  1. Sorry, I wasn't even thinking about it. I didn't sleep at all last night waiting for the trout stocking today.
  2. You could, but might be a little too heavy of a combo, depending on your preference, if you're going to throw it a lot. Tatula SV is 6.7 oz vs 7.9 of Catalina and DC 734 weighs about 5.2 oz. I have the Catalina on the Xtasy 755, but it's a slightly lighter rod and used specifically for jigs, so I probably won't be throwing it as much as a more versatile rod like the 734. Daiwa Coastal SV is another sweet looking reel on a Champion.
  3. No, I haven't used the new Tatula SV yet. I have the Tatula 100, Tatula CT Type-R & Catalina TW in LH. The SLX XT, SLX DC, & SLX MGL 70 in RH. I'm trying to decide between the Tatula SV TW 103 or the SLX DC 70 right now.
  4. Caught some rainbow trout this morning and had it for lunch. First time eating them and they were pretty good, Crappie is still my favorite, but I haven't tried Walleye yet. Was using a 1/64th oz trout magnet and St.Croix Panfish rod 6'9 UL. It was freezing out, literally, my guides had ice on them.
  5. Thanks, they look good with the other 8 I've bought in the last 6 months. ?
  6. It's pretty easy to enjoy nature out on a small river in a kayak regardless of catching fish or not. When I'm bank fishing it just depends on the time of year and the body of water I'm fishing. There are some times when I pretty much know I'm not going to catch anything, but I just want to get out and get some practice in with some new rods, reels, or techniques. And at the very least, I'm getting in some exercise. Maybe after I've been fishing for a decade(s) like some of you, I might feel differently. I still even enjoy catching the dinks.
  7. I probably like Shimano reels better for their quality, but I do like the way Lew's reels fit in my palm. At first I didn't love my DC reel, but the more I use it the more I love it, especially if fishing into wind.
  8. 2018 Abu Garcia Black Max - I put it through the ringer for the past 2 seasons by taking it kayaking on the river with no reel cover. At the end of last season, one side of the thumb bar came loose and I had to super glue it, and it has became a little geary, but still works. It's also scuffed up pretty bad, I've been thinking of using it to test out hydro dipping a reel. I have since bought 14 more baitcasters though. ?
  9. I thought this was going to be about casting 100 yds., but I'd rather do what you did anytime. WTG!
  10. I like the whole series of Daiwa LT spinning reels. If I had to pick one under $100 it would probably be the Legalise.
  11. I have the 7'2 MH/XF & the 7'5 H/F, actually just sold the 7'2 the other day. Both are really light on the scales, just not balanced good. I wondered about the 6'10 version and the Medium versions though. If they are balanced, they would be great rods for the price, unfortunately they didn't have them available when I purchased the combo deals. I tried putting my heaviest reels on them which were 7.9 oz, and it didn't make much of a difference, and I didn't want to go any heavier, kinda of defeats the purpose of light rods.
  12. SLX XT, DC, MGL are all nice reels. I would personally pass on a SLX rod because of the balance on them and sounds like you will mostly be fishing tip up. You could always buy the combo and sell the rod to get the reel cheaper though, that's what I did.
  13. Another thing between the SLX and Fury is the warranty difference. The wrapping on my SLX says one year warranty, probably with a receipt from an authorized dealer. The Fury has a lifetime warranty with a replacement fee, unless it was a manufacturing defect, then it's free. All you need is the logo section of the rod, no receipt needed.
  14. The SLX will be a little lighter, but the Fury is way better balanced, and actually feels lighter in hand.
  15. Sign up for the Fed Ex app and it will notify you of any shipments coming to your address. They are trying to get all the orders out by Friday. A little heads up though, if you ordered an Extreme HP, you might be getting an email stating that they are sold out, depending on what model you ordered. I seen someone who ordered I believe a 746c well over a week ago, and just now got told it was sold out. A lot of other DX models are sold out as well.
  16. This is what kind of irks me, most people who keep every bass they catch, uses the same old blanketed excuse that they are getting rid of dinks to help grow bigger fish, as if they know the status of that specific water, which most have no clue. I completely understand the need to cull fisheries at times, but those big fish will obviously eat some of those dinks.
  17. Ahh, didn't even think of that one. There are tons of small bluegill in there, not sure why it would go after that big of a bass, I guess just stupidity if that's the case. I see at least a couple small dead gills floating up by the bank the last handful of times I've been there due to the cold water, I would think they would get eaten, but they go untouched. That place has tons of frogs also that have been active lately and it's not a very big place.
  18. Found this poor thing on the bank of a pond that I fish at. My guess would be that it came up shallow to eat the smaller bass and a rodent or something grabbed it. I have seen a mink there once, the only time I have ever seen one, but there're also some big birds that go back there. It bummed me out a little, I'm sure I caught that fish before and was looking forward to trying to catch it again this year, but as long as it was nature and not some ignorant fisherman.
  19. Just got back not along ago from the water and casting the reel some more, and I had a little wind but not much. I was casting directly into it though and I had no backlashes the entire time and was able to back off the brakes to half way and might of been able to go more. I do believe the problem was too much line on the spool, and I don't think it was because I necessarily put too much line on. I think somehow it got more bunched up in the middle after fishing for it for a month or so, because as I said, I had no problems with at first. My only explanation is that I got a backlash one time and pulled out a bunch of line and when reeling it back in, I might of held the line to close to the reel, not allowing it to spread to the sides. Does that sound like it could of been the problem? I still won't feel totally comfortably with it until I fish with it a few more times, just to make sure. Thanks again for all the help!
  20. It's always been on a Fury 703c. PM me for me paypal address. ?
  21. Thanks, I was ignorant to this. I've only owned a Black Max and Pro Max my first two seasons of fishing and now have about 10+ more reels and realize that there's a lot I still don't know about them. Not sure what position is on or off yet, but I'm sure I can look that up. One thing I did notice when pull off the side plate for the first time, is that my magnets have red dots that almost look like red marker on the middle magnet and the two outer ones, not sure why though? I think the problem may have been from me over spooling the line, when I tried to pull the spool out, it wouldn't come out because I had too much line on it, so I had to take some off just to get it out. I did put some oil on the bearing pictured above and on the other side of the spool, but haven't opened up the inside of the reel yet. Hopefully the problem was from me just having too much line on it. I'm used to trying to put as much line on the spool as I can because I only had one ore two setups and would cut the line to change lures a lot, but now I don't need to because I have over 20 rods. I will probably take it out in a little bit and test it out, thanks for your help and to everyone else who chimed in so far.
  22. It's amazing how fast water conditions can change on the water without warning, even if you pay attention to the weather forecast. I took the kayak out yesterday for the first time and when I first got out on the water it was hot and beautiful out with little wind, and as soon as I got on the other side of the lake, the weather changed in an instance. The wind picked up, small white caps developed and it got pretty cold. I immediately started back across and was going directly into the waves, but I'm lucky I got to paddle straight into the waves and not parallel to them. It was the 2nd time something like this happened to me and luckily this wasn't as bad as the first, but the water was much colder this time.
  23. I haven't done anything to it yet, but I just took it out for a bit and there was no wind at all and had no problems, but I did still have the brakes turned all the way up. It still seemed like I was getting decent distance out it, not sure if the brakes are even working correctly if at all. I think this just has the external, but I will be putting some oil in the appropriate places soon.
  24. The first few months I used the Lew's Tournament MB, I rarely had a backlash and got pretty good distance out of it. The last few times I've used it I have gotten several backlashes, even if I turn my brakes all the way up and have the spool tight. It seems like any little wind at all and I get a backlash. I have always had 12# Seaguar InvizX spooled on it, and I sprayed it once with Reelsnot Line Conditioner about a month ago. I have been throwing nothing but a jerkbait with it and its been on the same rod. Any ideas what the problem could be?
