  1. Just do it, bypass the pump before it fails and the motor locks up. Ask me how I know.
  2. I have seen spawing activity as early as feb. and as late as june locally. I have also seen just a few times, fish that were clearly on beds in the fall.
  3. It's a slot lake, under 16" or 24 or bigger. I fished a T there last year and the guy I drew had some 8" bass that were swimming back and forth through the holes in the divider in my livewell.
  4. IMHO, bass will eat just about anything. Here's a funny story from a tourney I fished on Texoma. It was dead hot, no breeze, and the bass were not biting. Was fishing a dock when a kid on the dock pulled a stringer of bass out of the water and headed up the hill. Of course I commented to him on his catch since I had nothing in the box. His reply was that he had run out of hotdogs and was headed back to the cabin to get more.
  5. Bring it!! Can't wait to hear about it!!
  6. Fish aggressively because the fish will be be feeding that way. CB, SB, buzz a frog if there is grass.
  7. Chunk rock to gravel, concrete edge such as a dam or abutment, current to eddy
  8. For me, the light weight of the core is the selling point. I don't think it's as smooth as the Curado E's they replaced for me but probably cast as far. Both cast far enought that a reliable hookset with mono or fluoro gets iffy when bit at the end of a long cast. JMHO
  9. My fav feature of the Core 50 is it's weight. It you fish often and have issues with tendonitis these reels help a lot! Can't imagine going back to the 10-12 oz reel days. Ouch!
  10. Yep, the OP's comment about the rocks lined up at the door told me all I needed to know. I've learned the hard way that's the alpha male squatch's way of telling the boys "this is MY b, keep away". When I awoke to the same situation years ago I was advised to move far, far away. It was one of those forks in the road of life, and by standing my ground, set into motion a series of events that I struggle with to this day. Drinking eases the pain and helps me forget but after nearly 40 years you'll never find me without saltpeter cured beef jerky in my hand and skunk musk soaked buffalo hide pants strapped up tight.
  11. Yep, starting to feel it too. I also enjoy a grind at times but not as much as I once did. Last weekend on Sam Rayburn it was 96 and high humidity with ZERO breeze and a poor bite after the first couple of hours. Had me questioning why I do this. The fisherman's friend (Aleve) helps, so does sitting and resting regularly. A good bite or good company or both makes it much easier, at least mentally. An older gentleman I backseated with last year in a tourney traded his Bullet on a toon. I guess the time comes, sooner or later, for all of us.
  12. As a follow up, there was a strong early bite fishing anything that could be pulled through vegitation. The bite was fair a little later in the morning switching to c rig on flats in 12-20" adjacent to the river channel. Once the sun was up high it became fairly difficult to get bit at any depth althought there were fish schooling on the surface at times. Caught zip fishing humps and points on the main lake. 24 anglers from my club fished 2 days. Three biggest fish were under 6 pounds and all came shallow.
  13. Never had that happen on a bass but I did hit one so hard once that it turned him inside out. Reached thru his mouth and grabbed his tail then gave him a pop like a tube sock. Watched him swim away, no bull
  14. Gent's I'm headed to Rayburn this weekend to fish as a non boater in my club tourney. I've only fished this lake a couple times and that was 2 years ago when the water was low. I've not found much for current reports on the www so I thought I'd ask here. Not looking for anybody's honey hole since I'm in the back seat but can anyone give me an idea of what to expect when i arrive? Is there any morning topwater bite going on? What water depth, structure/cover, presentation is working right now? Please feel free to reply by private message if you prefer. Thanks for your time, bighead
  15. Thanks for the feedback gents. I guess it doesn't work like the old creepy crawler set I had when I was a kid.
  16. I'd just like to know if it's possible to pour plastisol in a mold and then heat the mold to cure or if it must be heated before pouring. Thanks for your responses.
  17. If you have access to deep water during the summer you MUST throw a DD22. What was probably the best fishing day of my life came at Falcon Lake dragging DD22's through brush on main lake humps. My son and I caught 100+ fish with the majority in the 3-7 pound range and a couple pigs to boot.
  18. X2. The small Yamamoto's work great on the dropshot
  19. Thanks for that Scott F! For the young cats out there, it was hard on dad (or uncle, or grandad, or...) when you grew up and left the nest. After years spent getting you trained, he lost his fishing partner. There is no better way to love your fishing father than to spend a day on the water with him. For me, the countless days spent hanging with buddies long forgotten or chasing the girls I rarely caught all add up to less than one day fishing with my late dad.
  20. Much respect to the guys who can make a living tournament fishing. As much effort as I put into it myself the most I expect in a year is to satisfy my need to compete and win a few bucks. Sometimes it's very few.
  21. I received them, in Dec. as I remember, directly from the mfg so there was no store to easily return them too. Tournaments start in earnst around here in mid Jan. By the time I figured out there was something going on my fishing schedule was pretty booked up. I run tight on numbers of reels keeping only about 10 baitcasters on hand at a time and most are used every week. I've had great luck with SA servicing my reels but they tend to be out 6-10 weeks went sent in. Since the reels are usable, just not as smooth as I expected I chose to live with them until things slow down in the fall.
  22. Straight out of the box my Cores sounded like they had sand in them. I suspect a proper cleaning and regrease would do much good. I'd love to have a few "super tuned", but that will have to wait till the lakes freeze over. Oh wait, they don't freeze over here, lol. I'll prob get another box of them this winter so maybe I can send a few out for service then. Anyway, for me lighter is always better. It's easier on this old elbow and shoulder plus IMO you get better sensitivity.
  23. The Core 50 will do anything you want to do with it and is lighter than the Met. I bought a half dozen Cores and my only gripe is that they are not as smooth as the Curado 50E's they replaced.
