  1. This spring wont be as bad at last year I dont think. Having said that, certain baits like red cranks were always really hard to get late winter. Your better off buying baits a season ahead if you can help it.
  2. I think the biggest reason for that spring produces the largest fish because there bulking up so they can stay on a nest. The bigger fish dont seem to be as spooky in the prespawn to me. Thats what I figured, its like that here in Jersey with the stocked trout. When I was a kid they would stock trout in early march and you weren't aloud to fish at all in the stocked lakes until the trout season opened.
  3. Are you allowed to fish at all before bass season opens? In my area it takes about 10 days to 2 weeks of water temps of 60 or over before I see the first fish on beds. With most lakes and ponds here being extremely shallow , the prespawn around here is short compared to bigger water.
  4. The Ktech football jigs are great, just make sure you use lighter gear so you dont bend the hook out, its a really light wire for a jig. There casting jig is a good option, its really compact with a bigger hook of a thicker wire. The Picasso Little Spotty (ball head) and AM tungsten FB jig are slightly bigger then the Ktech FB jig. So the profile is close to the same size, but the Picasso jig has a stout 3/0 hook with that can be used on heavier tackle without issues. Instead of a fiber guard Picasso uses titanium wires. (2 on the spotty, 3 on the AM FB) The only thing about them Im not crazy about is that they use a grommet instead of wire. The actually skirt material is really nice and the colors are pretty good. If you want to go with lead... Peppers Micro Finesse is great little jig with a good 2/0 Gami hook along with a god wire keeper. Its about the same size as the Picasso and just like the Picasso it comes with a long skirt that you cut to the size you want. The bottom of the head is flat so when you pair with a floating or neutral buoyancy bait its stands up really well. Its kind of like Zmans finesse shroom head jigs in size with a more traditional hook. The 1/4 Molix Kento Jig is a good little casting jig. The head is pretty much the same chape as an Arkie, so you can do just about anything with it. Its got a sharp hook with a short shank. They come with a really long skirt that you rim down to the size you want. The silicon is really high quality and the skirt is hand tied. Not sure of the process, but the heads are one of the most chip resistant ive used. The 1/4 is a really good swim jig in shallow water. Just make sure to get the 1/4 if you want the smaller jig, the 3/8 uses the same hook except the shank is much longer so its a full size jig. The skirts without fleck are much more supple. Avoid the skirts with a lot of fleck like GP red purple, wild craw has some stiffer strands but most of it is solid colored so its not stiff like the GP red. Dobyns FB jig are a good option. There more of a compact FB jig then a finesse jig IMO. There a lot like Bass Patrol jigs except they have a better hook and keeper, a hybrid skirt silicon with some rubber mixed in instead of just silicon or rubber. The colors are pretty good, I really like the rootbeer GP. Tough to beat for the $ you can get 3 jigs with hand tied skirts for 10$.
  5. If you can fish a few days before and after the full or new moon during the prespawn you have a good chance at catching a better fish. If you add an approaching front or even a departing front in that period of the moon phase that will give your best opportunity to catch the biggest fish on that body of water feeding at the same time.
  6. The trailer can add a good amount of weight and resistance so keep that in mind as well.
  7. The U.S. military and the rest of the world put the date first, not the month. So 6/2/2021 would be Feb 6. 2021. You also have to realize that they are on the other side of the IDL so its the 6th there as I'm writing this. You may see words misspelled or descriptions that don't make total sense. Its most likely just issues with translation. As long as you didn't misspell the website it should be legit. Honestly Ive never ordered from AP so I have no experience with them, but there are loads of people who have have dealt with them and everything has gone well. Ive gone through JLS and Digitaka, both of them were easy to get a hold of, polite and accommodating. If you feel like you dont want to take a chance contact your credit card company or bank and go from there. I wouldn't worry too much, good luck.
  8. Around here the fish start to school up and push shallow heavy when the water hits the mid 40s. I love to throw JBs and SBs do really well, but the chatterbait would be the 1 bait I cant go without in the Pre Spawn.
  9. lol I know, I almost wrote that for the title of the topic, but I thought someone may get offended by it somehow. The Paddre Tair Worm is another good 1. They dont have Ls in their alphabet, so it comes out like an "R" like,...Herro...
  10. So far 13 has been consistent and accurate with power and action when it comes to the 36t blank in the Omen Black and Muse. The M Muse fishes just like a M Avid, the Avids action is a hair faster and may have slightly more power or at least feels that way, but fishes the same baits as the Muse similarly. I feel that the Muse balances better and the slightly slower action gives me more casting distance. IKR, its like McDonalds saying, "Try our new chicken McNuggets, now made with 100% chicken."
  11. The Alde is a great reel especially for JBs and finesse techniques. Its nice to have a sub 5oz reel, but thats a double edged sword. It can be hard to balance with longer rods without adding counter weights. Aluminum gears are fine for JBs and lighter techniques, its spinnerbaits, flippin jigs, T rigs or anything where you lock the drag down and swing for the fences that can cause issues with aluminum over time. Again the Alde is a great reel, but personally I think the Met B is far more versatile. I know the term "game changer" is over used, but it describes the Met B well. I think eventually the core solid bodys will be standard on mid range reels and up. The Mets frame feels really solid in hand, almost like an aluminum reel, it doesnt have the hollow feeling of older Magnesium reels. The Met B is good for just about anything. Its light weight and casting ability make it great for JBs
  12. It could be that they just changed the plastic Reins products have been great quality wise as long as Ive been using them, I hope they dont start to slip. They probably changed the plastic formula or just the color for whatever reason. The difference in color isnt night and day, but its noticeable on the little 3" baits. Once you get to the 4 and 5" the difference could be much more significant. The original bluegill was a cloudy smoke, the newer ones are more translucent. Odds are it wont change the effectiveness of the bait. I just dont know why they would change one of there most popular colors.
  13. Bobby is anomaly in the tackle business, but in a great way. If your not happy with the product he makes it right and then some.
  14. I find the V2 to be smoother then Suffix. Check out Berkley X5, its textured and thinner then other braids in similar lb test which makes it cut through grass really well, while still having good knot strength.
  15. I think Arbogast made that yellow color up to a few years ago if its the one Im thinking about. It schoolbus yellow with a few different color stripes on it.
  16. Depends where your fishing and the SH itself. Some SHs have their line ties at the bottom of the head, which makes the knot susceptible to damage, especially around rocks and concrete. Normally I use 6-10lb Red Label or AbrazX as a leader with braid, but when Im fishing rocks or concrete pilings with a low line tie I'll use good leader material like Blue Label.
  17. I been using these on the pond magic booyahs since I was a kid. The newer ones dont have the garlic scent and the plastic seems a bit harder, but that could be my imagination.
  18. Ive been using Bubbling Shakers for years, probably my overall favorite do anything worm. I had ordered a bunch of replacements and I noticed that the Bluegill color is now more transparent then the older ones. Its subtle, but definitely noticeable and when held in front of a light the difference is obvious. The new baits were in 3", I imagine the difference will be much more noticeable with the bigger shakers. Did anyone else notice this?
  19. If theres a Dicks near you check out the 13s rods. For the money there awful hard to beat.
  20. Really? Thats what I figured they would cost if they were made in Mexico. The Avids are 210-240 I think without the SCVI. I figured they would be about 300$. I hope they can get a bunch of them out soon so I can snag 1.
  21. The Bass X is a good rod, but the SCIII blank that the Mojos use is higher quality. The SC III gives you a crisper action at a lighter weight which makes the Mojos more sensitive then the Bass X. Both are good rods, but the Mojo is more then worth the extra 20 or 30$.
  22. I feel like the 13 Muse M F is more sensitive then the older Avids without the ART and matches or is slightly more sensitive then the newer 1 I have. I think the blanks are very similar, weight and action wise, with the SC having a little more power. The full cork grip and the painted blank of the SC makes the Avid slightly heavier then the Muse. The biggest difference IMO is that the Muse balances better with lighter reels. IDK if the EVA transfers vibration better then cork or if the reel seat on the Muse, but I feelthere is enough of a difference that I use my Muse over the Avids for bottom contact. Its good that its being made in the US, but that likely means its a 250-350$ price point.
  23. I love my Avids, but I havent bought a new 1 for years. There are several rods at a lower price point that can = or surpass the sensitivity of the Avids. I wonder if theyre going to build these in Mexico to offset the cost.
  24. Some hi floating cranks especially balsa cranks with no rattle or weight system need a lot of weight to suspend. The action of the bait is affected as well and usually in a negative way when its covered with lead. For Shad Raps I drill a hole in the bait and fill it with lead in small increments, until I get the buoyancy I want. Its a pain in the neck, but its worth the effort.
  25. Thats what I assumed, but you know what they say about that...If theres a Dicks Sporting Goods near you see what they have. They should at least carry the Omens which is a really good rod IMO. I know you guys don't get ice out till late in Iowa, but if you wait till late Feb-March you may be able to catch a sale. Good luck
