  1. Lots of info on Google with pics on how to wire up a 12v switch whether it's a new switch or an existing one. My advice is to do a whole lot of reading and looking at pics and apply what you learned. If you don't feel comfortable then find someone who is. A boat fire isn't something you want. As dirty said, I'd just hook into the nav lights.
  2. Congrats on the new boat. We need pics of your new ride!
  3. Lots of great advice here everyone. I appreciate y'all taking the time to give me your input. He said he's made up his mind on both now. He's going to buy the Curado DC and he picked the Shimano Zodius rod. I've not seen that rod mentioned here but hopefully it's a good rod. I think the DC was a good choice for him to help him get fishing easier however, I also think maybe learning how to use a baitcaster without the technology helping him may have been better. But it's his money. And it is a very nice reel. I'm going to get the Tatula 100 and the Dobyns Fury for my setup.
  4. Top water is definitely the most exciting fishing ever. During the spring time the wipers come into the shallows chasing shad on my local lake and they will devastate a top water popper on almost every cast. It's some of my favorite fishing.
  5. Thanks but I guess I should say that I'm not at all a fan of Lews reels. Probably should said that from the beginning.
  6. I really appreciate everyone's responses! I'm pretty sure I've decided on the Diawa Tatula for both me and him. Not sure which model yet though. Will let him decide which he wants, I'll probably do the ct for me in left hand so I don't have to swap hands after I cast. His favorite color is red and once he seen the red accents,he was sold on the reel. I've done some reading on the Dobyns Fury and it sounds like a good rod for the price point. I've still gotta do more research before I make a final decision on what I want. I've been showing my son the discussions here and he says he wants the Dobyns Champion, but he's obviously making that decision because he sees $$ and thinks he'll be cool having such an expensive rod lol. I'm sure it's worth every penny. His money so he can buy what he wants. While this post was started to help figure out a good starting point for HIM, I also need all the same gear so I guess it's as much for me as it is him.
  7. Thank you for the feedback. Yes, my son is extremely anal about taking care of his things. I don't need to worry about him trashing an expensive rod or reel. Now his older brother is the complete opposite. I don't really want to consider prebuilt combo packages for various reasons. I think buying components individually gives you a better end product. and I am the master of finding the best deals on things. I have an extremely analytical mindset so comparing prices is an obsession. We will be fishing from kayaks a lot and the bank occasionally. And yeah he has a very extensive tackle collection but what fisherman doesn't need or want more. He's got several rod/reel combos now but they're all spinning reels. We fish at the very least once a week during the nice months. And we have three quarries behind our home that we walks back to frequently.
  8. Yeah due to his disease he is a tiny little feller. thanks for the feedback
  9. He can't get off the xbox long enough to research anything. That's why dad is here researching for him. He's got cystic fibrosis so I try to keep him as active as possible. He's an active kid and most kids his age with CF have already lost a large percentage of their lung capacity by his age but, thank god his are still at 90% and he's doing well. He and I will be getting kayaks this spring and start doing a lot more fishing. I'll do whatever it takes to keep him active and extend his life. Your friend couldn't afford her lol
  10. Thanks man. Yeah I know you really need to match your setup to what you're fishing with and for But, I figure he can start off with one that will do everything ok and allow him to enter into the baitcasting world and how to use them. Later on he can start getting more specific on what he buys. And no his sister's husband isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and not anyone I'd wanna go to for fishing advice, or any advice lol. Nice guy but he half ***** everything he does. Puts more effort into video gaming than anything else in life. But that's a different story. My son enjoys bass fishing the most and just wants his first bait caster. I'm mainly looking for what model reel and rod ro look at and I can help him narrow down the rods length and action. I've read a lot about the tatula ct reels and thought those may be a good starting point for him. But I've got no clue on rods as I've always just bought Ugly Stiks and called it a day. I'm thinking a $100-150 for the rod would get him into something decent. Don't know anything about the tennis shoes. She bought all my kids and their girlfiends/husbands these shoes and I guess they were like $800 a pair. My boys only wear boots so they sold theirs.
  11. So my 14yo son sold a pair of tennis shoes his aunt bought him for Christmas and got $385 out of them. He informed me last night he wants to buy a quality bait caster rod and reel. He's also got like an extra $70 sat back as well for a total of $455. All of this $ doesn't have to be spent on just one rig though, as he could use some to buy some lures or other things. This kid has been obsessed with fishing the past two years and claims his goal is to be a pro fisherman. What rod/reel would you suggest this young man buy? He's never used a baitcaster before but his sister's husband uses them and now my son wants one so bad he can't stand it. His use will be for SM & LG throwing a variety of things.
  12. Just a pic of my sweet wife.
  13. Yeah I fell in love with the ss127 and was determined that was the yak I wanted. Then I realized it wouldn't be a good choice for small rivers and creeks. We have an 11k acre lake 15 mins away and will do a lot of fishing there but both my sons and I love fishing for smallies on the area creeks as well, plus some of the local quarries. So something that paddles well and gets into shallow water is very important. Whatever I get I'm gonna have to buy two of since the youngest needs one as well and he'll want whatever I have lol. The other criteria is I've gotta be able to mount a trolling motor on it for when we're on the lake.
  14. Back to the top. Surely there is a lot more kayakers here than this. Come on let's see em!
  15. I've never used a senko but was just telling my youngest son that we're gonna have to buy some and give them a shot this spring.
  16. Yeah that's an idea for sure. Only problem is the yaks I'm looking at are so new to the market that it'll probably be difficult to find anyone that already owns one. It's such a hard decision because I want the best of both worlds - I want something that is so stable that I can walk all around it BUT I want it to paddle very well too. Those two wants don't jive together very well. The 3 waters big fish looks pretty darn decent too. But man I just love the looks of the kaku. I'm kinda down to trying to decide between the kaku zulu or wahoo. And I'd really rather support a company like kaku as opposed to the giants in the industry.
  17. Caught an 8lbs on a white beetle spin.
  18. If you could only have one lure For catching LM bass, what would it be? And for small mouth? And one color as well.
  19. I'm a huge fan of CZ rifles and have been buying them since the late 90's. I was into CZ's before most people in the US even knew existed. The 452 series is one of my favorite rifles on the planet. I hate the new line of rifles though.
  20. I have two, my 14yo son has one. These are my two.

What happens when a living thing gets hit with a 12ga slug? It dies... I've hunted deer with my 12ga 870 for 30 years now. I could hunt with any firearm I wanted to hunt with and will always choose my 870.
  22. Should a just hunted around for a CZ 452. IMO it's one of the best rifles ever produced.

Sweet! You'll have to give us a a good review of it when you've had time to put in through the ringer. My youngest son and I love to hunt yotes. We both use AR's too. He's 14 and just got his first AR for Christmas. It's a PSA 16" upper with the nickel boron bolt and the lower is the fully polished enhanced trigger model. I put the red camo hogue buttstock and pistol grip on it since that's his favorite color. And topped it with a Leupod VXR 2-7-33. I think that $400 Leupold is almost as clear as my brother in laws $3000 schmidt Bender scope! Honestly, I think even the new Freedom series seems to be as good as the old VX2-3 series of scopes. This is what his came out looking like. He loves his new rifle!
  24. Good post man! I've read that a lot about the thin vibe plastic. That never crossed my mind though. Vibe has always stood behind their kayaks as good or better than anyone in the industry though. There has been many instances of the seats wearing through on some PADDLE kayaks so it's obviously pretty common knowledge to these manufacturers that it's an area that needs special attention. If they don't then it's pretty negligent on their part. I read somewhere about the Pelicans massive failure on their drive but also read they really cut corners producing it. Hopefully Vibe has paid close attention so they don't repeat their same mistakes. I am eagerly waiting to see people get these into their hands and get some real world use out of them. I had planned to pick one up myself until I stumbled on the Kaku line. Once you get a bad reputation for poor quality or customer service, it's extremely difficult to get away from that stigma. Vibe would be smart to put every effort in making sure this yak is done right because they have a real shot here of producing something outstanding for that price point.
