  1. Thank you all! Anyone fished both (zillion and steez)?
  2. Hey, looking to buy either a steez a tw or get another zillion sv tw g. I have a few of the zillions and am very impressed by them. Part of me wants to step up to the steez just to see what it's all about...but I know that more money doesn't always correlate to better product. What makes the steez better? Just wanted to get the thoughts of those who have tried both. Thanks!
  3. Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions. We are going to look for a house on the lake, close by. We were looking at a lake that's 2 hours away, but I agree with others...if it's too far then you just end up doing maintenance when you are there since you go less often. And yes, we have been doing the rent a house on the lake, for the past 8 years (twice a year) and it's fun...but very competitive and expensive...just not many options. Would rather just put that money into our own place. Thanks again!
  4. I appreciate all the responses but really just looking for feedback from those that actually have/had houses on the lake.
  5. Interesting that you recommended the met dc over the met mgl…mind sharing why? Thanks
  6. Looking at buying a vacation home on the water. Just curious if any of you live on the lake. I’m surprised how few bass boats I see on ppl’s docks…mostly ski and pontoon boats. I’m wondering if it will be awesome or will I miss out on going to other lakes? Just trying to think ahead and make sure it’s not a grass is greener thing…. Obviously there’s lots of other benefits/problems with having a lake house…but just thinking strictly bass fishing…did yours improve or decrease? Thanks
  7. I have yet to hear anyone say it’s better than the zillion sv tw g. I’m sure it is in some way but I don’t think anyone has said much about it. I am still testing mine. I got ahold of a metanium mgl and put same 1/2 oz football head on it and 5 others (zillion, tatula elite, tatula tw sv, scorpion dc and Bantam). So far the zillion has cast the farthest. The zillion, bantam and metanium feel more premium in all aspects. I’m still messing around with brakes and all. All of the reels are very impressive! Going to try lighter baits next and maybe big bulky baits like a buzzbait.
  8. Picked up a 21 Scorpion from amazon...couldn't open the side plate. Whatever setting it was on was pretty nice. It sits pretty much exactly in between slx dc and metanium...I would save up and get metanium mgl.
  9. Just depends on clarity of lake and how you like to fish. If it were me and I could only take three, I would go with braid to leader for all three. You can always add 5-15 ft of fluoro/mono to the end of braid. Hope you have a great trip!
  10. Great explanation! Thank you! Can't believe you picked them up for $285 each!! If I could swing that...I'd get that and a zillion sv g lol!
  11. So helpful…could you maybe expound? There’s obviously big market for them. I have both dc and non dc. Everyone gets backlash…everyone hates backlash…dc helps reduce backlash…so why wouldn’t you want one. I know there’s got to be reasons…I just would like to hear what yours are. This I interesting! I hadn’t thought of that! I’m going to take my dc/sv and similar non dc reels/rods to work (have a pond at my office) with me this week and try to compare them with similar baits and on the same rod…. I just assumed it was a personal preference thing and that some people are just much better at thumb control than I am and vary rarely get backlash. I use all of mine for skipping as well…makes it much easier. You mention you like the regular mgl over the dc metanium especially for 1/4oz and less…can you explain that? I would have thought dc would help more with those lighter lures. Thanks!
  12. This may be a dumb question, but why would you not want a dc? (Excluding the sound)
  13. I guess the issue I do have with this is that I have 13-15 rod/reel setups that I take out on my boat. Since I only go once a month or so, I just won't use this reel very much...so I hate to put $550+ in a reel that I may use just a little bit each month. I could understand if I only had two or three do everything rigs, but I hate changing out baits a ton while I'm on the water so that's why I have certain rigs for certain baits. So because of this, I feel like middle to upper tier reels is where I should stay. I do like to feel, when I pickup a rod/reel, that it's quality and smooth...but I just don't know if I will have the skill and touch to tell that extra cost. Again, I have no doubt the antares or others are great reels...just not sure I'll get that ROI that I will with the rods I mentioned. Thank you again for everyone's thoughts. Enjoy hearing what everyone would pick tho
  14. Oh wow cool. I’ll look around. Thanks
  15. You're right...I guess I should have spelled it out. I thought "which would you pick" was clear enough but I guess not for everyone and I should have added "between those listed below" Budget isn't a constraint...just don't think anything above $500ish is worth it in my book Have a nice day cool...thank you for your thoughts. I just don't think I fish enough and am skilled enough to notice that much difference. If I was fishing 1-3 times/week then I would def consider it.
  16. Thanks! What is it that makes the metanium mgl so special?
  17. Very nice! I have heard nothing but good things about these. I am not the best at thumb control. I only fish once a month or so and the biggest frustration I have is backlash. So I have bought quite a few DC and SV reels and that has really helped. So my question is: have you noticed the new metanium mgl have a slightly higher tendency to backlash over dc/sv reels? I have no issues not getting backlash during normal casting...it's just those pesky wind gusts, or something unusual that affects the lure during flight that can cause that backlash and it's such a pain. Like I said, if I was able to get out there more often, I wouldn't think twice about it...but since I'm not able to consistently get out there...I just wonder if I should stick with DC/SV reels for the most part. Thanks for your thoughts Cool thank you! I actually have the daiwa and really enjoy it as well! Very smooth. The main reason for starting this thread was just trying to hear from those that have the mgl and some of these other reels to compare them. I appreciate your feedback! Can you pick out any pros/cons of those two? thanks
  18. We have a winner lol...there's always one . I know there are more higher priced reels...but I think diminishing returns plays into effect pretty quickly around the $400 price point. And for the record...I have around 15 reels and some of which are more expensive than these...I was mainly curious about these 4. Thank you! Yeh I have the previous Bantam and really like it but only for specific instances. I would love to try the new one though
  19. If money wasn't a factor...which would you pick for general use (eg swim jig, chatterbait...)? Metanium MGL Metanium DC Zillion SV G Scorpion DC
  20. Wow that is pretty intense! props to you for having a great system! I'm sure you cringed when I was looking to go down to just one line for everything ha. Any other thoughts? Anyone have any examples of where 10lb was not good for them and broke off? Just curious if it's mostly in our heads that 15lb is significantly more durable than 10lb... I don't mind getting both...just trying to organize my fishing gear and make it more functional
  21. Ok cool thanks! That makes sense. I wonder what time of year/weather pattern people feel most confident they are going to have a good day. I would have thought prespawn...but from reading a lot of these comments...that may not be the case
  22. You just mentioned cover and structure focused . didn't know if you had any particular baits you use for search baits for around cover/structure specifically. Are you still using squarebill/spinnerbait or are you referring more to pitching/flipping a jig or creature bait?
  23. Ok thank you! Anyone have any negative experiences with 10lb...I assume you want a little thicker diameter when using squarebills for abrasion resistance?
