  1. So a larger handle on a smaller baitcasting reel won't put a strain on it by doing that?
  2. Hey I recently upgraded a couple of my reels with larger handles, I think it is more comfortable and in my opinion it makes the reels look nice. I installed a larger handle on my Shimano scorpion bfs reel and curado 70 reel. Could there possibly be any adverse effects to the reels by doing this? Can it cause some kind of strain on the reel? Do they purposely not give certain reels larger handles to save money, or because a larger handle is simply not needed? Just curious about this
  3. Hope you are all doing well Just wanted to post my first catch for the year so far, nice peacock bass
  4. I'm trying to look these up, they are kind of difficult to find....these dang things are expensive! Considering only 4 come in a package. Go figure that a hook with two points would cost more than a treble hook..funny. I don't think I can justify paying $30 with shipping for just 4 hooks. What other company makes these, and are they any cheaper than this?
  5. Pretty cool, so if I try these out are the common sizes I should get #4 and #3 or #2? Most of my crankbaits are lipless crankbaits and square bills in 1.0 to 1.5 max probably.
  6. Yeah they are fun and plenty aggressive. The water around my area is pretty low visibility so as you can see in some of the pictures they unfortunately get hooked near the gill area or side of the body. Probably from swiping at it or just missed strikes due to bad visibility
  7. I don't like rain while I'm fishing, unless it's really light and passes quickly. Yeah I know my rod and reel will survive it, but I just don't like the feeling of everything wet and a reel covered in water while reeling the line in. I also don't like the idea of the cork on the handle getting soaked all the way through....just gives me uneasy feelings about the whole thing. I admit when it comes to my equipment i tend to baby it. That is just my personal feeling about it
  8. Hey, Decided to do a little crankbait fishing this morning and landed 2 decent peacocks and 1 pretty large 👌
  9. Ok so you think it would be a bad idea to smash the barbs down?
  10. Yes they say treble hooks mess up a fishes mouth, but probably not so bad in largemouth. I will just smash the barbs for ease of removal I guess. Single hooks won't land a lot of fish on a crankbait I don't think
  11. Hey, Last year I swapped out my treble hooks on my crankbaits with in line single hooks. I can't help but feel like I've missed a number of fish due to there only being one point of contact they have to hook. If I install the treble hooks again would crushing the barbs make it easier to deal with treble hooks? What is your guys opinions about this?
  12. I guess in a lot of cases higher quality blanks = the ability to keep the blank really thin, regardless of the power rating it has
  13. I got the rod today....man this thing is rated heavy but it is super lightweight and it looks like a medium power rod. I'm blown away that this is actually a heavy rated rod. The fit and finish is perfect, tomorrow morning I will do a little test run with it but it's really impressive on first look
  14. Yes it could be worse. I'm putting my faith in the fact that gamakatsu is a high quality company so their rods are probably no exception. I'm not expecting to be disappointed It is a gamakatsu luxxe series rod
  15. Nothing like paying a lot of money for a rod and not being able to check it out first lol
  16. In the end I went with a rod by Gamakatsu. Its supposed to be here tomorrow....wish me luck we'll see how it turns out..
  17. When I do Texas rig it usually weighs around that, if not a little bit heavier. I don't typically fish an 8 or 10 inch worm, I usually stick around a 5 or 6 inch worm. Another cool feature is the detachable handle, which apparently is common among jdm produced rods
  18. If I'm lucky that rod can handle 1/4 decently, the description says it's good for Texas rig also. I'm hoping it's more like a Mh than a true H
  19. It says it's avenge series
  20. Apparently it is composed of 99% carbon fiber and 1% glass fiber so I'm not sure what this means function wise
  21. This rod is rated heavy...3/8 up to 2oz. Do you think I can get away with fishing lures in 1/4 weight without issues, or crankbaits being it has a softer taper?
  22. Yeah, it only weighs 5 ounces apparently, that's pretty light for a rod rated heavy. I am nervous and excited at the same time, this would be my first high end jdm rod purchase...I have never dropped a lot of money on a rod before so. They are high quality rods so I'm not expecting to be disappointed
  23. It is a Gamakatsu casting rod...only recently did I discover the hook company we all know also makes quite a few rods in Japan. This thing apparently is rated to throw 3/8oz all the way up to 2oz lures which is interesting. Line recommended is 12-25 pound, but I will probably use 10 pound.
  24. I'm looking at a jdm rod that is regular fast action and heavy power. I am thinking the H power is going to be more like MH lol. If the taper is forgiving enough it should allow me to fish a lot of different types of lures...that's my hope anyway. The rod I am wanting is not possible to get my hands on to check it out, it's only really sold in Japan so I have no way to try it out
