BlackwaterBass are you sure it’s limited of fishing pressure and not starvation and competition that makes them aggressive?
  23. They been telling me that my whole life. At this point, I don’t have any friends, so it’s all good. I really don’t know anyone that I ever fished with more than 4 or 5 times, aside from my father and the people I stayed with every summer as a kid and also my wife when we were teenagers. I don’t think I fished more than 4 or 5 times with my brother after we were about 13 or 14 years old. If I think about it, aside from my father, I have fished more times with my father in law, who isn’t even into fishing, than anyone else I ever knew (probably 12-15 times).
  24. No one. Anyone I ever knew that fishes is out there less than 10x a year. I really never knew anyone that fishes more than a couple times a year.
