  1. I don't own any Kast King reels but I do have an Abu Revo, Lewis LFS, and an Abu Black Max. Fishing in the dark, I can't tell which reel is in my hand. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Black Max.
  2. Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. Mine was a Mach II SLP about one month old. Brake dial would turn about 5 clicks and stop. Worked fine when I bought it. I returned it to Field & Stream and swapped it for an Abu Revo X. No problems from the Revo yet and as a bonus, it's definately less finicky dialing in the spool tension and brake. And it seems to cast just as far if not farther.

  4. As a child I lived in Northern Va, right in the city. Dad fished a bunch and I'd go with him whenever he went. At about 10 years old I went to a camp that was on a lake and Dad bought me my own fishing pole, it was 2 tone brown, maybe a zebco 33 or something. Caught a few fish on a bobber at the lake and thought I was doing well. There was a pond about 1/2 a mile from our house and when I got back from camp I hoped on my bike, peddled to the pond, bit on a few split shot, loaded up a night crawler, and gave it the hardest heave I could out toward the middle. That was a learning experience I'll never forget. As that worm sailed into the abyss, so did the forward portion of my two piece rod. Lol -- To this day I still despise two piece rods. That pond was something magical to me as a kid. A couple guys would fish is regularly tossing a 4" ringworm around the grass or hooking a minnow on a bobber. I saw them pull out 3-4 lb four pound bass regularly. I think I caught the bug watching them. I remember one occasion when one of the guys (who'd been fishing a minnow on a bobber for a while) asked me to climb a tree and see if anything was watching his minnow. I climbed the tree, looked, and there was a HUGE bass (for a 10 yo) face to face with his minnow, both of which were motionless. I relayed (shouted) to the guy what was happening, after what seemed like several minutes, the guy tugged on his line a few times causing the minnow to move. Just then the bass engulfed it, the guy hooked it and I saw what I remember as my first good size bass in person. That guy may never know he didn't just hook into a good fish, he also helped hook a kid on bass fishing.
  5. Some butter, a little Old Bay, lemon...mmm..mmm. Good!
  6. I have to admit, I'm a sucker for bargain bin square bills and medium divers. I know I don't want to throw a $6 - $10 crankbait too close to cover and risk snagging it but I have no problem chucking a $1.50 -$3 crank back into a jungle of limbs and rocks. Guess which one catches more fish?
  7. Good news. Thanks for measuring! I was feeling lost for a few days, couldn't find any dimensions for Abu spools/frames...nothing. No response from Abu either. Stinks when the stickers are worn off and can't find any way to identify the real. Even the reel seat was coming back as a 6000 series. I'm thinking, no way this narrow spool is a 6000 series. Anyhow. Thanks everyone. Mystery solved.
  8. Thanks fellas. Followed your suggestion Sam.
  9. Pretty sure. I can see a spot on the worm gear (far right side) that looks a little beat up. It's about a 15-20 yo reel, figure I might as well replace both.
  10. Great resource you guys have developed here. It's good to be a participant. "Tight lines" my friends.
  11. Thanks for the replies fellas! I think I figured it out. Looks like it's a "royal express". Same worm gear and pawl as all the 4000 series.
  12. Hi fellas, First post here, what a great resource. I'm in need of some help, figured you guru's were the place to come. I need to order a worm Gear and Pawl for a round Abu reel but all the identifying stickers are gone. I suspect it's either a 4600 or 5600 series. According to the reel seat, it may even be a 6600, but I don't think it's that wide of a spool. I have a rather simple request for the owners of 4600, 5600, and 6600 owners. Do you mind relaying the inside width of the frame For instance my thumb bar measures 1-1/16" wide from frame to frame. I'm hoping this dimension will help me identify which Pawl and worm Geer item number I need to order.
