Ditches
I want to learn about the topic of ditches. Are ditches the same as shallow creek channels? What defines a ditch?

Pickwick is about 45 minutes from me. I have around 10 other lakes within an hour in different directions.

1990 Lowe Commander 170 Hatches Full Of Water
Thanks! Should the area under the hatch box be open? In other words I won't drill a hole in the bottom of the boat will I?

1990 Lowe Commander 170 Hatches Full Of Water
Ok. Thanks. I will seal the corners. The trough doesn't drain anywhere. It just fills up. There is no drain in it. The hatch box is open under the trough so a drain can't be drilled.

1990 Lowe Commander 170 Hatches Full Of Water
It's coming in around the lid. No water in bilge. This is with the boat out of the water, trailered. The photo here is what I used on the hatch edges as shown above. Anything bigger and the hatch won't close. Would the kind of weatherstripping with the bulb on top work (do you think)? Like this?

1990 Lowe Commander 170 Hatches Full Of Water
As the subject says, I have a 1990 Lowe Commander 170 and all of the hatches take on a lot of water in the rain. I have put weatherstripping on the edges (adding photo of edges). Is there anything that can be done to this to stop this? Every time it rains, I have to take everything out of the boat and dry it off and vacuum out the hatches with a wet/dry vac. Thanks in advance for any help! I just realized I had already asked this last year. Sorry for the copy. Maybe someone will different answers.

Yo, I'm Thoreau. How 'bout you?
I've definitely complicated it and I am catching fewer fish for it. I used to fish out of a 14 foot jon boat decked out and a cheap little fish finder that basically was good for depth. I was fishing a small lake (200 acres) and catching all the fish I wanted to every time I went. I moved to a bass boat and medium level electronics and started fishing Pickwick (33,000 acres) because I lost access to the small lake. Now I am lucky to catch three or four fish on a good outing and the electronics do very little for me. I am now have a 1990 Lowe Commander 170. It is a small bass boat with a flat bottom. It hasn't seen the water yet due to some bad circumstances. However, come Spring, I hope to get back to catching fish again by learning about using my electronics to fish offshore. If I still had the small lake to fish, I'd buy a jon boat and get back to doing that some again. But as it is, I will learn and grow being more complicated.

I feel like the outlier at Bass Resource because I just don't know.
I'm with you. I have decent electronics and I need to learn how to use them properly. I've never been one to go out and drive around for a long time looking. I just go straight to fishing. My biggest weakness is off shore fishing. I desperately need to find a good guide to teach me how to fish off shore, using my electronics to find fish and catch them once I find them. I study maps til I am blue in the face and then get out on the water and it all looks the same off shore and I am intimidated into just bank beating. I am used to fishing a small (200 acre) private lake that I know every good spot on. I lost access to that lake and now I am trying to fish Pickwick Lake (33,000 acres).

Boat Hatch Weatherstripping
There are not drains. I don't understand why they don't put those. I hoped this would make it better than it is currently. I wonder if I could drill a small hole? Would that drain into the bottom of the boat and to the bilge?

How about this product? Boat Hatch Weatherstripping
The photo is rotated. Let me repost. I'm talking about going over the sheet metal lip around the top of the hatch (beige).

New (to me) Boat
Already done. LOL! Actually, we are a 1 vehicle family. My wife wanted a Subaru Ascent. I pulled my Stratos with it occasionally. It did fine. It has a 5000 lbs towing capacity.

Boat Hatch Weatherstripping
Can anybody tell me if the trim in the photo is the right kind for a hatch made like the other photo? The rim height is about 1/8". What height trim should I be looking for - 3/8" or 1/4"?

New (to me) Boat
Had to get rid of my Stratos. The transom was rotting and I couldn't spend $7K to get it fixed. So I sold it and bought a 1990 Lowe Commander 170 aluminum bass boat. Looking forward to being able to fish some skinnier water for a change.
