baitcaster preference
yeah when I first saw the DC come out, I already had the Curado k standard, so it did not pay to upgrade just to be more care free when casting. I like the technology but its not enough to buy it for me.

baitcaster preference
I might get a medium rod and try it out. The Metanium and Bantam are sweet reels...thing of beauty. I can afford it, I just hesitate to hit the order now button lol...it's sort of like just buying stuff to buy it..no real reason to have it

baitcaster preference
My primary fishing is LMB, but I catch other things occasionally. The curado K is on a medium heavy fast action rod. I was thinking of buying a medium action rod, so the fish fighting is more interesting. What is your opinion on using a baitcaster, like the curado for example, with light action/medium actions rods? I can buy a more expensive baitcaster than the Curado but I don't have a great reason to justify it.

Fishing just for the heck of it
I feel the same as a lot of you do, not catching fish used to annoy me but not these days. I often use the casting time now to reflect on any problems I have or even just thinking about the past, good times. I have to be careful though, because if I do that too long it sours my mood a little!

Favorite color rubber bait
You know back several years ago I was using an awesome worm by Charlie's worms. it was a ribbon tail in "grape" flavor, dark purple. That worm landed me a lot of bass and the smell of grape was great to boot

Preferred knots

-
Preferred knots
Yeah before you pass the hook through the loop on the palomar knot untwist the loop and then pass it through. I have just always done that little step first

Opinion of these reels

Opinion of these reels
I am in the market to buy a spinning reel soon, and I am not sure if I should pick up the Shimano Stradic or the Ultegra. Most of my fishing consists of bass fishing. Do you guys have experience with any of these reels, or even both? Please give me your personal pro and con findings

your first baitcasting reel
See I had no idea how far back baitcasters went, I assumed they came out in the 90s lol. It is really cool to read all your personal experiences wow that looks crazy modern for what time period it came out in. looks like a nice little reel to use and I'm guessing but probably not so cheap at the time

your first baitcasting reel
nice looking reel. This looks like a salt water style but is it for freshwater? I supposes you could use it for either

your first baitcasting reel

baitcaster preference
For the last couple years I have been swapping between the Shimano Curado K and the Curado 70. I love both of them, but I will probably be picking up a higher end model soon. What is your current baitcast reel that you use exclusively without question, or do you swap with a different baitcaster?

trying to sharpen hook points
Yeah just not sure what they are and how accurate my free hand would be. Probably not extremely vital to get it perfect. After all, most consumer grade hooks if not all, are machine sharpened right? I may be wrong about that too

FL fisherman
hey, my name is Steve, I come from Pittsburgh but have lived in FL most of my life. Fish mostly for bass, but like to go for other species too. In Florida we are fortunate to have a great fishing opportunities, whether salt or fresh. I like to mostly fish lakes and man made areas (these are all over FL). Not much of a salt water fisherman, I never got into it but I'm sure it is awesome. I started fishing like many others, father took me out at young age to teach me the fundamentals, now its 21 years later and still loving it! the fisherman's high. Keep enjoying what you do.

Preferred knots
I always go to the improved clinch knot and palomar, probably because these are two of the very first knots I remembered by heart. I know it depends on the hook eye configuration, but I tend to tie palomar knots when using braid and clinch when using mono/fluoro line. I am not against other knots, there are a lot of great ones, I just don't seem to change when it comes to that. Its one of those things you just stick with.

trying to sharpen hook points
You see, I am probably wrong, but I always imagined when you sharpen something like a hook point you would need to do it at proper angles/have proper geometry, but I need to remember this is not a knife blade lol ?

your first baitcasting reel
oh man that really sucks! sorry about that I can't imagine.
-
trying to sharpen hook points
wow your right about that, goes to show you I have never sharpened or tried to sharpen them, didn't even know they made a dang sharpening tool for the hook points....feel dumb now

your first baitcasting reel
What was your first baitcasting reel, and how old were you when you learned/started using one? For me, I was 14-15, around 2006 with not much money, it was a silver quantum escalade. At the time I thought it was awesome, but had no experience/idea of what a great quality baitcaster was lol. Now I love my Shimano reels, and baby them like heck, can't help it.
