  1. I put a reel which has braid on it and tied a rapala lipless keychain and it cast like a charm, I got over 100ft casting distance without pushing it. I will probably bring it along for this week end outing to see how it does on/in the water
  2. I had two reels spooled with 40 or 50lbs braid, I will likely use one to try it. I seldom put leaders on my setup except for the ML finesse setup.
  3. I ended up buying the medium 7'3" lunkerstik casting, was unknowingly 20% off as a bonus. It has LOT of give so I might go fluorocarbon to compensate a little bit, there's no way I can get a fish unpinned on this rod. Seems sturdy enough to get job done though. It Will likely go to next year before trying it sadly !
  4. I end up having a bit more budget because the lunkerstik had 20% on it so I went with a St.Croix Bass X 6'6" medium/Fast casting. Will have to put a reel on it likely spooled with 10-12lbs mono but I dont know about the ratio just yet !
  5. Fred is my best buddy's name lol ! I note for the fluoro Line. Mine should be weightless most of the time ! On my way to the store !
  6. Thanks for your reply and I noted for forum decorum, I will open up new threads next time, linking the threads I read so to show I did my homework I meant whipping, sorry English is not my first language. Like I said, even if my kayak would allow me to fish standing, I prefer to fish seated, especially this time of year since water is pretty cold here, so no tip down whipping and ironically, I'll have to do more like a side wiping movement if I want to jerk it. I'm driving tonight or tomorrow night to SAIL in QC City for my crank setup and will take a look at the other rods. Still wondering wether I go spinning or BC, will probably make my mind while driving there (1h30 ride)
  7. I hate to open new topics for stuff that was already discussed elsewhere. Do you prefer shorter because of the wiping action ? I might just get an HMG 6'6", they're on sale now but I was wondering baitcast vs spinning ?
  8. I also fish from a kayak, and with rod holders on a milk crate, you can carry a few more rods. I carry 3 to 4 rods when fun fishing and up to 7 when tourneying.
  9. I am in the process of trying soft plastic jerkbait fishing as it seems like bass are on shads during this time of year. I fish from a kayak most of the time, usually not standing so wiping it down like I saw on the videos will not happen so I could maybe get away with a longer rod ? I read in this topic and some prefers casting, other prefer spinning. I have a few setup that might fit the bill: 7' M/F Spinning 7' MH/F Spinning 6'6" MH/F casting 6'6" MH/XF Spinning 7'11" H/MF casting 6'10" H/F casting I plan on throwing 5" flukes (Houdini 5 and/or Strike King KVD Perfect Plastic Caffeine Shad 5") on 4/0 or 5/0 offset shank or swimbait EWG 4/0 and 5/0, likely weightless. If I need to buy something new, I would like to double it as a weightless swimbait setup, if that makes sense. Budget is under 100 CAD and I'm located in Canada, so I keep it to widely known big brands from bricks and mortar stores. I especially like Fenwick stuff but the store has also St.Croix, Abu, Okuma, Daiwa, Shimano, Quantum. I'm not that much in technique specific stuff but I like to have my rigs done in advance so I don't mind going new. I figure I'd need M/F on the stouter side or MH/F on the softer side but I might assumed wrong ? TIA
  10. I love my new kastking assassin and Royale Legend Elite. I'm relatively New with baitcasters and can cast the RLE a mile. I had more trouble dialing the Assassin in but end up with good results with casting distance w/o backlashes even in high winds and this reel is LIGHT ! Both are comfy in my average size hands. They replaced Shimano's in my still incomplete arsenal !
  11. I'll fish the Eagle Valiant and the other kk baitcasters today Drag on the Valiant is strong, not as smooth as the Shimano's but close enough.
  12. Sad, the last rod I ordered from Amazon was badly packaged but no harm, luckily !
  13. The Lightning rods left in B&M stores are 2 pieces. I dont know about Falcon I will take a look at them when I get home I'm still lost with line choice though...
  14. G.Loomis are out of budget, especially if they are addictive LOL !
  15. I'm in Canada, shipping would kill the deal and with recent NAFTA negociations, Canadian Border Services Agency suddenly became zealous about stuff from the US ?
  16. I personnally use a size 1000 on my HMG Med-Light/Fast Action for Ned rig. 2500 size would likely do the trick too, I just wanted to shave a few 1/10th of oz.
  17. I fish from a kayak as well most of the Time. How you like yours so far ? And which Line/reel ?
  18. I've pursued my shopping and here is where I am so far: -Fenwick Lunker stik 7'3" Med/Mod 86 CAD -Berkley Lightning Rod 6'6" or hopefully 7', Med/Mod-Fast 55 CAD, I will have to check them at Canadian Tire make sure they're 1 piece -Carrot Stix Wild Wild Orange, 7' Med/Mod, used, 50CAD Reel will be a KastKing Royale Legend Elite, 5.3:1 and line will be somewhere between 8-12lbs mono or fluoro, still need help there though.
  19. Yep I saw that its not on the website ? Tuf-Line XP is good too, very flexible. PP is usually stiffer. I Will likely switch to KK Braid next season.
  20. I just spooled my new baitcast reels with Tuf-Line Tournament 8 without issues, works great !
  21. Cabelas Prodigy, size 30, 6.2:1 ratio Shimano Sahara, size 3000 to get the 6.2:1 ratio KK Valiant Eagle, size 2000, 6.2:1 ratio Pflueger President XT, size 30
  22. I might be off track right now but I "discovered" Fenwick Aetos Series this year and fell in love. I own a 7' spinning MH/Fast Aetos and it's about to became my favorite rod. Fish heavier tube with it and its light and sensitive
  23. It will likely be the Lunkerstik as it is cheap enough but seems good enough. 7'3" Med/Moderate.
