I'm not fishing these, but I've been fishing the Fish Arrow Heavy Poop 3.6" which are quite similar. The Owner Twistlock 5/0 5132-151 with the stock medium(M) keeper swapped out to an Owner CPS large(L) works well but rusts easily. I switched to the 5/0 Berkeley Fusion 19 Swimbait hook with the stock spring keeper also swapped to the Owner CPS (L) and its finish resists rust much better. However, I need to bend the hook's point down a skosh towards the hook's eye to skin hook the plastic. No big deal with standard pliers with the jaws insulated with some electrical tape. Needed to do a slight overbend also with the Gamakatsu 5/0 3/16oz 296415-3/16. It's also very rust resistant.

I don't need to. I've serviced hundreds of reels fished in my local waters. I've never found anything in a gearbox but old grease, emulsified grease, and perhaps some sand grains near the weep holes if the person made it a habit of dropping their reel into the dirt, which is very rare. Horse hockey. You're way out of your lane. Bud, you didn't state an opinion. You make a statement of fact. which happens to be false. You're entitled to your own opinion, even kooky ones, but not your own facts. Stick an "IMO" or "in my hands" at the end of something goofy like this next time and perhaps you won't get any pushback. Definitely not from me anyway. The fact is that if Tat SVs, or Tat 150s, or Zillions were only capable of 50' casts they'd never make it to the market.

I think I can spit 30'. Weightless what? I can see a 3" senko with 50lb mono going nowhere, but... The very 1st day I got my '17 tat SV in 2017 I tested it on a measured field because of all the hubbub. My very first cast before it was really dialed in using a 6'7" Omen Black MF with a 5" senko went 93' with brakes on 8. Fact. I have a witness too. Line was 20lb J8. Plant it on a 7'3" and distance increases. The Zillion will melt the Tat SV for distance with the same bait. I throw 5" flukes with mine on a 7'6" ARK Essence with 15lb Tatsu. The Tat 150 hangs with the Zillion for distance when using the same bait. You don't have to trust me. The anti-Daiwa reel tester on YT has plenty of cast battle vids on his page that shows plenty of video footage with actual measurements that contradicts your results, and by a large margin. Perhaps you need to work on your casting, or something.

Something's broken somewhere in the chain then. The reel, your tape measure, or something else. When nothing's broken easily double that, if not more. Same as above. If you can't cast an unweighted 5" senko 110'-120' with the 150 on a typical 7'3' MH rod and say 12lb mono, then something's quite wrong somewhere.

It might be more of a weight issue than a money issue. Besides, the US market Zillion 1000 uses an aluminum pinion. I wouldn't be afraid of aluminum gears at this point, especially non-micromesh-micromodule types. Even my Quantum Vapor PT is eerily smooth with its aluminum main gear. The key here is to diligently keep your reel properly cleaned and lubed. If you're uncomfortable doing this yourself, then pay someone to do it regularly. They're all quite simple machines actually, and barely different internally. but they'll all suffer with neglect.

Whether or not it's technically the perfect choice, the SDJ is my default knot for any plastic line of any test/diameter. I've broken off exactly once while using it during the past 7 years only because in frustration I stupidly tried to jerk a solid fish over a log with 10lb Sufix Advance.

I wouldn't worry about it at all, especially at that price. AFAIK, all Tatulas come out of its Thailand facility, so it's not actually JDM. Like you said, it's amazon, so you can easily return it if there's an issue, and it's highly unlikely there will be any at all.

So, after turning the handle several times it works to your satisfaction? Is that the extent of the wear in, or did you do something else? Lubed the articulated point of the kick lever or something? Deburred the click ratchet? Fished it for a few hours? My Curado K has some forward play before engagement during random cycles which is why I responded earlier in this thread with the post/link from '21, and it's fully lubed by me.

I was there in early spring, and it was nice weather. We've been broiled here on LI for the past month, so it's nothing new. They're in one of the Dell Webb developments. A bunch of HOA ponds throughout and stocked. I did well in them. I'll PM you next time I'm down there and maybe we'll hit some up.

My Alphas 800s is just as smooth as my Zillion G, and to be honest, so is the Tatula 80. Super smooth.

Eh, I'm not really focused on spool tension caps while I'm fishing, so I'm far less upset about that. But hey, you do you. I suppose they have their reasons, one being that Daiwa's braking system does work best without leaning into the spool tension. More than that, doing so seems to cause more problems than it solves. We had a thread here from a new-to-Daiwa guy a few years ago who couldn't stop blowing up. After questioning him, he finally revealed that he was slow dropping his baits with spool tension. Once he learned to stop that, his problem went away.

Not necessarily. It's aimed at newbies armed with bad info about juicing the spool tension for a slow drop. I just went through this with a local who was too impatient to wait until I met up with him for a lesson. He's alright now. Cool. Which Aird X did you grab?

For $100, just grab the '17 Tat SV from the link you posted. Not going to beat that price. Just set the spool tension for zero play and you're good.
