Don Iovino has stopped making soft plastics.
Thanks for the update @Brad Bullard

Who ties an FG knot?
Belt loop makes a great attachment point for the braid, and use the weight of the rod leaned away from you for tension.

Jordan Lee Returning to BASS
Alternative view, the re-hires are more than happy to tell everyone how bad it sucked "over there" and why they came back. So fewer people are likely to get the itch to leave.

Garmin UHD vs UHD2?
Anyone have specific experience with the UHD vs UHD2 on FFS? I've been putting off pulling the livescope trigger all year, and it's about to be time. Pretty much decided to just do the garmin, with a -34 transducer.

Quick Report
It almost feels like they haven't really pulled up for fall yet? Last time I graphed shad they were in 15-20fow. Didn't see any shad. Water temps were 64 on Saturday. Almost every fish I caught was in what I'd call 'nearby deep water'. +1 jerkbait was the winner by far for numbers. Sometimes 10 secs of pause. Flatside (slow, pauses) and t-rig showed well too.

Suspending Lipless Crankbait
That one's nice fishing shallow too, when it's so shallow I can't really keep one from burying up when I snap it the first time.

Quick Report
I've had my best results in 1-3 FOW the last two weekends after the crazy rains, which is definitely not my comfy place. Moving baits in both cases. Keitech/underspin in a lake-specific color on one lake, and a bretts bluegill (gold blade) chatterbait on another. Oh and a couple here and there at 10' deep in 15-20fow on cranks or jerkbaits. But the bigger fish were definitely shallow. Fish were way way picky, but the ones up shallow were warming up and getting a snack. Water temps dropped 7-10 degrees.

How often do you change your braid?
Vicious no-fade and fins both seem to last forever, and neither of them fade.

plastic swimbaits in the 6" size arena. new to it all.
I learned from here to just keep reeling like nothing happened. They are trying to stun it. Anyway I've caught a bunch of nice fish on the Optimum boom boom in 6". It's a big piece of plastic though, need a 1-4oz rod and I wouldn't throw on less than 20lb line (assuming normal diameter). I usually use 22lb tatsu. If you get them, you need to open up the hook pocket, there's really not enough room towards the front of the bait.

How often do you go into your tacklebox while fishing?
I'm pretty much always in the tacklebox. It is worst when I'm having a tough time, or when I have them really dialed in. On the latter, I'm immediately trying something else to see if they will also bite that. I carry too many rods and too much tackle, and it's saved me or upsized me often enough that it is hard to back off. With all that said I have started to narrow down what catches big fish for me, and the stuff that doesn't is starting to stay off the rods.

Upsizing Fall LMB
This was worth a couple of extra fish last weekend. Thank you!

Is it better to have a better reel or rod?
The difference between a $100 reel and a $200 reel is nice but not huge. IE Fuego vs Tat SV. The difference between a $100 rod and a $200 rod is really a big deal.

Why is this color hard to find?
Thanks. I'm guessing that's where I'll end up. Probably won't make much difference but I'll feel better about it.

Snap Swivels
For snaps, the paperclip style are significantly better. Larger diameter wire makes for a strong knot (not kidding). And it can't open up like the close/clasp style, and it also doesn't have anything sticking out. P Line's smallest (size one I think) for heavy use (swimbait, frog, big fish water) or tactical anglers 25lb for most applications. If you aren't fishing line over 15 lbs, just use the TA clips, p line are really heavy.

Favorite Keitech swim bait colors?
BLUF - white, natural, green or unpainted -something stock white to match pearl and other really white -something like a mouse, more subtle white with a two-tone, to match bluegill flash (which is a shad color) and other more natural colors. A stark white head on a natural body is a no from me -something green to match GP, GP/watermelon, sungill, etc. Unpainted works just fine here IMO. -put gill and shad sized eyes on them not these wee little eyes that so many makers use

Inflatable life jacket
Mustang is better, by a lot. Also, if I recall correctly the Mustang HIT (now replaced by the 150 I think) is -more- likely to roll you on your back when knocked out than any recreational life vest. Here's why: Type II PFDs – or offshore buoyant vests – are designed and developed for environments where wearers find themselves in isolated or rough waters. Offshore PFDs offer high buoyancy, and are suitable for most water conditions. Example - the Mustang HIT or 150. Minumum 33lbs for the class, the 150 is 38Lbs. Alternate example this ugly hot thing Type III PFDs - or inshore buoyant vests - are specifically designed for activities where adventurers can see the shore on calm or inland waters. Example NRS Chinook - 16.5 lbs of buoyancy - Type III The one caveat I can find is that the HIT/150 isn't really designed for hitting the water at high speed on plane, which is why the Mustang Elite exists. Different kind of harness. And at least as important for me, I'll actually wear it in the comically hot summers we have in Texas. I fish alone and consider myself to be a strong swimmer in rough environments, but I can't save myself if I'm knocked out. I take it with me on guided trips too, I'm not relying on anyone else to be strong enough to rescue me in a bad situation. It's me or the PFD. Could they not inflate? Perhaps. Wouldn't be long before they were out of business though. And if SAR, Coast Guard, and specops are all picking the same thing, I'm going to pay attention.

Largemouth bass died.
I rescued a fish once that had eaten a big snake, but couldn't get it all the way down. Dead middle of the summer in texas, water was about 90 degrees. Held her upright and gently rocked back and forth for about three minutes. Got her to swim away under her own power, but she came right back up and rolled on her side. Seven minutes more of just keeping upright and getting oxygen and she took off at full speed. Point being, you can keep at it until the fish is dead or swims off, and just because it rolled again doesn't mean it's dead. I probably baby them too much, but I figure I have enough accidents that are rough on them that I owe the big ones some extra attention. I'm also convinced that genetics play a part in fish size, so a big (especially overweight) fish needs to get back in there and make more big fish.
