High end Bottom contact rod or two middle/upper tier rods? which would you do?
Yes I know this…I was just trying to narrow down some models where you feel that curve starts to taper off…eg thr glx bottom contact is way more sensitive than an expride, but the nrx is not that much more sensitive than the glx. Something like that. I was really just looking for those guys that have had an expride, glx, imx pro, adrena, and xtreme…compare those on a sensitivity scale. I’ve pretty much made up my mind but still just curious.

So in your opinion what are some rods that are a step up from Expride in bottom contact sensitivity? This is the info I was looking for. Have you ever compared it with higher end rod like an NRX?

Thank you! Yes I agree with you. There are way too many glowing reviews of high end rods to all be wrong. I understand that technique is important as well , but I do think a good rod can make a big difference. so can you offer some suggestions on where you think the best rod is on the diminishing returns curve? I don’t need the absolute best but would just like a bottom contact rod that is super sensitive (ie more than an expride…) Would appreciate anyone’s thoughts on this. I would love a steez or nrx+ dedicated bc rod but can’t find one available. The closest I could find is the 7’1 MH legend xtreme. So just trying to decide if that rod is worth the money or am I overpaying

Yes I have pretty much the same setup on most of my setups…braid to leader. I noticed on my most high end spinning rod (megabass orochi) I could detect a bite while the line is slack, and also almost every pebble on the bottom. So looking to find something similar in a casting rod. So I guess I should have phrased it this way…those who have had a medium priced bottom contact rod (eg megabass orochi, g loomis imx/glx…) and upgraded to nrx, conquest, legend xtreme…was there a big difference?

In my experience (which granted isn't a ton), I can tell a noticeable difference in feel between two different rods...and they just happen to be at different price points. It's not the rod that detects the strike better that I am looking to feel really, it's the bottom structure that I am wanting to feel and the intricacies of it. Thanks for your help

High end Bottom contact rod or two middle/upper tier rods? which would you do?
Thank you for that advice. Seems solid. My main goal is to have a very sensitive bottom contact rod where I can feel the contours of the bottom really well and have good feedback. I use a 7'2 MH Expride right now for football jigs and while it is pretty sensitive, I do feel it could be better. I don't like changing out lures alot so I do have a lot of rods that I cary for specific techniques. Most of my rods are St Croix Avid x or exprides, and I am very happy with them. But the two holes that I think I need to fill are bottom contact and spinnerbait/chatterbait. So I was trying to decide on how to fill those holes. I have found that I love fishing my megabass whipsnake due to the quality and sensitivity over my other spinning rods (expride and avid x), and I love fishing my expride casting rods over my avid x casting rods for the most part. So...my main thing I'm trying to learn is...is there a difference in sensitivity between a $400 glx 844C MBR/mb braillist vs an nrx +844c/st croix legend xtreme? I am fine with getting the xtreme if it's worth the money... And again, I'm not asking you to tell me what I should do...I know only I can determine that...just asking what you would do if you were in my situation. Money isn't really an object...but I try not to go crazy...and I would like to stay married Thanks again everyone!! Love the discussion

High end Bottom contact rod or two middle/upper tier rods? which would you do?
Ok...so I started out looking to get the best bottom contact rod I could find. I wanted to get the megabass x-bites but looks like no one has one. I have called everywhere I can think of. I had bought one that I thought was in stock...but then found out that they were just taking my money and then when one comes in ("probably in the fall") they would mail it to me. Well, I would really like something sooner than that since I have a couple fishing trips coming up. So I started looking at other options. That same store recommended the st croix legend xstreme, which I'm sure is an amazing bottom contact rod. But we are getting up over $600. So my question is: would you go with that and just have an amazing football jig/bc rod, or would you get two middle of the rod rods? For middle of the road rods, I'm thinking Megabass orochi braillist for a bottom contact and maybe a megabass flat side special for spinnerbaits and moving baits. I don't have a really nice spinner bait rod, so that would probably be my next niche I would look to fill...but it's not super urgent. What would you do? And notice, I'm not asking what "I" should do...I'm not asking you to figure out what's best for me...just wondering what you would do if you were in this situation. Is the brailist a really sensitive bottom contact rod? Or would the legend xstreme be that much better? Thanks for your thoughts and sorry for the long read

The latest sale thread
Thanks! I was going to sleep…now I’m up about to buy a hypermag that I’m not sure I need…but have a hard time passing up a deal lol

Would you upgrade or just sell and get nrx?
Appreciate the advice…but most of my rods are medium (avid x and exprides) to higher end (megabass). A really good bottom contact rod is the only niche that I really don’t have a good rod for. Thanks again for the tips and help.

Thanks for your reply! I'll take a look at all of those. I fish several lakes with quite a variety so I do fish the smaller keitechs, but also sometimes the bigger presentations. But the majority would be 1/2 ounce finesse fb with a super chunk or rage craw. Thanks again

LOL Tom…always the same

Well that wasn’t helpful at all lol. Way to muddy up the water ha. Jk of course. So which of all of those would be your pick for what I’m looking to use it for? Any other thoughts?

So I have a Dobyns Sierra flippin stick. It’s ok but I just find I don’t use it. I have an expride 7’6 heavy that I use that for. I do need a high end bottom contact rod. So I’m thinking of either going through Dobyns trade in program and getting an xtasy, or just selling the Sierra and getting an nrx. What would you do? I haven’t used either (xstasy or nrx) and I do t have any stores within 100 miles that have them in stock. I am guessing I will get more money towards the Sierra by trading it in, but if everyone thinks that the nrx is that much better then maybe I should just go ahead and sell it. I’m going to be using it mainly for dragging football jig and Texas rig on the bottom and want the most sensitive rod. Thanks for your thoughts

Only fish main lake and secondary points that show fish on fish finder?
Sorry Tom. It’s a reservoir. 800 acres

Only fish main lake and secondary points that show fish on fish finder?
Yeh sorry...I didn’t mean for this to turn into a thread about my small lake. I just meant in general, if you decide to fish points...do you scan first and go on to the next if you just see bottom with no structure/cover/fish on ff. Thanks

Yes

Only fish main lake and secondary points that show fish on fish finder?
Yeh it’s a small lake so no map on lakemaster. Navionics has a basic map of it but it’s not super accurate. But yes I’ve ran most of the points and there’s no structure that I can see. I did see what looks like power lines but that’s about it. I’m in NC. I can only assume they are up shallow. There’s a lot of cover (fallen timber, some grass) around bank. This lake does have quite a bit of aerators throughout the lake. Not sure if that matters. anyway, thanks for your help. I fish a few lakes and some are bigger. And I had the same question where I see points where I would think fish should be but didn’t see any cover or structure on them, and didn’t know if I should fish them or move on.

Yeh that makes sense. Unfortunately, on this tiny lake, all points are bait mud bottom...that’s why I feel like I am waisting fine if I don’t see anything at all on the graph. I’m starting to think this lake is just dead...never see bait balls or anything. Thanks again!

So how do you choose which point to fish? I guess that's what I was trying to ask...there are so many points in an area...do you fish each one or do you scan them first to try and narrow down your focus? I am fishing a local small lake and just can't seem to find the fish. There's not much structure on this tiny lake (city lake) and I spent a couple hours yesterday scanning points and humps and just didn't see much. I didn't have time to fish and really focused on scanning. I did find one brush pile but other than that...nada. I only graphed about half the lake...so maybe they are in the other half ha. I guess I'm just trying to get better at off shore fishing...but I just can't seem to find them on my graph. I hate to just randomly pick a point and start dragging a football jig...I thought that was the point of offshore fishing...find a target and fish that target. Thanks again for all your help and tips!

Only fish main lake and secondary points that show fish on fish finder?
I was struggling to find fish the other day, so I started hitting all the main points in the lake. I didn't see any fish on them at all. My question is: Do you graph all points before you fish them, and if so, do you only fish them if you see something on graph that you want to target? Or do you still through a football jig for example, and run it down/up that point? Thanks everyone!

Shimano Zodias vs Megabass Levante?
Hey how are you liking the rods? Really thinking about pulling the trigger on the 6'10MH for a spinnerbait rod. What do you think?

Broke an eye on a megabass whipsnake...what should I do?
Hey everyone, somehow I broke the second eye from the top on my whipsnake. I still have the eye. I bought it about a year and a half ago. I have never repaired anything like this. Is it a pretty easy fix or should I send it back to megabass? I don’t think it will be an expensive repair but I hate to pay shipping both ways. Any advice?

During the spawn (water temps low 60’s) where do you focus your fishing?
Do you follow that same method first thing in the morning (dawn)? Or do you do topwater (popper/wp) and then when suns up go to squarebill or what? Thanks for the advice!

Go to lure during spawn
Thanks for your thoughts! Any chance you will share more about how you utilize the wp?

Go to lure during spawn
When water temps are 60-65, what lure do you start out with most often? What technique are you fishing?
