  1. in this early part of the season i've just been landed bass after bass with Yums worms...but just basically worms in general from creme to jet black all t-rigged, they have been my go to bait
  2. sorry forgot to mention with i throw the worm i texas rig it and put a weight on it and just jig if across the bottom letting it sit every foot or so, also make sure you aren't just casting directly at the fish ...you want to get their attention so cast over and just to the side that way the lure will be near them when you reel in
  3. all of the ponds i fish are extremely clear and i can see the fish before they bite. sometimes it's like they see me and won't bite but other times they don't notice me and i'll throw out a Yum worm and this past weekend it caused a feeding frenzy just like the package says it will. i'm not kidding there was a swarm of bass around my worm. majority of the time i throw a plastic worm... a yum mostly becuase they are flavored but i have begun to try and expand and this past weekend i caught fish on everything i had...crankbaits, spinners, top waters, worms
  4. haha squid i know what you are talking about...firecrackers and even batting practice with the smaller fish and paddles.... i'm sure they didn't feel a thing
  5. i've fished in a chilly rain and i caught just as much as i did on any sunny day
  6. yeah now it's just funny cause i can say that i stabbed him
  7. when it's happened i have been using plastic worms and i think it's because i have been putting the hook down a little too far. i'll just cut the line from now on but i'll try and keep the hook higher
  8. there has been a couple of times where the bass has swallowed the better portion of the hook... what should i do at this point? should i just rip it out and let the fish heal or cut the line and see if the hook will work itself out?
  9. any bass clubs in Austin?
  10. if there are people on the lake driving by and i'm fishing on docks or on the bank...is it disruptive and should i find a quieter spot...i know it probably just makes sense to find a quiet spot but they are limited from the bank
  11. what a life...fishing every day wish i could do that...just can't wait til this summer
  12. best large mouth is 5.5 lbs. it was my first fish of this season and it was awesome
  13. us youngun's like to keep it simple with a jon boat
  14. i have a lucky hat and sometimes i'm just feeling lucky but besides that it's raw skill...that's my opinion at least
  15. just thought i'd share that with everyone, and moral of the story don't tie off a wound and watch out where you fling your knife
  16. My friends and i were out on the local golf course yesterday right after a large storm had scared all the golfers away. The storm had passed so a few persistent golfers came back out to play. As we are standing around this pond one of the golfers tees off and smacks one of my buddies right in the ***. we thought he was kidding til he showed us the bright red circle on his rear. so after that we are watching and listening for the other golfers to tee off and i'm tending to my lure and cutting off some line so i flick open my pocket knife and it slips out of my hand and stabs the same friend, who got hit with the golf ball, right in the calf muscle. it didn't look so bad at first b/c it wasn't bleeding too bad because he was sitting down. But when he stood up the blood just started gushing and as we wiped away some of the blood you could see that it was a pretty deep cut. so being without medical degrees and having watched a lot of movies we thought it would be smart to tie something tight around his leg to stop the bleeding. well after we got to the hospital we learned that tying something around his leg was the worst thing we could have done b/c it kills tissue and the blood becomes poison. he ended up getting two stitches and a nasty long needle stuck in him. I had to sit there and watch him get that shot and those stitches but hey what are friends for...i stabbed him so i guess it would only make sense that i make sure he gets sewed up good
  17. those are both great stories... yeah definitely get your son started early...he will thank you later in life, i just wish i had started earlier
  18. hahaha can't imagine much better a feeling, but thanks Hookem
  19. take your kids fishing, even if you are tired or hungover (haha) or whatever it might be, make time because my dad and i have developed a relationship that would not have been possible had he not taken me hunting and fishing. being with "just the boys" out in the country or out on the water is what we need these days in place of the computer games and video games and tv.
  20. By being 17 i meant that i'm limited in expenses
  21. being 17 i'm limited to the bank but i'm trying to get some friends interested in buying a cheap jon boat, but so far the bank has done pretty well but i haven't fished much big water
  22. anyone else have any "beginner's luck" (as some might call it) stories?
  23. no way i threw that bad boy back... give my friends and I an excuse to get back out there, the hope of catching the BIG ONE again
  24. Two weekends ago i went out to my ranch and it was pouring rain but i still went fishing in the small creek that runs through our property. I caught about six 1-2 pound bass which was a lot of fun. then, Yesterday my dad and brothers and i went out to the ranch again to do some work and i thought i'd bring along my pole just in case i got the chance to get some casts in. When my dad decided to take a break i headed straight for the water. With a few casts with a spinner bait i had caught two small ones and a couple perch, then i changed to a Texas rigged worm and i could see this 2-3 pound bass looking at my worm in the water, then out of no where this HUGE dark cloud swoops down and my lure disappears. This huge dark cloud was a 6 pound bass. I started screaming and hollerin my dad said he thought i was drowning. I had no idea there was a fish this size in our creek...it was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. now i'm just fishing waiting for that next big one, that next big adrenaline rush.
  25. hope it works out for you and helps you catch some fish
