  1. answers Q1) because braid is what was on the rod and it was the only rod i had at the time Q2) one of the rules in my club is 12 lb max and they don't make a 12 lb test power pro. the only way to fish a higher test is to use a leader of 12 or less. which i should have been using. however the line just seems to break easy for some reason. read on at bottom of this post. Q3) no it was not knicked up. it was and still is new. i have yet to catch a fish with this line. it HAS NOT BEEN THROUGH ANY TYPE OF HEAVE COVER THAT DAMAGES LINE. AT ALL. PERIOD.... I HAVE BEEN USING BRAID SINCE SPIDERWIRE CAME OUT MANY YEARS AGO AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. EVER. Q4) i use the knot tier because i like it. i have been using it for years and have never had line failures like this before. do some research on the tool and you will find that it ties a very strong knot i took some of the line off of the reel today and tested it the old fashioned way..... with my hands.... it broke like silly string..... i then compared it to some regular stren original the same way and it was much more difficult to break........ i now have some 30 lb power pro i purchased somewhere else using the same rod, reel, and KNOT, and is has not failed me. i stuck a 4lb 8ozer from the local dink hole today also with the new line using a red and black crawbug. by the way i never thought about the ultrathin cutting my guides... thanks for the tip
  2. ok let me add some more info. after i wind in what is left of my line it is all frayed and does not always break at the knot. i was lucke enough that it broke with enough line left floating that i was able to retrieve my buzzbait only to lose it yesterday....... throwin a white heart buzzer. daiwa tierra baitcaster (brand new from bps in myrtle beach)bps pro qualifier medium action rod. my buzzer landed perfectly where i wanted it and i started my retrieve. a few seconds later, bam!!! a bass hits my buzz, goes down with it, and i watch my line go limp without even attempting to set the hook. now before all you smarties get to sayin this and that. i watched the bass swim away, and my buzz sink and without its tether. the knot i use is tied with the fast tie knot tier. i have conducted my own test and it has performed as well as any other knot out there, some times better. also the line came back all frayed up again. i read an article about lines the other day somewhere that said some times the heat in the warehouse or back rooms at some major retailers can have this type odd detrimental effect on fishing line. imj thinking this might be the case. either way am going to try a higher test from a different store and see what happens.
  3. i just got some power pro fishing line the other day and i have concluded that a wasted my 13 smacks on a very fancy package and little else. > it is 10lb green. i will say that it casts great but breaks easier than silly string. i have lost a couple nice lure due to this. > three times i have had a strike and when i went to set the hook......... nothing there at all. :-? i never even felt the break . it was like i had no line on the reel at all and just whipped the rod in the air foe the hell of it. :-[ i really like braid and i like the price point of power pro but it is useless if you cant catch fish with it. i might go with a higher test and try that. what do you think about this
  4. i had a revo sx and also just returned it to bps different problem though. the backlash control didnt work. i have no problems with any of my other baitsasters. i have a brand new daiwa tierra ($30 cheaper) that i love and casts smooth and as far every time. ;D
  5. i dont catfish at all but my friend says WD-40 is like magic. however i question the environmental issues with this on my bait. he also says that ivory soap works well. this sounds like a pile of $hit to me but he says is works........................................
  6. isnt that why they make spinnerbaits
  7. several of the newer bps brand reels now have and externally adjustable centrifigal brake. some people in this site may question the quality of bps brand reels but i have a bps prolite and it casts just as good as my new daiwa tierra, maybe even better
  8. daiwa also has a tierra baitcaster now. just hit the sheves this week.(according to the guy at BPS) i got it for $119. i made a couple throws in the yard last night and it seems great so far. much better backlash control than the revo sx i just got last week
  9. here is what you got. the recoil guides will bend if you step on then or some other way of breaking a guide off of a rod. all it is, is a piece of coiled wire on the blank that can facilitate bending and not breaking like a spring. hence you have recoil guides. they do not have the insert like most other guides because the insert isnt usually flexible. the hardness is what gives them the ability to create less and less friction on your line as you cast. if your guide inserts were soft and flexible the line would cut into them when under a load. if you are rough on your gear then the recoil guides mat be your best choice. if not then then the regular one will be fine and quieter like mech said. aside from that the morris line of rods are just as good as any other high end rod and are a bargain when compared to loomis and others
  10. simple business answer......... why charge $100 for something that people are willing to pay $200 for
  11. ten bucks might be alot for a small plastic cap but you arent using a cheap reel either. it might be worth it to just suck it up and buy the cap. then give your buddy a big guilt trip about how much it cost to replace it :'( maybe he will help you pay for it....... 8-) by the way you wont find a nut to replace it at any hardware store, the threads are not the same. not even close. trying different sizes will damage the threads because they are made of either plastic or maybe aluminum. not steel. then your reel will be useless :-[. wouldnt you be embarrased if you had to spnd 60 or 70 smacks on a new reel or more just because you didnt want to buy a 10 dollar cap........
  12. ive had eva and cork. cork is my favorite. it seems to transmit a better feel then the eva foam. but thats just my $.02
  13. rapala makes one for 20 bucks you can get ay wal-mart. its digital and seems to be pretty accurate. it does have a big hook that easily slides in the gills. the gills are the best place to weigh a fish anyhow because it keeps the fish from floppin off.
  14. BPS pro qualifier $119 but go on sale about twice a yeaqr
  15. my normal line of choice for a few yeary now has been fireline smoke 10 lb and 8 lb. i just got a few new spools from bps and it doesnt seem to have any strength. i cast a WIEGHTLESS 5in senko on a #4 hook, and just the casting stress broke the line. > it was fresh line that had never been used. it was not the knot because i could see a few feet of my line trailing in the distance, as my last senko went flying away to that place where all things are lost and never found. then yesterday i lost my favorite pop-r as a small bass hit it. i never even felt a tug on the line before my popr was gone. :'( line blowin in the wind................ whats up with the fireline......... i may have to switch to power pro
  16. if you only target industrial property then you are asking for even more trouble. they have powerful lawyers and sometimes they have security, sometimes armed security. as for you who fish on federal property you are asking for so much trouble the people at websters are going to put your picture beside the word in their next dictionary. GO BUY A BOAT. YOU CAN GET THEM CHEAP SOMETIMESyou can even build you own with two innertubes, two pallets, two 2x4's and a lawn chair if money is that tight. success will lead you to complecency and complacency leads to mistakes. you already have their attention now
  17. the paintball gun is a "VERY VERY BAD IDEA" paintball guns are designed to be used in a game, not for defending yourself.... there are ALOT of people that think that paintball guns are weapons and want them banned everywhere. please dont go do something stupid and shoot someone with a paintball gun that is not wearing a paintball mask. the last thing you would want is to shoot someone in the eye ear or mouth with a paintball gun and injure that person.(even if he deserves it) it leaves a very bad image on the sport and the game of paintball. there are many counties in the U.S.A. and many countries around the world that have banned the use and sale of paintball guns. for those of us that enjoy the game please dont be stupid and ruin it for us........ there are many companies that make self defense items that would suit your needs and a paintball marker is not one of them
  18. how would you like it if you spent hundreds or thousands of dollars digging out a pond and having it stocked with bass and blugills. taking years of feeding and nuturing all the time so you can have your own little piece of nature only to some some stupid punk come and catch all your fish at night while your were asleep. let me guess you probably dont tell your other friends about " YOUR " secret honey holes because you dont want then to fish in those places even though they dont belong to you. i you think it is a rush fishing this way then just imagine what kind of adrenaline rush you will get as bullets are wizzing over your head. it is quite the rush as i have experienced this unusual phenomena, however i do not have a great desire to do it again......... if you want to fish a private pond find out who owns it and ask.. if they say no you may be able to find friends of the owner that can persuade them to let you fish. this has worked for me as i now have exclusive rights to fish one of the best bass ponds aroud here and i can even bring a friend but only one. however my friends cannot fish there unless i am with them..... if you promise to leave the place clean, not to take any fish (unless the owner wants one for himself) and dont bring a bunch of people he may let you fish
  19. i prefer spots inshore and dolphin off shore..... i always love goin to the intracoastal waterway to find a bunch of vacationers out fishing. i usually ask them if they are catching anything and i usually get this response " hell hea, weve been catching spots all day long here you wanna look atem" they then proceed to reveal an impressive catch of pinfish..........lol........... then i say yup those are some nice ones and walk away with a smile
  20. i use red hooks all the time and i always have had success with them. it is a very rare occasion that i get skunked on the water. as you can see by my record below i have done pretty well with these red hooks.......there isnt very much water more than 15 ft near me
  21. if only he could do that with a baitcaster.........................................................................
  22. click the link on this one i have it and it works great on both spinning and casting. bps has it on sale now for around 20 smacks. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_13313_100010001_100000000_100010000_100-10-1 if you want to use a drill go to home depot or lowes and get a piece of dowel rod size it to fit your abblication and presto, tou have a dewalt or whatever line winder
  23. never used them myself but i have been thinking about tryin some. now im glad that i havent. i usually use either eagle claw red wide gaps or owners and i have never had a problem with either of these hooks. dont forget that you can buy most of the hooks that they sell in a bulk pack, instead of just 3 or 4 at a time
  24. try a 3 in senko. they are very small. use light line
  25. i aslo live in holden beach nc and have lived here my whole life i can tell you were the fish are and where they arent. i can also tell you how to catch fish in the pond near you....... i have fished every pond around here in every development around..... you dont have to answer if you dont want to but what is the name of the development you live in?
