  1. The Cumara is an obvious fit as a worm & jig rod. Would the Avid AS66MHF be sufficient? The biggest advantage I see to the Avid is that it would give me a good reference for future rod searchs. Did you notice that TackleTour raved about the Cumara and rated it a best buy, but still gave it a mediocre score?
  2. For only a couple hours a week of shore fishing, do you feel it is worth leaving the $100 to $150 range to go up to the Cumara? The TackleTour review on the Cumara (plus Burley's teasing posts) is part of the reason I'm thinking about taking the pry bar to my wallet. BTW Nice Pictures of the Carrot and the Core.
  3. I'm looking for a Worm & Jig Setup, but I only will only get out occassionally and I'm not sure I'll develop the "feel" to justify Loomis IMX or GLX. My wallet tells me to take the Stradic FH from my MF rod, but the Revo AllStar/Fenwick rebate makes a combo with the Revo S (LH) look pretty appealing. On the upper end, I'm intrigued by the Cumara, but probably only for spinning. I presume that the Avid (if still available) and Crucial are the obvious candidates in the $100 to $200 range. Is there a minimum level of quality, or one that is excessive for my casual need? My not so short list is below (sorted by best price found) Cabelas XML XCLS665-1 AllStar ASR 7'2' MHF ASR866C Fenwick® HMG GS 66MH Fenwick® HMG GT 66MH Shimano Crucial CRS-66MH Shimano Crucial CRC-66MH St Croix Avid AS66MHF St Croix Avid AC66MHF AllStar Platinum 6'6" MHF 786C e21 Carrot Stix LTX CLTX691MH-C e21 Carrot Stix LTX CLTX731MH-S Fenwick AVS66MHF Techna AV Shimano Cumara CUS68MH Shimano Cumara CUC68MH Thanks, Leon
  4. How much do you get for Avatar sponsorships? Maybe I should get creative with mine
  5. My In-Laws are always telling me the same thing Of course to keep my gear consistent, I could just move the cranks on all of my spinning reels to the right hand side. Then RH baitcasting would be no problem ;D
  6. Thanks Burley, but I haven't been able to find a Citica 101DSV yet :) If I had more coordination :-?, I'd just keep the 200B. However, with the $50 rebate the Curado 101D is looking more attainable Of course my other option is to put my Stradic FH on a Cumara like the one you've been teasing us with.
  7. Thanks for the insight Flechero
  8. Thanks, that's what I thought about the size. Cheers
  9. Thanks, size-wise how do they feel? I'd rather not go up in size...
  10. I have 15-20 hours experience with the Curado 200B, but found that I would prefer a left hand model. Not intending to start a REVO vs Citica debate (we're not talking Carrot Stix ), I'm interested in seeing how these two reels compare to the Curado 200B on their respective merits. Thanks! Leon
  11. Mine is MI66MS-2 BPS number: 38-140-238-00 1 piece version is: 38-140-240-00
  12. The Midas rod is a huge step up in from the Extreme. However, I didn't get to fish it all that much last year. Mine appears to be well made. If it is the same rod I have, the rod is probably worth $90 by itself. Cheers
  13. It seems that those who use the Cabelas XML are big fans of it. Is the action of the MH rod (either casting or spinning) suitable for worms & jigs. How about the new MagTouch than looks like a Lamiglass. Thanks! Leon
  14. Thanks for the additional input. The concensus seem more balanced now.
  15. Thanks for the input. So far it sounds as though discomfort is a greater factor than the perceived benefits. I guess I shouldn't disqualify a rod for consideration because it doesn't have a split grip. Cheers
  16. I know where you're coming from. Last year I picked up a Curado 200B. It was fun casting, but I was always distracted by having to crank with my right hand. At first I was going to trade the Curado towards a high end spinning rod, but now I'm thinking I might try a LH Baitcaster. I think my decision will depend upon which way the wind is blowing
  17. Interesting question. However I've been wondering 2 reels for 3 or 4 rods? My intent has been to put different lines on the different spools, but have not needed to yet... Cheers
  18. The current thread about splitting grips leads to a question for relative novices like me. What are the facts and myths about split grips? - Less Weight (i.e. to what degree)? - Better Balance? - Increased Sensitivity? - Better/Worse Handling (Medium-sized hands in my case)? - Weakens Structural Integrity? - Other For example, are there be any meaningful differences in AllStar's IM10 TAS and ASR Rods? (without experience and the ability to handle them in person, it's hard for me to determine a personal preference ) Thanks!
  19. Thanks ww2farmer, another great insight. You always provide a great perspective with practical advice.
  20. Thanks Micro, it sounds like the decison is all mine now. If I don't take the easy way out and go the Spinning route, a Revo S and AllStar ASR will be hard to beat while the rebate is going on. The Bait Monkey may think otherwise, though ;D Have Fun!
  21. Thanks for the great responses - you provided the info I was seeking. I guess my decision would be S or SX. Control Now for Novice (S) vs. Distance with Light Lures (SX) Can you confirm that the SC from Cabelas has a Magnetic Brake, the published info says it has a Centifugal Brake, but all of the user reviews say it has a Magnetic Brake. Also, I did not see a LH version listed for the SC. Thanks!!
  22. Congratulations Sounds like a great combo. Cheers!
  23. Thanks smcentee, since I am just a casual fisherman, your level of experience is perfect for the feedback I was seeking. My skills and sensitivities are not that fine tuned... At least I don't feel so compelled to run out for the Cumara, although it does look great. The L&T and Carrot Stix (along with AllStar ASR and Crucial) are in the range that are probably more suitable to my needs (Wallet )I'm glad to hear that you think they are better Values compared to the more expensive Cumara. Cheers!!
  24. I think I understand the technical differences between the various Revo models, but I'm trying to discern what the tradeoffs would be for a novice like me. I have about 15 hours experience with the old Curado 200B. I'm looking for a LH alternative. Centifugal Brakes (S) vs Linear Magnetic (SX): - which is more for giving - which casts lighter lures better - which casts further - convenience of changing settings I presume that the Centifugal might be more forgiving. As a casual fisherman with limited time to "educate my thumb," is it still a good long-term investment to get a reel with Magnetic braking. I've heard the SX braking is not as refined as the Daiwa Mag braking. Infini Spool & Everslik coatings - Would these STX enhancements be meaningfully noticed by a casual fisherman, of is the SX sufficient? I would like to throw some lighter jigs & lures. Daiwa Advantage HSTA - how would it compare for use a novice/casual user? Sorry if my questions are redundant to the other threads, but these are the key issues I'm trying to resolve. Sort of a cost/benefits analysis. Thanks!
