Agree or Not Agree?
This. Even if there were how would you "master" it? Who doles out all the luck? Where is all this luck stored, manufactured, what does it look like? Can I buy it on the streets? "Hey Mack, I'm all outta luck. Got a dime-bag?" If you have a great day fishing but get run over by a cement truck on the way home, were you lucky? ? Finally, I've never heard a NASCAR announcer say, "What an awful crash! It looks like his skill has finally run out!" "I agree, Jim-Bob. He spent far too much time practicing on the track and precious little time working on his luck" Jim-Bob: "What an idiot"

Paranormal Fishing Stories
Hilarious. Not homeless beds or campers beds - no they found Bigfoot beds! I guess the hair samples found in the beds proved it. I mean my sheets are full of hair and I'm probably not as hairy as a Bigfoot would be if they were real, so surely they found hairs and toothbrushes and dentures and all kinds of DNA evidence. Can't wait to hear from the scientists that they submitted the samples to. ;)

Luck
Everyone who plays the lottery thinks they are ahead despite the astronomical odds of it being true The odds at the casinos are much better, although they are still designed to take peoples money at a much much higher rate than they pay out. As for "luck", people tend to remember the times they were right/win vs the times they were wrong/lose. It's how psychics get away with it, as statistically they are actually wrong most of the time. Some people just don't notice or care. Human nature.

Who Is Done Fishing for the Year?
Done fishing? I just started fishing this year, I'm not taking a break until at least 2031. I will fish all year any time I can. I'm in Cali - one thing the state is still good for.

How to know if you can afford or is getting a boat good?
Buy a boat. You'll make it work financially ;) My Dad can't seem to buy anything without calculating its ROI. The guy is worth several million but hesitates buying a fishing license because of the cost and the fact that it's late in the season. He's not really a fisherman but we like to hang out together and he's getting old. Oh well, guess we can't fish together this year! That is just bad. You can't take it with you when you're dead. I'm buying a little used aluminum boat as soon as I can. I want it bad enough and I will make it work. Why work hard if you can't enjoy the money you make? I have no mouths to feed so easy for me to say, sure. But my general philosophy is that you don't know how long you'll be on this Earth, so do what you want as often as possible. Enjoy it.

Reaction To On The Water Rudeness
Okay, I keep reading here ^^ that some fisherman carry guns and we'd better watch out for them. Have there been a lot of shootings between these people? Are there any reports of fishermen being murdered while fishing from their boat? It seems pathetic to me. I suppose a few people are stupid enough to do it, but seriously, someone showing their gun to me as in the story above seems pretty silly. Yeah, you're gonna shoot me? Are there areas of the country where there are more of these types of idiots than others? If someone did that on my boat they would never be on my boat, or anywhere near me, ever again. Tough guys and their boom-sticks. Pathetic.

Walmart
I hate Walmart. I hate the long lines, the shoppers, the kids, even the fishing section sucks where I live. I go in if I absolutely must but I have to take a deep breath first. I just can't stand it. I don't mind ordering online and picking up the item, that's not too bad, but I've only done it twice I think. Walmart. Hate.

Starting a YouTube Channel
These are only my personal preferences (I've only been fishing 6 months): - Show fishing in your videos. Lots of it. - Do not have hot wing contests, prank videos, or do anything that resembles an episode of Jackass. - Some of the Googans are good solo but the Squad itself - well if you wanna make money maybe that's the way to go. They rarely fish and I find them lame (I'm 50 so...). - Don't talk a million miles an hour (Flair). Calm the hell down Channels I like: - Greg Blanchard. Very cool, mellow and doesn't act like a fool, informative and lots of fishing. One of the very best. - Brendan Miller. This kid has a great sense of humor while keeping most of his vids about fishing. He does good video work and is still improving. Cracks me up. - Tactical Bassin. Almost too much information in each video really. I wish they showed more fishing while they talk. Be yourself. My music theory instructor told the class one day, "You can pretty much do only one of two things - make good music or make money with music." Figure out which you want to do. I say make the content you like and let the chips fall where they may. Have fun and let people see that! Edit to add: Watch Glenn's videos here at Bass Resource! Who wouldn't wanna fish with that guy???

Improper “form” when I set the hook
Sounds like you made progress. Was gonna say get a bungee cord and strap your elbows to your body Glenn's advice was probably better!

Why do I even fish?
I haven't fished very long but for me, fishing is what takes my mind off my problems. I fish sometimes just for that reason. It's like therapy for me. Someone said that two hours may not be enough. It isn't. I have fished many hours only to have the bite on for maybe an hour or less. - Try live bait if you haven't, at least until you catch a few - Different water - Different water - Different times of day - Different times of day I think fishing with other people is a great idea, especially if your mind is distracted when you're alone. I'm still a rookie but those are my thoughts. Good luck!

Dock fishing and crazy home owners
Be nice to me and I'll be nice to you. Some people drive dangerously on the road but I don't scream at every driver. Why are anglers an okay target? My Dad lives on a lake. I was fishing from his dock a few months ago. There is a weekly bass tourney every Wednesday evening. I was tossing a popper and a bass boat trolled by. The guys clearly saw me cast and then one proceeded to cast within five feet of my lure. I was ticked but didn't say a word. The result?..... I caught a fish, he did not. THAT was SWEET f'n revenge! This guy ticked me off because I usually stop and let them fish the docks just because I'm cool like that. I want to do the tournament as soon as I get a boat. I like to watch and see how they fish. I also find garbage from anglers all over the shores on the CA Delta. I understand both sides of this. A lot of anglers are inconsiderate. Brandishing a weapon can get you in a lot of trouble. So can murder. Shotgun - give me a break. As I said, be nice to me and I'll be nice to you. Plus, now I know where you live.

One of the most fascinating things about fishing.
I've seen a few snakes, a mangy dog trying to chase a jack rabbit (that was hilarious *). I'd imagine there are some animals out there trying to get us. Ticks? I figure it's only fair. I imagine the fish I am trying to catch is trying to catch its own fish to eat, meanwhile I'm on shore being stalked by a bear or A-hole humans (Delta bank you never know who you might run into). This takes away any guilt I could have about fishing I saw one of those crosses people put on roadsides where someone has died - except that it was under a bridge where I was fishing. Bit unnerving. * The jack rabbit flew past me as I approached the levy. I thought d**n wish my camera was on. A few seconds later a messed up looking dog trotted across my path - that made me hesitate. He looked at me with an excited dog-smile and proceeded to turn left, the opposite way I'd seen the jack rabbit go. Made me laugh.

Fall Is In the Air!
Central Valley in Cali. I'll say Fall is beginning because it hasn't been 100 degrees in weeks! These high 80s to mid 90s days are getting downright chilly! I'm also anxious to hit some decent stripers from the shore of the Delta soon.

What to do....
Sounds like the guy is already ticked off at you so I'd absolutely turn him in. I see he's already being investigated so my advice is probably not needed. If not send me the info/FB page and I'll go online and report him myself. He sounds like a world class jerk.

Journal/Notebook?
I have a computer in my boat and it's connected to my bow-mounted robotic arm (SuperCaster 3000) and my trolling motor. The computer analyzes the weather and other conditions, then searches for fishing reports from all of your apps (thanks for all the input!), and determines where people have caught fish. It drives the boat where it needs to be, then it selects an appropriate bait, scans the fish finder, and casts the bait all on it's own. I just take a nap and when I wake up I'm parked at the dock with a live-well full of fish! I'm nowhere near organized enough for a journal. Perhaps after I get some years of fishing behind me I will find such a thing useful. Right now it sounds like homework, and I hate homework I just fish the conditions that are presented to me. That is fun and challenging and that's how I learn. That's what I want to master. That's the whole point for me. About Apps: I don't think I'd rely on a phone app. Mobile app companies come and go (like mine did) and your data will go with it when they do. If you're going to fish for the next 30 years what are the odds that any given app will still exist at that time? If I designed such an app I would collect all of your data and then sell it as a very expensive add-on to the app. Now I know where every fish has ever been caught, and so does everyone else who pays for it. I think there is such an app. I'm still new to fishing so maybe it will make sense to me one day, but if I want to go fishing then I go fishing. I don't care where it is or when or what happened on this date two years ago, or even yesterday. The fish don't either. All in good fun, no offense intended Cheers!

"Dog Days of Summer"
Cold beer. J/K I actually rarely drink when I fish. I haven't fished enough yet to really use such advice so <shrug>. I've caught every bass this summer (100 degree days) off my Dad's dock with a popper at dusk. I'm sure I learned that here from the man who posted above me.

Thank you
I just joined the forums, and I've only been fishing 6 months. I've learned so much from the videos on this site and I really appreciate that. Thanks, Glenn! Yer the man!

Fishing as therapy
Fishing has been a great stress reliever for me, then again there have been a few times I'd wished I'd stayed home! One time recently I cast out a brand new lure, first cast, snagged it and went straight back home. Normally I'd be okay with that but I was definitely looking for stress relief that day and it didn't work I've been fishing less than 6 months but I do a lot of it. Sometimes I will hit the Delta levee for an hour or two to get away from it all. I've had a lot of stress lately and man am I glad I have fishing. Part of it is just being in a beautiful setting - not the Delta so much, but I love fishing places with great scenery. I want to hit Yosemite soon, we will see what remains after the fires. Just being near or on the water is a great feeling for me.

unfair advantage?
If you disqualify lures due to availability then what about people who make their own lures? Won't work.
