  1. Ill go again with the st-croix. I have an Avid 7'0 2 piece that works flawlessly and I'm also very familiar with their premier or triumph lines. All great products. Nathan,
  2. I will second on the daiwa fuego and aird combo. Inexpensive and very nice. Other options could also be a shimano caenan for the price! Nathan,
  3. This year's setup St-croix legend xtreme 7'11 Heavy moderate fast Shimano antares HG 40# moss green PP Also used as a small glide bait rod. Nathan,
  4. Yes only low profile, I'm not a fan of round reels, I can not feel comfortable palming a round reel. Conquests as an example look amazing and are great reels but not great with me. Thanks! I sure have been thinking of that one! I handled the US model in store here and was extremely impressed by how small the thing is!
  5. Ive held a few and love the reel, but cant seem to be confortable with a round reel... Ive had curados in the past, great reels. But i did the stupid thing and got a few really nice reels like metaniums and antares, and now I dont enjoy my curados as much...
  6. Scbassin thanks for the reply! Reallly lost here! The 10-15fr. Is really what I will be primarly throwing so that guess is a very good one! I saw the shimano antares 12 in normal gear comes in a 5.6 so that should be a pretty good reel for the application! Always scary to see how the rod balances out tho... Thanks again! Nathan
  7. I did a post a while back about cranking rods, finally went with the IMX Pro 845c. Now looking for a reel to go with it, daiwa or shimano fanboy, kinda looking now at either a used antares, a metanium MGL, a bantam mgl or daiwa steezs. Any experience on this topic and ideas on what would balance the rod best? WRB talked in my older post about IPT on 100 sized reels, I would like to take this into consideration. what to do? Sincerly, Nathan,
  8. ended up ordering an IMX pro 845 cbr, excited to received it already. after handling the Legend glass, it felt too massive of a rod. now hesitating between getting another antares in the 5.6 or a bantam mgl. Anybody have experience with daiwa reels for cranking?
  9. Sadly again this is a case of getting the lightest reel possible when on a rod of that power and lenght, you would want something with a bit more mass. Getting a super finesse reel for a lenghty all around rod seems very odd to me. I have a 7'4 champion XP paired with an older zillion SHLA, and a SC extreme with an antares (both heavy reels) but balance is perfect. If you want a combo that you'll enjoy get something that balances the rod better than just getting a light reel.
  10. Ci4+ all day. Probably down south less important but up north (canada) daiwa has horrible customer service.
  11. Welcome aboard! shimano clarus are a very decent stick for the price point. There are not the most sensitive rods out there but are certainly as good as any rod in that range. I would consider a 7 footer rather than a 6'6 as you would be compromising distance for no reason. If you are going to look at fenwicks, you might want to consider the HMG as they are a tad more expensive than the HmX but with better warranty. other rods i would consider: okuma evx Dobyns colt shimano compre st-croix triumph daiwa aird x
  12. For sure the chronarch is a solid option! I just think Tom's point on 100 size reels for crank baits being too small makes sens to me. Because obviously any reel in the chronarch range is usually a pretty solid unit! Nat
  13. That's a "reel" good point Tom! But I am not a huge fan on the tatulas as I've had one (maybe got unlucky) and it kept giving me trouble. Other options could include a tranx 200, but I sure don't feel like spending calcutta or antares money on a crank setup.
  14. If you can get a decent deal on one, dont buy it, it might ruin the experience with the other reels I have had the chance to fish with many brands enough (the standard big names on the market) to know that the stradic stands out. Nat
  15. Jeezus!!! You know you are NOT supposed to step on your reels! I own 3 stradics and never had any issues whatsoever! Nat
  16. for sure an amazing reel but I can't seem to find round reels all that confortable :( was looking at the new bantams or another metanium. Any other suggestions will be evaluated :P
  17. Wow wow wow! Sure is sexy with that gold calcutta! I will also be running braid on the combo as I am a big fan of it. Really looking in either the legend glass 7'4" or the loomis 845c both seem to be exceptionnal sticks! Now i just have to find a reel to go with ... ?
  18. Thanks for the very complete answer Tom! I would really be in the market for #2! The description is everything i am looking for. I am slightly surprised it is a 5 power rod tho! Nat Definitly will be looking into thus one as tom also uses it. Sounds like a really solid stick!
  19. Around the 200 cad, taxes in. I know where one is sitting and the store is trying to get rid of ... ?
  20. Both of you seem to really like that rod... I can get a pretty amazing deal on one of those, hows the sensitivity? What would be the difference between this particular model of imx vs an e6x, glx or etc of the same action and lentgh?
  21. Well then its a bit of a shot in the dark, I loved mine but I know they arent all perfect! Good luck
  22. I have had two TCS's in the past, bang for your buck great rods, light amd powerful. I had a 7'0mhf great all around stick, and a flipping 7'6hf. Both great rods for the price but i know sometimes quality control might be a bit off. So i would NOT order one sight unseen! Handle the rod before buying, mine works well but has weird rattles inside...
  23. Do you feel like your keeping fish pinned better or are bites more clear because the rod is more sensitive? Just compared to glass or a hybrid? Keep me posted! Curious to see how you like it! Thanks!
