  1. I hope I never kayak on a lake you are operating a boat on!
  2. They make poor copies of other brand hooks.
  3. Disagree about the bug. I acquired the fishing bug just a year ago and I'm 51. I'm pretty serious about it and getting moreso all the time. Last summer I was bank fishing and a couple showed up with their two little girls. One approached me and I asked her if she fished (she was probably 8-10 years old). She said, "No! I hate fish!" Not sure what she meant. A moment later I got a bite and you should have seen the expressions on her and her sisters faces as I hauled it in. They were both very excited. I let them check out the striper I'd caught, then released it. I saw a spark there. That is the moment to hand a kid a pole and let them try. In fact if I'd let her reel it in she may have been hooked right there. Maybe not professional tourney hooked, but hooked. I myself got hooked about a year ago. I moved near the Cali Delta and a bunch of lakes, plus a Bass Pro Shops. One bored day I asked myself why I wasn't fishing. Watched some fishing videos - people getting excited. I Bought a cheap BPS combo the next day and never looked back. To answer the question though, how to get kids into fishing: Steps: - take away their smart phone. - make them play outside! My parents wanted me OUT of the house to play, not inside. Parents today - man I am SO glad I'm not a kid today. What a shame.
  4. I feel like that when I catch fish that are not bass as well. I understood the question to be what we like about bass fishing as opposed to other types. I think it's a combination of the fight bass give, the abundance of the species, and the fact that the angler doesn't just sit still waiting for a bite, they work for it. It's an active type of fishing. I've only been seriously fishing for a year, so my opinions: For one thing, bass are everywhere. I have an easier time catching black bass than I do other fish I target, especially once I find fish. They'll bite almost anything sometimes, especially topwater. Which brings me to my next point - topwater action! My first bass was caught with a popper. I don't need to explain how awesome that was. The whole lake heard me. I've never caught another species that way.
  5. I think they use the bicycles for delivery. That's where the big savings probably come from. 8 days is impressive via bike messenger.
  6. Cheap stuff from Walmart. Ozark Trail I think. $7 for both. Small bottles. The oil seems rather oily while the grease feels - greasy.
  7. I'm trying to decide what to buy too. A fishing kayak with pedals costs more that a tricked out 14' aluminum boat, or jon boat. Yaks are cool, but I'd like to be able to move around a little I think. But a yak would be easier to carry and launch. I think I'd rather be comfortable and able to easily handle rougher waters, so I'll probably do the boat. Maybe a cheap paddle kayak too Important: I've never tried a kayak. Hard to decide without a little experience. Rent one if you can. Might love it, might hate it.
  8. Natural selection actually occurs. Bass are already so stupid/aggressive that they'll bite just about anything under the right conditions. I'm thinking about attaching some trebs to my GoPro and casting it for some interesting footage.
  9. Only thing I can think of is a guy, my Dad's friend, who would always wave at other boaters as we motored along, and when I'd turned to look at who he was waving at, most of the time there was nothing there, and he'd just laugh.
  10. It's widely believed that those who are the loudest about it are the ones you need to worry about, for those who worry about such things. Maybe you gave your friend some good advice. Sounds like you have him figured out. I managed a strip club for five years (yes, women) and later married an insanely beautiful and sweet woman (divorced now). Thanks to this thread I see how silly it is for me to care what a bunch of dudes think. I care what women think sometimes. In fact, caring more about what dudes think seems kinda - um ya know? ~wink~ I'll be fine with my Lady Prez. Seriously though, I do appreciate that some guys feel they can't use it or just don't like it, obviously, or I wouldn't have started this thread. I almost didn't buy it. Hey I live in Cali, it's not really such an issue here I'd imagine haha. When I started this thread I was seriously thinking about painting it. This thread changed my opinion on it I guess. It helped. Pink. It's a color.
  11. My friend has bugged me about painting it so I thought I'd use pink line when we go in his jon boat soon, just for him haha. Maybe it is the older model.
  12. So many people have Grandpa stories! I got kinda sad reading a similar thread once, but my Dad told me recently that I caught my first fish with my grampa, probably 5-6 years old! I remember fishing the pier in Santa Cruz, and off the cement boat in Capitola. Yep, cement boat. I don't remember who I fished with each time, but I now know I did fish with grampa
  13. You win the thread!
  14. Another pink line suggestion! I just might do that.
  15. A lady may be impressed by our display of manly confidence! Wait, why did I ask a bunch of dudes in the first place? Or did I? Surely there are some women on the forum? I didn't know there was a Barbie spinning rod. I thought those were all spincasters. Oh I see it's $40. Must be the deluxe model. I followed the image link - that's an actual fishing combo, wow! Looks plasticy but <grabs a pen> um I forgot I gotta go do something.
  16. Love the suggestions! Barbie rod and pink braid, got it! I'm gonna be so cool. I gotta learn the dance thingy in the GIF on page one. The photo Hank posted is of the correct reel. There are two different Lady Prez, the one I bought is apparently available for limited times. ?? It doesn't look hot pink at all which is good. The regular Lady Prez looks more pink to me. I think it's a cool color the more I look at it. And it feels niiiiice! Um, anyways... I will proudly use this reel. Dammit!
  17. Too hairy. TMI probably but yikes! Weather forecast here insists it has been raining for two days, but it's been mostly cloudless. Sucks because I would have fished. Nah, I'm not painting it. What matters is if the fish like the reel! Thanks for all the input everyone! I'll post vids of me using it on my little Youtube channel so the whole world will know about it soon. Well a few hundred people maybe haha. I'm curious as to what type of rod and line you guys would put on this reel. I guess it might depend on what you already have. Right now I use mono on a 6.5' MF cheap BPS combo. I have a Cabela's 7' medium rod my Dad gave me that needs a reel. "All Pro" I think. It's all I have for now. I'm just getting started. The reel part number has 35 in it, but I remember the specs falling between Pfluegers 30 and 35 size regular Prez reels. It has 10 lb drag, weighs 9.x oz I think. Right now I'm shooting for stripers off the bank, and some bass at a lake off the docks. I intend to get into bass fishing more and will have a small boat soon. But I like catching stripers as well and I do it more often. I'm thinking/guessing (like I said, I've been fishing less than a year) maybe a medium rod and possibly loading it up with 20lb braid, although the bank fishing I do can be rocky, so maybe not. Could use a leader. I've never used braid. Just trying to decide the best setup for a second rod. Would it match up well with a MH?
  18. Awesome!!! I've been fishing for really only almost a year and this is the nicest reel I've used, once I actually use it I mean. I already understand it to be a good deal even at normal price so when I saw it for $21 I couldn't believe it. I should have bought two. They only had the one size though - model # 6935LB. I guess it's a 3500, 35 whatever. Specs match similar size Presidents. Can't wait to try it.
  19. Purple ain't pink though! I have a friend who thinks I should paint it. I thought I would too, maybe, but now I doubt it. I fish alone most of the time for now anyways. As for the upside-down spinning photo, every once in awhile I will switch hands due to tendonitis, but I couldn't hold it like that for long. Painting it: I could ruin it, plus gotta buy paint and clear coat. I could have paid for a Men's Prez or close to it if I do that. It would be kinda cool to paint a reel, but I'd rather fish! I personally have no problem with the color itself. I mean aside from the "girls like pink" aspect that's ingrained in us/me, it looks fine. Some people have favorite colors and all that, I really don't. It looks kinda weird actually, but like I said I'm a little colorblind. The regular Lady Prez looks more hot pink to me than this model. I was hoping to try it this week but I see rain for the next several days. We'll see.
  20. It's funny, when I read some forums about people buying this reel a lot of them said it was for their wives and that the women liked the pink color and were happy to be "represented" in a sports market dominated by men. A few women posters commented saying the same themselves. Not one complained about it being sexist. I've known plenty of women in my life who like being women, being pretty, etc. The people who get their panties in a bunch ("pun" intended) are often not women at all, but do-gooders who feel they must be offended for the people who don't know they should be offended. Anyways, back to the reel - I can't wait to try it out. And it's also kind of funny that pink is a color most men spend their lives trying to get at. Aerosmith think pink is cool. It's their favorite crayon!
  21. Laughing my butt off at the last two replies. Where in the world did you dig up that gif? LOL!
  22. I was hoping the reel would still be available when I started the thread. In case anyone wanted it. Took awhile for FedEx though. As far as I can tell it isn't for sale now. With tax and shipping it was $28.
  23. This thread isn't about the reel exactly, so I didn't start it in that forum. It's more of a social thing. Mods feel free to move it though if needed. I couldn't pass up the deal on Pflueger's website. A Lady President spinning reel for $21 - clearance. Normally $60. It's pink, yessirree by golly! But it's a President for $21. Before I decided to buy it my friend was saying it's too pink. I thought about painting it, and if I received it and didn't like the color then I would. I watched a few videos on people painting reels to see if I could. I received it today and it is quite pink! There are two different lady models apparently and they are a little different. This seems to be one that is only available at certain times, and normally at full price(?). I read that somewhere. The pink color is a little different on them, and so is the design of the handle and other parts. I was gonna post a link to their site but the reel I bought is no longer there. Anyways, it's pink but I kinda don't care. I'm a little colorblind anyways so I don't notice colors as much as other people I think. And this is a quality reel. It feels really nice. Dude...$21 for a Prez. I almost didn't order it because of the color. That seems really stupid. I don't care if people think it's feminine or "gay" or anything else. I mean I care a little maybe, hence the thread, but I'm going to use it as is. This is an awesome reel for the price. I feel like I'd be stupid NOT to buy it. I only own one rod and reel, a BPS cheapie. So curious what y'all think. Am I gonna get a bunch of crap from you guys at the dock? ? I read a forum, maybe here, where guys bought the reel and didn't care. Others won't touch it. You don't have to be politically correct here, tell it like it is. I am going to use it as is either way. Would you fish with this reel?
  24. I find fishing for any species to be relaxing and therapeutic.
