  1. The lid: take a second Crate and cut to keep the bottom. Common setup in kayak fishing world. Mine doesn't have a lid...
  2. I understand that ! My Jeep is my fishing vehicle so I don't need to unload my fishing gear or the kayak. I daily commute with an econobox to work since the ol Jeep is thirsty. I made an overhead fishing rod carrier inside the Jeep so everything is ready to go when needed. If I feel like going fishing after work, I just leave home with the Jeep in the morning I'm adding a teardrop camper to the fishing possibilities for next season ! Planned on a roof rack on the camper as well. I promised my girlfriend I was a normal guy 6 months per year, from November to April lol, the rest of the year I'm fishing as much as I can As for your trailer, I highly recommend at least 14' total lenght as it's easier backing up. You will probably not see it in the side mirrors since too narrow and maybe not in the rear mirror especially when backing up after the fishing Day since no boats will be on it. That being Said, I aint the best in town to back-up trailers. Ymmv !
  3. Also, if that helps, my trailer has a 14' total lenght. The pwc trailer is 10'6", the other smaller one I linked is 6'6". A trailer is great to carry multiple boats but I still prefer jeep-toping mine when I am on my own. No rudder on my good ol' Catch 120 though and I built a load bar out of pvc so loading it is a breeze.
  4. I meant my trailer base isnt an HF one so I can't attest for sure that the HF small trailer I linked has a 2x2 tongue, I eyeballed it. Its the same "Deck" size than mine and my Deck size was originally based on a Malone kayak trailer crossed with a standard PWC trailer for tongue lenght. I've been pleased with the results. I realised afterwards that HF had the same deck size in kit and northern tools even have the aluminium version of it
  5. 10 gauge is .120 but often sold as 1/8th. 0.005 shoudn't make a difference since it should notre carry much more than 240lbs. Just make sure it's really 2x2. Mine is not an harbor freight since i'm in Canada and no HF here sadly ?
  6. I'd just buy a correct lenght square tube instead. Eyeballing it should be around 9 feet 2x2 square tube, 1/8th should be enough. My tongue is 2.5x2.5 and would I have to do it again, I'd go with 2x2.
  7. https://m.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200612543_200612543 This is the size I built mine, minus my tongue is way longer. Can give you my plans if you want to.
  8. Load it from the cart or use an upside down milkcrate to "jack" the Stern/rudder of the ground
  9. I own 2 "finesse" combos. One is a Fenwick HMG 6'9" ML/F for ned rigs, paired with a Shimano Sedona 1000FE upgraded with carbon drag washer. The other is a Fenwick Elite Tech Bass 6'10" ML/XF as my drop shot rod, still paired with a Sedona 1000FE with upgraded carbon drag washer. I put 1000 size reels on to keep weight to the lightest.
  10. Good point ! My setup backlashes with frogs under 5/8oz. 5/8 and 3/4 are fine so that's what I'm using
  11. What he said☝️ Also, you might still be interested in learning how to work on your boat. I know nothing about ptsd but I know doing these mecanical/handy tasks clear my mind and this knowledge would prove useful if/when you get a problem on the water and even might be useful for other types of mech work. You can learn the easiest jobs and let the dealer do the rest. Also, unless you removed batteries (even then) you'll likely need new ones. I'd also replace spark plugs for peace of mind.
  12. I fish from a kayak and my 6'10" Works fine. Being in a yak most of the time is what Makes me reluctant to use a longer frogging Rod.
  13. Mine is a Quantum Team KVD 6'10" h/f
  14. A Little off topic but would a shallow spool mitigate those longer casts effect on ipt ? It might requires thiner line to achieve same distance though?
  15. I own a St.Croix Bass X with these specs. Use it mainly for soft plastic jerkbaits (5" flukes)
  16. I'm using a relatively cheap 6'10" H/F Team KVD paired with a Kastking Royale Legend Elite 8.1:1 spooled with 50lbs test braid. The rod is a little short as far a as a frog rod goes but fits the bill. Cast just shy of a country mile and it's more than enough for me. A longer rod would likely get me the full country mile cast but I don't feel I really need it. I have yet to hook a bass on a frog though, only hooked a pike.
  17. I realized when servicing my Curado G that I never even set it. It just kept on casting heavier jigs happily with only spool tension set.
  18. I'm using a dropper loop most of the time, keeps lure out of the main line.
  19. FWIW: I own two Sedona 1000FE and both are on ML rods. A Fenwick HMG 6'9" ML/F and a Fenwick Elite Tech Bass 6'10" ML/XF.
  20. I owned one and a buddy I fished with owned severals. I liked mine and even won a kayak tourney with it. My experience with CF rods been mitigated though. Need to be extra cautious with localized concentrated impacts as even a mild hit, if localized, will weaken the rod and it will suddenly break without notice. It might be true with higher ton graphite as well though. Mine was a 2 pieces and I gave it to my girlfriend and it wasn't the EVx that broke (2x Fenwick HMG and and 2x Abu Vengeance IIRC)
  21. I use to have only Shimano reels. I now prefer to go with the best tool that fits the budget. I own Shimano, Pflueger, Kastking, Piscifun and Johncoo and (Okuma fly) reels. For rods, my first choice been Fenwick for a few years now unless they dont produce what I need. I own Fenwicks, St.Croix, Quantum, Rapala, (Reddington, TFO and Amundson fly) I only miss 1 spinning rod in my arsenal and may replace the frog rod with a longer one.
  22. Here is my crate setup. Locknut in the rod holder and Bolt head inside the crate. Black zip ties take care of fastening the lower part of the Rod holders to the crate. Can carry up to 7 rods this way as I'm using one of the kayak Flush mount for another rod on my left. Right Flush mount is for my net.
  23. I put my milk Crate with its rod Holder right behind the seat, they tangle less this way. Also, my second triple Rod holder is behind my left arm since im a righty. To store them horizontally I saw the new yakattack Rod holders are with that "setting" embedded with rod locked. Those are track-mountable also.
  24. Mine usually get grayish quickly but as long as it's not fraying or too short, it stays on.
  25. When an angler fantasizes on a piece of equipment, a journey starts to get it. I recently stumbled upon a Fenwick Techna AV and I just got to own a second one (first one is a two pieces) I received the reel to pair with it at job today (KK Spartacus Plus) Will pick it up tomorrow, can't wait!
