  1. Basically, I prefer baitcasters over spinning. I used to only have spinning set ups and could cast them very well. Both distance and accuracy were good. As I started using baitcasters, my spinning game has gone. Question is- is there a BC set up that I can use to throw lighter jigs, jerk baits, and worms? I don't want to go BFS given the premium prices they command. thanks guys.
  2. Is that similar to the Daiwa Revros? the colors look very similar. I have a Revros that I bought in a combo and it seems like the spool area is too shallow and causes tangling around the reel a lot. Not sure if its that or line memory issue.
  3. Did you get the rod? Mine was supposed to ship a few days ago, but got a call saying the last one they had was damaged and now its on backorder
  4. I'm not stuck on YZH, but for the price it seems like a really good option. that info above helps a lot-thanks. Sounds like I should go 4 for spinning (since we go for bluegill a lot too) and 10 on my casting (strictly LMB).
  5. Hi guys, I'm looking for a line that I can put on both our baitcasters and spinning set ups. I'm not ready for braid yet. I was thinking of going with some 6-8 lb Yo zuri hybrid. I mainly fish small ponds and lakes that don't really carry and fish over 5-6 lbs. Thanks!!
  6. Thanks for sharing that. I assume she is hooked on bass fishing. My son, used to lip bass with a towel, now he does it with his hands, admires the fish likes his its PB and releases her. Fishing is an amazing way to bond with a child.
  7. Thanks for that @MN Fisher. I researched them and seems to be really good for the price. Found a deal and ordered the fury to pair up with the slx xt. My son should be one happy camper. Now we just need to find some decent places to fish. haha
  8. I want to buy something today. I was about to pull the trigger on a Daiwa tatula xt and shimano slx reel, but only issue is the tatula rods only come in 7ft. My son is only 4ft 5 so I was thinking a rod in the 6ft 6 area would be a better option so he can handle it better. Thoughts?
  9. Can you be a bit more specific as to the lure you use to do this? I tried it around some tulies with a t rigged senko and kept getting hung up no matter how weedless it was.
  10. My son and I fished a small pond over the weekend. Very shallow as well. I was casting out to the middle where I thought the deepest water is, but I don't think this works in shallow ponds. All the fish we caught or had bites were probably within 5 ft of the shoreline in 2-3 ft of water. I started with a T rigged senko, but switched to a Fat Ika dragging across the bottom and caught a few. Also lost a few since the fat Ika seems harder to set the hook than with other baits. best of luck.
  11. I have a dc as my first baitcaster. It can still backlash with the best of them. Ive gotten pretty good with it now so cant say for sure it makes a lot of difference. Its not dummy proof. I’ve also tried my son’s abu garcia and can cast it just as good now.
  12. Do jigs work well in open water and ponds or designed better to work pitching near structure?
  13. Welcome! I just learned of the Bait Monkey myself. LOL!!
  14. great advice there. Glenn mentions concentrating more in deep waters so I have to ask. Is there a trick to fishing deep water with a baitcaster or do most of you switch to spinning for this?
  15. Beautiful for sure. I'd be happy just strolling around in that canoe. Best of luck and let us know if you get one.
  16. I've been at a local golf course pond twice now and skunked both times. I know fish are there too. About two months ago I fished the same ponds and pulled 8-9 small ones, but it was still fun. I just used a senko dragging across the bottom and nothing. Even tried casting out towards the middle (deeper water) and not even a bite.
  17. Best wishes to your son, Tom. Hope you get some good news soon
  18. Whose the monkey and when can I meet him?
  19. That sounds amazing. I'll take a lot of dinks anyday. What type of bait did you mainly use? I can't imaging plastics right? More hard lures?
  20. Ok, so as I've stated in my intro post, I'm new to bass fishing. I've learned everything just by trial and error and the curve has been steep thus far. Anyhow, over the last few months chasing bass has become almost an obsession. During my leisure time, all I do is research local lakes to fish along with the latest and greatest baits that might make the fishing a bit easier. My 9 yr old son is probably worse than me. He sits in the garage at night practicing flips with his baitcaster and will also go out front to make full casts although I told him not to unless he puts on something safe to throw. Needless to say, he has wasted tons of line and has also gotten very good at fixing backlash, which is a good thing I guess. We are both huge golfers and now instead of golfing I think it is safe to say that we would both rather fish. Or better yet, golf and then hopefully get access to a pond and fish afterwards. For those of you who have fished for a long time, does the obsession eventually subside or is it still going strong?
  21. Did he really just say 50-100 fish a day is normal. If I wasn't married with 4 kids, I'd be on may out there tomorrow.
  22. Hey guys, any updates on Perris and the Bernasconi side. I'm trying to get out there next week with my son to beat some of the crowds. I've heard the bite is pretty good there with most guys using a drop shot or a senko in the shallows.
  23. I used to be pretty good at casting a spinning reel, but after getting a baitcaster my spinning skills have gone down the tubes. After getting a BC, I absolutely love it and prefer it over spinning any day. I will say, I have trouble pitching and flipping. I can do full casts with no backlast, but try a pitch or flip and boom- birdnest city. Go figure.
  24. Can someone please tell me what DD stands for? When I watch youtube videos of guys catching large bass they are always using huge swim baits in a large lake. This is coming from a novice though and just something I've noticed.
