  1. hmm that is an interesting idea, and as we know braid lasts a long time too
  2. yeah I get your point, unless they released testing footage or data which I didn't see. when they arrive i will do a "pull test" myself to get a general idea of how much muscle I need in order to straighten it out
  3. the bass or panfish i usually encounter in my fishing areas are probably from 1-5 pounds, so i guess 12lb breaking strength is sufficient. I was wrong to order the small rings at 7lb break strength...they feel like they give out too easy. good thing i didn't spend a lot on them 😅
  4. I agree, I did a pull test myself and it didn't take much strength for me to bend it out...so I ordered slightly larger ones with 12 pound rating break strength, these should be ok
  5. I bought another pack of split rings, they are slightly larger and say rated for 12 pound breaking strength, I'm assuming these are suitable without problems
  6. do you think it's a gamble for open water situations? I realize if you have to wrestle them out of cover then you need more strength I bought some split rings by strike king, "tour grade" 00 and 0 size. what is strange is i can't find any info on what strength they have for these two sizes. but being strike king brand is guess I should assume they will be strong enough
  7. Yeah I bought a couple packs this morning of the 6mm and 7mm, quite a bit more breaking strength but also larger. They should be ok
  8. I'm just curious what it feels like in practice, to set up a scale and hang onto some fishing line and pull it until it reached 7 pounds of pulling force. it's probably more than I would think..but yeah if I end up having to buy a different brand rated higher strength for small size then I will do that
  9. perhaps but when fighting a bass, is it likely they would cause a split ring rated at 7 pounds to bend out and possibly fail or is that unlikely? of course I'm not talking about situations when you need to horse a tangled fish out of thick cover or anything. Just open water situations with light cover maybe
  10. hey, I purchased some smaller split rings for my squarebills, smallest size I can use without impeding freedom of hook movement. it says they are rated at 7 pound breaking strength which doesn't seem that good. even though they are rated for 7 pounds do you think it's likely they can handle more than what is rated? should this still be ok for largemouth bass fishing? I wonder how much pressure or power 7 pounds actually is and if most bass can produce that kind of strain on the split ring
  11. It's rebranded? The okuma halogen costs $80
  12. Just curious, have you ever experienced that phenomenon? where you can easily pull line by hand no matter how tight the drag is, but when fighting the fish the drag works normally? is this some kind of design with the drag system or something?
  13. very nice.....however I must report there's an update about the reel😐 so apparently with this reel, how easy you can pull line off the spool by hand has nothing to do with drag power when you catch a fish. no matter how tight i set the drag, i can easily pull line off the spool by hand. with shimano reels, when you lock the drag they are pretty hard to pull line out by hand. so in my mind, the drag was weak or the reel has a problem. So I give it another chance today, and hook a 2-3 pound bass..the drag did not slip at all. I had to actually back off a bit to allow the bass a little freedom. so I am pleasantly surprised by this. Here I thought how easy you can pull line off the spool by hand will also determine how well the drag actually works when you fight a fish. with this reel that apparently is not the case 😎 the reel i got was the Okuma Halogen. but it turns out i guess the drag is ok....it just fooled me 😶
  14. nah they just go in the garbage
  15. well I bought another reel like I said.....turns out same issue. drag is not good at all, it pulls out fairly easy with it tightened down max. the review of the reel online says it has strong drag and I dont know how they could possibly say that. $160 in the garbage but I guess that's what you get for an $80 price point reel. lesson learned, stick with higher end reels
  16. so the rod looks cool and it's really light. one thing I dont believe was mentioned online in the description though...it has micro guides! lol. well they might be medium micro guides but they are pretty small. it's a spinning model but it should be ok as i don't plan to use a leader, just braid on it's own. Will see how it feels to fish with this weekend 🎣 yeah exactly...I mostly plan to use crankbaits and inline spinners with it. I might get away with some jerkbaits too
  17. yes yes I will report this weekend once I try it out 😎
  18. Yes better hurry they will probably be sold out quickly...with fuji alconite guides and a japanese carbon toray blank I was expecting over $200 price tag, it's a good price
  19. Says it arrives tomorrow I'm looking forward to it
  20. Pretty good price, $170 ...it is 30/40 toray carbon blank, fuji k frame alconite guides. It's a 7' medium moderate action rod. The people using them seem to only have good things to say
  21. Hey, I picked up a rod by level rods, the NGX spinning model. I never heard of the company but apparently they have been around for a little while. All the reviews of this rod are very positive, and it seems to be made with solid components. Does anyone have any experience with these rods or this model in particular?
  22. yes that's how I noticed the drag was very weak. once I took it apart I saw the drag spring washers were not in the correct orientation, they were like this (( instead of ( ) or )(. even after correcting that and purchasing carbon drag washers, the drag still remains weak. the reel is defective in some way so I just purchased another one no big deal
  23. yeah I appreciate it but I just went ahead and bought another reel. very unlikely the reel will be defective or missing parts a second time in a row
  24. I dont know where to even find a correct washer for it, I just went ahead and purchased the reel again. I will use the other one for spare parts i guess. Hopefully I won't get another dud from the factory
