  1. I'm going the other way. I'm adding two new combos. Going from 6 to 8 rigs. 6 casting 2 spinning. People around here think I'm crazy. They ask me, " How many rods do you need?" My response, "Well, 8 I guess." Can I retie on the water? Of course. Am I pressed for time? No. Am I fishing tournaments? No. He is a scenario everyone should relate to. You have been fishing for a few hours. As you are doing your thing, over near the reeds across the cove you are in you spy a couple of fish bust the surface . This happened to me last year. I had a buzz bait tied on, I paddled over and caught two nice fish on 3 casts. That was awesome. Now that was the only top water activity I saw all day. If I didn't have that buzz bait tied on would I have tied on a top water bait for 2 splashes? No. Which means I would not have caught those two fish. Will I be fishing 8 combos each time out? No. Like other have said better to have and not need then need and not have.
  2. He is just messing with you. Basically he is asking "Do you want to catch fish or just look good?" Back in my mountain bike and skiing days we called them posers. The guys that had to have the best skis but stayed on the bunny slopes. Had to have the most expensive mountain bike and rode it it on the street. There is a third option, looking good while catching fish.
  3. Nice dye job AJ. I use blue JJ's. Usually on white or pearl colored baits. Even chartreuse, you get a green tail then.
  4. Drilling holes in your kayak? Not really a concern, I drilled at least 30 holes in my kayak for various mods. No holes below the water line. 2 weeks ago I was on vacation and fishing almost every day. I was leaving my kayak in the yard. One night it got poured on. Kayak received a nice bath, no water in the hull. I have hosed my kayak down before and kind of hit all my light switches with water. The extra force of the hose did let some water into the hull, a few drops that's it, I bought a sponge. If you are concerned, buy a sponge, that is probably all you will need.
  5. Most of the time the eye of my hook IS buried in the nose of the bait, at least that is where it starts. Those heavier sinkers, 3/8, 1/2oz and heavier tend to push things around. I don't use a bobber stop, I like "the bait chasing the sinker" to the bottom action. I use a bobber stop on a C-rig. Just to put some sort of restriction on the distance the sinker can slide. Helps casting an already difficult rig to cast.
  6. I started using a small plastic bead on my Texas rigs this year. Purely for knot protection. I noticed when fishing a heavier sinker the knot was visibly beat up. The bead I use is small enough that it slides onto the knot and stays there.
  7. The Vibe Cubera, has a seat option you can mount. Looks like a pretty sweet fishing platform. I would most likely kick too much gear over the side. Might get expensive.
  8. We should title this post baby steps with baby bass. I went out Saturday morning and it was a true multi-species day. Ended up catching 1 average sized pickerel, a nice crappie, a tiny bluegill, and finally a very tiny bass 4". The bass I was standing and fishing a drop shot. I set the hook standing, crouched to land the fish, and stood to unhook and release. A success but like how I started this baby steps...
  9. https://www.railblaza.com/products/boating-railmount-19-25/ Railblaza makes rail mounts. Not sure if they are the right size but there are a couple of different options.
  10. Wow that is a response I didn't think I would read. One of the things I like best about fishing out of a kayak is being so close to the water. I love bringing a bass over to the left side of my kayak and landing her 6 inches off the water. Never gets old.
  11. I know there are a lot of guys that stand and fish on their kayaks, I do. What does everyone do when they catch a fish while standing? Who can land a fish while still standing? I have caught a few fish while standing and managed to transition to a seated position without loosing the fish. My concern is when I have larger bass on the line, if that fish gets some leverage while I am sitting down, it doesn't take much for an adult bass to spit out a hook.

  13. https://www.bassresource.com/fishing/supertune-baitcaster.html The title of this article is "how to make your bait caster fly." May not be totally appropriate to what you are asking but it was written by one of our members and he mentions specific brands of oil and grease. It is a good read and offers a lot of good advise. It is the blueprint I used to break down, clean, lube and re-assemble both my bait casters and spinning reels.
  14. Same knots here. No leader though.
  15. I don't really watch weather reports. I am my own meteorologist. I usually go on NWS or Accuweather and look at the radar myself. It is not that hard to see if rain is on the way and you will have a good idea when it will be over you.
  16. 99% of the time I am fishing out of my kayak and those trips last somewhere in the 3-5 hour range. After work trips last about 3 hours, weekends I spend 4-5 hours on the water.
  17. Mine have been vertical in my kayak crate for two years. I have 6. None have opened. The biggest issue with the edge boxes, and it is not really an issue, is the latches require some practice. They are advertised as one-handed operation and they are, just got to get the technique down. Thing I noticed is unless done right a lot of times only one latch latches, this could cause the seal to fail and I guess possibly open. If latched correctly, these don't open on their own.
  18. Beat me to it. Worrying about scratching your hull is unnecessary pain on the brain.
  19. Like all have said, they happen but are rarely an problem. Carolina rigs are the toughest Imo. I am surprised no one mentioned them. I always get a few loops when I unsuccessfully lob a cast and the bait and sinker helicopter through the air. Biggest fish I caught Monday was on a c-rig while I picked out a minor backlash.
  20. What's the wench going to do? Bring you a couple of beers while you try to get unsnagged? ?
  21. Thanks. I had some better pics but alas they were too big and I was too busy at work to resize so I posted the ones that fit.
  22. Here is what I did. Red and green on the bow and white lights on the stern. red interior lights. A removable 360 degree white light behind me.
  23. I left out temperatures, specifically water temps, because it affects a fishes metabolism. This isn't opinion or theory, this is science. I agree with your last 2 statements. I was curious to hear some of the responses, thought we might get more contradictory answers. Agree with most, none of the six conditions would keep me from fishing. Just bad weather and high winds.
  24. Which of the factors, conditions, events, below do you feel have the most affect on your fishing success? Light Barometer Water Clarity Wind direction Fronts Moon Phase I guess that is the order I would put them in. I believe the barometer is the factor with regards to wind direction and fronts. As far as moon phases go, it's hard to rule them out when a couple of the best anglers on this site say they matter.
