Yes they're an easy catch. I only know of two bodies of water out of all the ones I've fished down here that don't have peacock bass. Just toss a shiner in the water and you'll get one pretty quickly. If you don't like live bait, toss around an X-Rap and you'll get into one as well. Here's one video of dunking shiners in a canal.

I think that is one of the great things about fishing, there are so many ways to do it. Everyone will have a different level of commitment or a different way they do it. Neither is right or wrong, just different.

I am a Youtuber by hobby. Currently at 679 subscribers. If I can make enough one day to cover some expenses I'll be happy. The people that do it full time make very little off of YouTube. The vast majority of those big time YouTubers make it from sponsorships. Sponsorships will vary based on how much traffic you can bring to the video. While a video with a million views might not make $1000 from ad revenue, a video with a million views will be worth a lot more to a direct sponsor. Imagine what you'd pay to get your product in front of one million people? While making money off of YouTube and making money off of sponsorships are somewhat related, I'd treat them as two separate categories. The sponsorships will come if you can prove to the sponsors that you'll get their product in front of people.

What's amazing to me is that the fallfish was the apex predator in many northeast waters before humans introduced the invasive largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, various trout species, etc. Nice catch!

Just a couple of the different species I've caught microfishing in the last week. From first to last they are the Salvini cichlid, bluegill sunfish, Mayan cichlid, and jaguar cichlid.

Based only on the information you provided I'm going to assume that the fish don't actually have the point of the hook in their mouths when you set the hook. Bluegill and other panfish typically have very small mouths and will pick at the hanging bits of the night crawler instead of engulfing the whole thing. What I do when fishing this style is this. When I get a bite I don't set the hook. Instead I very slowly begin to reel in my line. This is when the fish usually get more aggressive since they think the bait is going away. They will then usually hook themselves trying to get the bait before it flees. My hook up ratio this way isn't perfect, but it's much better than setting the hook on every bite like you would when bass fishing with a plastic worm.

Greetings all. I recently bought a St. Croix Mojo Bass (7'1" MF) and love it for jerk baits which is what I mainly fish with. I feel it's a bit too stiff and heavy for smaller presentations though where more sensitivity is needed. I'm looking at getting a ML rod for this type of fishing and have narrowed it down to a couple of options. Could you please let me know which you think would be best for fishing smaller softplastics? I'd like to stick to St. Croix rods as I like what I have and would like to experiment with them a bit more. The Mojo Bass I have is great and I'm not sure if the Avid X is worth the extra money or if the Bass X is good enough at the lower price. Thanks. My bet is on a fantail carp. Same species as common carp, just with a longer tail.

To play devil's advocate here. Saying that more guides increase casting distance seems to go against the laws of physics. The more guides you have the more guides the line has to rub up against creating friction and slowing the line down. It seems to me that on spinning rods which is all that I use that only the first couple of guides straighten out the line and then the ones towards the tip just create more friction and resistance.

Thanks. The FWC as well as other sources lists the striped bass as occurring in the Gulf of Mexico as far south at the Suwannee River. This made me think they were in there, but I guess that's just the southern most extent of their range.

We ended up getting a house on the river in Live Oak. Much further than where you were fishing. I hope it's not too far north for Suwannee bass. Any chance at getting striped bass or white bass that far north?

Greetings all. I currently live in South Florida, but me and two friends from New Jersey were thinking of getting a house for a few days between Christmas and New Years on the Suwannee River in North Florida. I have never fished in northern Florida and I'm not sure what to expect that time of year. Temperature wise it looks like it will be in the 50s-70s, but I don't know how that translates to fishing there. What are my chances of getting some decent action during that time of year. Either largemouth bass or suwannee bass would be the main target, but I wouldn't mind fishing for crappie or some sunfish species either. Thanks.

I've got no problem with it, but I just don't enjoy it as much. Others don't enjoy artificials as much. I still use shiners maybe 2-3 times per year though. I do so on the days where I want to fish, but I'm feeling lazy and don't want to move around too much and make a million casts. It's just easier to make a single cast, sit, and wait.

I don't have a rod dedicated to it as the ones I would want costs a couple hundred dollars, but I just use my regular ultralight rods with 4 pound flurocarbon. Fluro is denser than mono or braid so even without any weight it sinks to the bottom easier. For hooks I recently really started liking tanago. They're a little hard to find in the US, but there is one website that sells specialty microfishing gear, Tenkarabum. Finally for bait I like redworms. They're smaller and skinnier than nightcrawlers so it's easier to get them onto the small hooks. All of this is the perfect scenario, I've microfished with some larger hooks and nightcrawlers like I did in this video when I don't have the other resources.

Thanks for this. That's a lot of formality and details. I'm not aware of any high schools that offer it as a sport around here. I was thinking of this club being more informal and not really a "team". If we do any tournaments I think it would just be within the club and not versus any other schools. I just want to kids to have fun and something to do a couple times a month.

I'm a K-8 physical education teacher at a school down in Florida. Obviously I love fishing and in the past year I've realized that many of my students do as well. I was thinking about starting a fishing club once Covid dies down and we can get back to campus. I'm thinking I'd open it up to middle school first before letting the whole school join. I've never been a part of a fishing club at any level and I'm curious if anyone here has any experience with this at the middle school level. I was thinking of meeting twice a month. One day after school in the classroom where we can have some formal learning opportunities, discussions, maybe lure painting, fly tying, etc. Then one day a month we'll go out to a local park for a few hours after school and fish. Does this sound good? Anyone have any suggestions?

Looks like a largemouth. If you look where the jaw would be resting if closed it extends all the way to the back of the eye. Like was mentioned above, it probably just has a deformed upper lip.

Upon closer look I believe you're right on the dollar. The tiny size just made me think bluespotted. I'm originally from New Jersey, but a ways away from the Pine Barrens. That place is a gold mine for microfishing and lifelisting though. Between all the pygmy sunfishes and the redfin pickerel, it's worth the trip.

So to be completely honest, I should've asked this question here before I bought it. It was a bit of an impulse buy, but I ordered the St. Croix Mojo Bass spinning rod in 7'1" medium power last week and it was delivered today. Haven't seen it yet since I'm at work, but I'm excited to test it out. Has anyone used this rod before and what do you think? I mainly fish jerkbaits from shore for peacocks and largemouths in South Florida lakes and canals. I also want to start throwing soft plastics on ned rigs and Texas rigs for them as well. This is my first adventure into the "expensive" set ups. Before this most of my set ups costs less than $50 for the rod and reel combined. What do you guys think of the rod and its use for my applications?
