  1. Just fishing grass and not true muck that tends to build up during the summer, a M/H is great for fishing a frog.
  2. Grubs are grubs in my opinion. The tails on most single tail grubs have pretty much just as much action on all the models offered by most brands. So like tubes I tend to not really wish to spend money on big brand names. Big Bites Finesse grubs and Zoom Fat Alberts are cheap and cast just as many fish as models from Yamamoto and Strike King.
  3. Well anything under 3/16ths is a very precarious proposition unless your trailer is pretty bulky. If you just like to throw bitsy bugs and other medium wire hooked jigs, a good Medium or Medium- Heavy spinning rod is the way to go.
  4. I think that demographic would be the most attracted to this type of setup, buttttttttt would someone who would buy a Zebco reel to fish most of the time, spend that much money ever on a setup like this?
  5. Personally I would suggest you get on Ebay and buy a Black Max, which is by far the best entry level baitcasting reel on the market, for 20 bucks and spool it up with 10 lb mono, and fishing that for a summer just to get your feet wet with baitcasting reels. Then go buy your cadillac.
  6. It very much depends on the situation. If Im specifically casting it to tight spaces in my kayak and fishing it fast, I will cast, twitch reel back in after a few seconds if there is no bite. If I'm fishing a grass line, I will cast parallel to the grass line, let it sink to the bottom, twitch, and repeat til I get back to the boat.
  7. I just purchased the 7'3" 13 Fishing Heavy Action casting model from TW. Will update when it arrives. Have a feeling its gonna be a while.
  8. For a chatterbait style jig, you would be surprised how well a Netbait Paca Craw will work. As for swim jigs, I've always had the best luck with a Keitech Fat Impact or Rage Swimmer type.
  9. I've always noticed that fishing rocks can give you a very similar feel from time to time as a fish biting down on a lure. I adapted to this by only setting the hook after I've lost bottom contact. I've had a lot of success with that method.
  10. My advice would be slow down. There are days when fish are very actively feeding, which would allow you to throw a naked hook out and still get bites, but those days are far and few between. Don't make your jig, ned rig, or any other lure look like its having a epileptic seizure on the bottom of the lake, pond, or creek, or burn it through the water column at full speed. The fish aren't gonna bite it usually.
  11. Quantum Smoke S3's, Pfluegers Supreme line, and the Revo X models from Abu are my favorites.
  12. Well since I would probably never find myself spending more than 100 dollars on a rod, the Fenwick HMG line is the best of that group. Its a mid priced workhorse line of rods that have the sensitivity of a rod that should be at least 50 to 70 dollars more expensive.
  13. Dear god it would make me feel ungodly angry as a consumer if I purchased a 250 dollar reel and had to "upgrade" it.
  14. I've broken two rods in my life and both were from trying to get out of a snag, and both times it was me reefing on it that broke it. The only dudes that break rods on hooksets are the guys that high stick constantly, boat flip constantly, or have no idea how to use the drag on their reels. Same goes with guys that constantly lose fish to line breakages.
  15. I've landed more fish on a swim jig, if that qualifies as a sastisfying answer to this question.
  16. One of my favorite Chatterbait trailers is a Netbaits Paca Craw. Anything that puts off a lot of flapping action works really.
  17. I like fishing a Kalins or Zoom grub on a mojo or split shot rig, and just dragging it on the bottom with the tail rigged down so it can stir up the bottom. I cast, let it sit for 10 seconds or so, drag it a foot, let it sit 5 seconds, etc.
  18. BP Speed Shads and Keitech Easy Shiners are the two I use the most.
  19. A thin walled finesse tube, a 4 inch yum dinger, any of the Z-man ned rig baits, and of course a finesse worm of some type always do great for me on a light texas rig with spinning tackle.
  20. It only gets weird when the tongue comes into play.
  21. NDYakangler. One of the few channels on youtube that I can stomach. All killer no filler.
  22. BPS Speed Shads and Strike King Rage Swimmers in the 3 inch size are always good. As for jig heads, a normal run of the mill 1/8 oz to 1/4 oz lead head contingent on amount of current you are dealing with, but if you want to spend a little more money Keitechs Super Round Tungsten jigheads are superb.
  23. 5 inch paddletails, 5 inch stick baits, and topwaters like a Super Spook, tend to catch any predatory fish that likes to set up ambush points around cover. And that goes for freshwater and Saltwater.
  24. All you need to do is put a small split shot above the line tie when wacky rigging, and you get the same fluttering action on the fall for a Dinger or Stick-O that you would with a Senko.
