  1. Looking for a versatile heavy or extra heavy rod to complete my arsenal. Currently my most stout rod is a nrx 873crr, figured I'd get one rod more suited for frogs and punching . Budget would be 350ish. If I'm thinking correctly it would get the most use as a frog rod.I'm fishing out of a kayak and for me 7'5" would be the longest id feel comfortable with. Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
  2. Wondering if anyone owns this rod. Recently bought the 7'3" mh and i love it for swim jigs and chatterbaits. Looking for a rod that could dual purpose up to 1oz punching and be decent frog rod. I realize many would use 2 different rods but i kayak fish so I'm trying to minimize how many combos i bring. Thanks . Also open to other suggestions around the same price point.
  3. I have 1 of them as well, with 4 broadcasters its great, but i want to hold 3 baitcaster and a spinning setup and you really have to force the zipper because of the spinning reel.
  4. Does anyone know of a carrying bag capable of holding 4 combos, 1 of them will be a spinning setup so that will require a bit more room at the handle end. Would like it to be at least 7'6". Haven't really had much like finding this online. Thanks
  5. I learned on a daiwa tatula ct and i found it to be a pretty easy process spooled with 12lb trilene xl. 129$. It's now my wife's first baitcaster. Solid reel for the price.
  6. I would use suffix 832 30lb, 40 lb also fine. For chatterbaits id tie a 12lb mono leader for just a little shock absorption which might give the fish a better opportunity to grab the bait. Also i learned baitcasting a couple years ago and tried big game which people on here seem to love but it's just too stiff for anything other than a leader in my opinion. For a decent price and handling id suggest trilene xl 12lb. This is my personal opinion I'm certainly not saying what others suggest won't work well.
  7. Personally don't like the dc whine, but you could get a chronarch mgl for about 223$ currently on Joe's sporting goods website. I bought 2 this year and like them very much. You will also like the tatula you have on the way, i have one of those as well.
  8. Wondering if this would work well as a frog rod that doubles as punching rod in Minnesota cover. I've never owned a heavy rod or have done much punching but it looks fun. If anyone owns the rod what dio you use it for? Thanks
  9. Last year switched to braid to leader. I use 30lb suffix 832 to a 10=12 lb mono leader mostly trilene xl. I personally like it way more than straight fluoro or mono but i think a more parabolic rod would get me to use fluoro leader.
  10. If things get closed I feel it will be due to the non boaters hanging out in parks like nothing is going on. Personally observed this at two metro lakes as well as hidden falls park and it concerns me. Boaters and kayakers I've seen load up and go giving the next person plenty of room. I read that he thought people were doing a good job distancing except at parks/ trails so i imagine access points would just get lumped in there.
  11. I prefer fast reels for everything but that should work well for single hook moving baits. I definitely prefer higher speed for Texas rig although my first year bass fishing i caught plenty on a pflueger president spinning reel as i only had 1 setup to throw everything.
  12. Some good suggestions above. Going braid to leader in spinning was one of the best suggestions that i wish i didn't put off so long. The ease of handling and improved sensitivity not to mention better long distance hook sets was dramatic to me. I actually like my 3000 size reel the best and if you go braid get a good 8 strand braid like suffix 832 for example. It casts much better. Specific suggestion..St. Croix mojo bass 7'1" medium, shimano nasci 3000 size.
  13. For weightless, tatula elite ags 7'1" medium and tatula lt 3000 size spinning. For most other soft plastic mostly Texas rig loomis nrx 873crr paired with a tatula sv. Props on the bunnies above me. Happy holidays everyone. Stay safe.
  14. Cool thanks for the info. Might be my next upgrade.
  15. Does anyone own this? Wondering how good this would be for swim jigs and chatterbaits. Seems like the action would be more to my liking then my expride for moving baits. Curious what others use it for, never owned a regular fast unless it's just another term for moderate fast.
  16. Thanks, had some time before work and decided to go to the empty park near me and figure it out lol. I went with 2 on 2 off and dial at 3 and started chucking a frog. Seems to cast pretty nice, could maybe dial it back a touch but ill experiment more on the water hopefully next weekend!
  17. Bought two but haven't used them yet. They are my first reels with internal brakes and I'm having trouble finding info on what most people set the internal brakes to. The couple videos i watched they had them set to 2. Curious what you guys typically set them. Thanks everyone.
  18. Thank you for the suggestion.
  19. Just wanted to give some props in case anyone else was looking for a rod. Maybe i crossed some line? I better re read the rules sorry wrb.
  20. Bought this rod from Stephen b. Excellent transaction, rod was shipped promptly and was packaged extremely well.
  21. Wisconsin also states you can do outdoor activity as long as you practice social distancing.
  22. If i was starting out i would buy a pflueger president spinning reel size 30 and maybe a7 foot medium fast tatula xt. Grab some trilene xl 10lb mono and figure out what techniques you want to do and buy some tackle. Going forward when and if you decide to get into a baitcaster id suggest the lower priced daiwa tatula. My next suggestion when you decide to upgrade as money allows invest more in the rod than the reel if you have to choose between the two. Good luck
  23. Sounds right to me. Recently got some chronarch mgl's and i spooled them what i thought was the same as my tatulas and had the same thing happen. Removed some line and the resistance is gone.
