  1. Always dip all my baits/skirts in JJ's Magic. First time I was drop shotting from shore. I had a Zoom 4" lizard with the tail dipped in JJ's. 4 fish in 4 casts. Lost the lizard and pulled a new one out of the bag. No JJ's, no bites. Now this could have been a timing thing or it could have been a scent/ taste thing. I guess we will never know.
  2. This is not totally true. Toyota has been on ferrari's tail (along with Nissan and Mazda) in almost every aspect of motor racing. Ex. Le Mans. Toyota also makes some pretty serious production cars- Lexus LFA is a 300,000$ super car. Japanese Supras are no joke either. Pretty sure they made some 11 or 12 second production cars. Those are close to Ferrari times. Sorry, that was off topic. On topic. Hobie's, I think maybe a little over priced. They are nice though. Do I dream about owning one... No. A Ferrari on the other hand?
  3. This might help From left to right Zoom super fluke 5.25, Yum 4.5 pulse, Yum 3.5 pulse, Keitech 3.8. IMO the Yum 4.5 is thick, I know its ribbed, but its still fat. A 5/0 hook I think. The 3.5 size is a nice drop shot bait. They both have a very shallow slot on top.
  4. Hey Gazz, check out https://www.genesismaps.com/. Lake Shirley is on there.
  5. Man I dislike George Costanza references. Nice to meet you A-Jay I'm Mark Costanza, no relation to George, thankfully.
  6. I don't know how to powder coat, but I've heard it is a job you want to do in bulk. I like your idea though. What about an enamel? Like Testors model paints or finger nail polish clear coat. Would these work? Which would work better? This year one of my Z Man ned heads is significantly pitted with corrosion. I had a big TRD on it from about May-September, I know a long time. I had a TRD craw on another Z Man ned head for perhaps longer still looks brand new. That big TRD must have been loaded with salt. This is what I need to start doing.
  7. That is exactly why I just logged on. Just realized you need an end to tie that knot. Rusty, haven't tied that in a while.
  8. Uni to Uni for me also. Someone posted the lefty kreh knot a couple week/months ago. That was the easiest line to line knot I ever tied. Used it all the time when I used tie leaders. Another option.
  9. Thank you. That is what Carl said at Get Bit but he forgot to ship my rod dryer 3 times. Not sure if he is a source of reliable info. My guess it was some form of cut and paste from the Phenix site. This is not individual descriptions of rods. This is the description given at the header of each model name. Not important, because I think I will just go with the Rainshadow Revelation REVC68H-SB. 3/8- 1 1/4 oz. is right where I want to be and 6'8" should be short enough. As far as a short handle goes, I thought about it and I think I want the leverage of a more traditional sized handle.
  10. So I just spent much of today reading old forum posts, trying to get some info on Phenix blanks. I gathered that they are a quality product with some interesting options. Slightly under powered (note line and lure rating) and maybe slightly over priced (this seemed debatable). My question is on the Get Bit website when you read the description on Phenix blanks the description says it comes with guides, tip top, handle and reel seat. I know Phenix actually builds completed rods. Question- When you order a Phenix blank from Get Bit do you get just a blank or do you get the rest of the components?
  11. FYI Just saw this on a you tube ad. had to watch. Ever been to the dentist and he stuck that light in your mouth? Well one day a dentist broke his glasses. That light is a UV light and the stuff he puts in your mouth is a liquid plastic and can only harden via UV light. Well this guy fixed his glasses ( hardens in 4 seconds) with the dental instrument and realized the multitude of applications. This would probably fix your reel. amazon.com/Bondic-Activated-Waterproof-Resistant-Anything/dp/B00QU5M4MG
  12. So true. They get friendlier also. Funny how all that works.
  13. What I built- Rainshadow RX-6 Sb822.5. 6'10" med x-fast. 6-14 lb line 1/8-5/8 lure weight. Basically a finesse rod. What I want to build next- Looking at the Rainshadow Revelation REVC68H-SB. Want to build a shorter pitching/ heavy cover rod with a shorter handle. 12-25 lb line, 3/8-1 1/4 oz. Not sure though. I was planning another post. I have a couple questions for the guys on this forum. Waiting for Father's day.
  14. Thank You Glen. Your videos are really the only ones I watch now. Actually, a lot of times I just read the transcripts at work it is quieter. Don't change a thing, they are informative, no-nonsense videos that convey the message without being really long.
  15. Last weekend I finished building my first rod. I wanted to thank everyone that helped me out, Spencer, Mick, Delaware Valley. I also wanted to thank Ajay and Lyman. Ajay, I don't know if your post about the hair dryer and warming up the epoxy was for my benefit, but it was certainly timely. Between that post and Lyman responding to my "concerns" and actually reading the instructions on the flex coat, that all made me realize I was worrying about nothing. So there are no pictures. Kind of one of those things if I took a photo of the whole rod you would not see the details to do it justice. If I took some close up pictures of my guide wraps, you would see the fact that this was my first build- sloppy but functional. So, some family sadness happened last week which left me with a unexpected week off. It was in the 50's most of the week. Monday and Tuesday were beautiful. Got out on the water on the kayak and fished the new rod. Did not catch any fish with it. Hooked into something on Monday, it seemed pretty decent, pulled my kayak around. I lost though, not sure why. It is a med lt finesse rod and was fishing a shakey head w/4 1/2" roboworm. Exposed hook even, weird, anyway I also hooked into some sizable submerged branches that were a good test for a first built rod. So all in all a success. Not the prettiest girl at the ball but she can dance. Thanks again everyone and can't wait to do it again.
  16. You forgot invasive.
  17. When I first read this a month ago, I'm thinking, 80-90 degrees? Is this guy nuts? I can't get my house up 80 degrees. Then I read the instructions on the flex coat. It all makes sense now. Thanks.
  18. I have the backwater paddle. I guess I am part of the minority. I will not lie my paddle in my lap it always gets parked. I also use my backwater paddle alot. I pretty much park my paddle and sometimes troll all the way back to the boat ramp with the assault paddle. Kinda funny I have a pretty expensive paddle and it usually is just parked and I am maneuvering around with the assault paddle that costs 30 dollars.
  19. Bass Junke is my screen name. Dink is how many posts you make. The more you make the bigger you get, the pluses under members is how many likes and thanks you get. The magnetic transducer mount is pretty sweet. I bought the more powerful magnet. It actually worked through my hand. It will hold through the hull of that canoe like nothing. It was nice because it was close to me, I could just reach down and swivel it up out of the way when coming into shore or in some slop.
  20. This made a good transducer mount last year. Very strong , had no issues with it last year. https://www.fishfindermounts.com/product-page/xpower-15mm-magnetic-transducer-mount
  21. Bass Pro has them all in stock in Foxboro. Just picked up the terminal tackle box. Want to use it for on the water TT. As others stated to big for a crate. I think I am going to bungie it to the top of the crate.
  22. This knot was what I used at the beginning of last season and never failed me. Kept hearing about the San Diego jam knot and the Yucatan knot. Switched to the Yucatan knot because I heard good things. First time using the Yucatan I ended up with a squiggley end. I am a pretty good at knots. That was the first knot I think I have had fail. Well that ruined me, took the braid off the spinning reel and haven't used a leader since. Should have just stuck with the Lefty Kreh knot.
  23. Last season started noting last rain date, and last cold front.
  24. It was funny last year, I was in the middle of this small pond, pretty much the only one there when I looked toward the boat ramp I saw a police vehicle with its lights flashing. I then realized it was a SUV and it was green and a guy in uniform was waving at someone. Wait that is a game warden and he is waving for me to come in. So I paddled back to shore the whole time being proud that both my rigs had tungsten on them. Just wanted to make sure I had a licence and a PFD. No interest if I was using lead or not. There is more tackle made of lead than tungsten at BPS in Foxboro. I do the same. Regs are a little vague. I think we all should try to use as little or no lead, just better in the planet. I read the regs came about because a few loons had a fetish for lead egg sinkers also. I doubt there are any loons out there eating 1/2oz spinner baits or lead jigs with 4/0 hooks sticking out of them.
