  1. Today I received my Scorpion BFS reel from Japan, it looks awesome. To me it looks just like the curado 70 reel. It should be fun catching big fish on this small reel. Does anyone else have this reel, and what do you think of it?
  2. Do you guys think I should leave them dry or add a light grease coating to the washers? I see many different opinions of this
  3. I remember when I was younger if the rod had the tag showing the rod was equipped with fuji guides it was a big deal, my eyes lit up lol. They are quality guides for sure, but are they still considered the top choice? Or are most rods these days fitted with good quality rod guides, say above the 100 dollar price point? Are fuji guides some kind of ceramic?
  4. So I probably have no reason to buy new sets of drag washers for my reels if that's the case. Do you think I should buy them just to have around? They are pretty cheap
  5. Thank you sir, it appears all the reels I have by shimano use carbontex??. If you had to guess, what is the life span of washers like these with regular fishing?
  6. Sorry I could have been more specific. Price point for reels like the curado 200k, bantam mgl, stradic 2500FL etc. Is there a way to tell it is carbontex by looking at it? Any distinctive features?
  7. I was doing some maintenance on one of my reels and it had me thinking about the drag washers. I was reading about these "carbontex" washers everyone raves about. Does shimano use this brand of drag washer in their current reels, or their own stuff? Would it be worth it to change them to carbontex, or are the washers installed more than sufficient? I am assuming they would already be high quality but I am just curious ?
  8. Good stuff guys good stuff
  9. I was just trying out a couple different top water frogs, hopping and jerking them a decent distance. They just did not go for it, but then I throw out a crankbait or spinnerbait and I do get hits. Like someone else mentioned, could it be the time of day or time of year? I feel like in south Florida, bass are or should be no problem to catch most of the year.. I guess I need to keep trying and try more variety is what I'm hearing
  10. I tried using a few different top water lures at a lake I catch bass in regularly, but they don't seem to go for it. There is no heavy cover at this lake on top, but there is plenty of grass in the water. Could this be due to a lack of food source, like a frog for instance? My assumption was that even if they don't eat something like frogs, if they saw an enticing lure like that they would still go for it anyway. Any thoughts or ideas? Just fyi the lake is pretty tinted, it's not very clear water.
  11. Thanks to everyone who gave some advice/opinions. I have spent lots of money on the last 4 rods I own, so I am looking at fairly decent rods without spending much. I may be making a mistake by going cheaper, but I am looking at the "Clarus" casting rods by Shimano. They seem quality enough, and it just may meet my Medium action needs. Have any of you used this rod before or own it? What do you think of it? It is the 7 foot 2" medium fast action rod version
  12. the lakes or ponds I fish at don't particularly have heavy cover, but there is cover of some kind. Some interesting points made so far. Last week I caught a 8 or 10 pound snakehead on a medium spinning rod with 10 lb mono...let me just say it was a fun fight getting him in, of course I thought the line or knot was going to give but sure enough I landed it. he was 34" long! ?
  13. Most of my casting rods are medium heavy, and I have a medium spinning rod. I was thinking of getting a medium casting rod. Most of my fishing is for bass, and occasional snakeheads. Between a medium rod and medium heavy, generally speaking, can the medium power rod basically handle what the medium heavy can do? I know ratings differ between brands but what are your thoughts?
  14. good point about line twist, I was not thinking about that detail ?
  15. Do you guys close your spinning reel bail by turning the handle or do it with your hand? I used to always close it by turning the handle but then I heard some years back it wears out faster. Whether it's true or not, I have no idea but it stuck with me so ever since I close it with my hand.
  16. Impressive lineup, I am trying to control myself and not purchase anymore even though you can't have too many. I don't really have room and I can't justify it atm. In the future I will probably have a reason to have more rods and reels ?
  17. I heard that you should loosen the drag after you are done fishing some years back, and it has just stuck with me ever since. Now I tell any friends that fish to remember and loosen their drag also! lol
  18. It's official now, I will just use the braid in clear water and not just murky water. Thanks for your input?
  19. What is your current reel lineup? I have 4 setups ready to go. Curado 200k, Curado 70, Bantam MGL, and Stradic 2500 ??
  20. Yeah I get the feeling braid does not scare the fish off to the point some people say. Thanks for the input
  21. I have heard some people say the fish don't go after the lure because they see the braid, and others have said the fish don't seem to care about the braid being possibly visible. What are your thoughts or experiences with this? Would you use a mono or fluorocarbon leader, or is this not always necessary? I typically fish with fluorocarbon myself
  22. I just purchased the reel last week and I love this thing. I paired it up with a 7 foot 2" Intenza medium heavy, moderate fast action rod. I think it's a good match. Who else has this reel and what do you think of it?
  23. in clear water, pumpkin. in murky water blue or black I would say ?
  24. I see, you basically when you reel it in the action of the lure won't work properly (blade won't spin right etc)
