Any advice on freeloading tenant
This guy thinks he's really slick (and, in some ways, I'm force to admit, he is). He bullied a co-renter into leaving and, as I mentioned already, changed the locks without permission. He's not the kind of person you would trust with anything. He has a rap sheet (we found out) with at least 3 convictions (retail theft, burglary, forgery). My girlfriends mistake was not doing a thorough enough background check.

Any advice on freeloading tenant
I'm a little cornfuzed about the whole 30 day notice thing. Is the person supposed to be out within 30 days of the notice of eviction? Or do you have to wait 30 days from the end of the lease, for example, before you can serve the notice. This question may seem awfully dumb but I've never dealt with these sorts of matters before (Thank God!)

Any advice on freeloading tenant
I was thinking of inviting the University of Illinois rugby or hockey team to have an extended party there but I doubt there'd be anything left standing afterwards. ;D It might be worth it, though.

Any advice on freeloading tenant
This isn't for me, actually. It's for my girlfriend. But as I care about her, it's bothering the %$@ out of me! My girlfriend has been renting a condo to this guy. He was at least a month behind in paying his rent and now he insists on staying there beyond the terms of the lease. Next week it will be a month beyond the lease. (It has been made clear to him that she wants him out). In addition, he has evidently changed the locks on the door without permission as her key no longer works (something he also did earlier-again, without permission). My question is, do you all know of anything legal that she can do to compell him to leave voluntarily? (Believe me, I've already fantasized about at least a dozen illegal things-it's wonderful until I step back into reality). She's given up any hope of recovering any past due rent. This all gets on my very last nerve. If someone steals your bike, you can have him arrested. If they shoplift in your store, same thing. But if they refused to pay rent and refuse to leave-even after the lease is up, there's little one can do without a lengthy and costly eviction process. Don't even get me started on my opinion of lawyers!

What are these Bass DOING!
If casting directly to them spooks them, can you drift a soft plastic in their direction? Is there enough current to do that?

skipping a baitcaster
It's tough to do. As with every potential backlash, the line slows down rapidly (only more often with each time the bait hits the water)-causing the spinning spool to "overtake" the line leaving the spool. I agree with Roadwarrior. Get a spinning outfit if you plan to do a lot of skipping. Or you might wind up literally skipping the baitcaster across the water after you've experienced one too many backlashes.

old and washed up...
Just how old are they? Before you trash or give away anything, you should check to see if they are valuable from a collector's perspective. You appear to be a young whippersnapper, however, so "old" may be 5 or 6 years.

Yeah, it's odd how that works.

Laser Lure
Didn't Dr. Evil equip the sharks in his diabolical shark tank with lasers? Did they catch more fish? Austin Powers never said. He's obviously not a fisherman.

What got you hooked?
I'm enjoying reading all of these so much I had to say so. I was concerned the thread would get buried in other threads before everyone had a chance to contribute. But it looks like my worries were unwarranted. I get warm fuzzies reminiscing how I got started and it's apparent many/most of you all feel the same way. I want to start a related thread but I don't want distract from this one. I'm enjoying it too much. Thanks all and keep 'em coming!

WHAT HAPPEN TO GOD
Nobody can be on top of every game. Not even KVD. But I'm sure his decisions weren't uninformed, wild guesses. I didn't catch any of the post-game coverage. Did he talk about what he did differently than the leaders? Did he fish the backwaters? Were his tactics a lot different? If anyone feels comfortable providing a synopsis, I'd love to hear.

Pike
Es macht nichts what lure you use but generally, the bigger the bait, the bigger the pike (to a greater or lesser degree). Bigger baits necessitate heavier gear, however. Immediately after ice-out is supposed to be a good time to catch the big ones. Generally speaking, the longer the cast, the better your chances of getting a big one to bite-they will often follow a bait some distance before they feel inclined to bite. I'm hardly an expert but that's been my observation.

What is your favorite fishing situation?
I've got so many I can't decide. Umm....let's see. Maybe casting buzzbaits on flats an hour before dark. Or twitching a superfluke or sluggo in and around lilly pads. Or working a rebel crawdad around blowdowns for smallmouth.
-
WHY IS IT???
I guess we all have our fishing poison/addiction. I would suggest that somebody do their PhD dissertation on the baitmonkey phenomenon except academia sucks all the life and joy out of everything. It matters less that your dissertation is boring than if you followed APA guidelines correctly.

Lures that DON"T work??
Not to say buzzbaits always work. Obviously they don't. But you might try this: Instead of making a single cast where you believe there ought to be fish, make numerous casts-even to the exact same spot. Buzzbaits are great at "aggravating" bass into biting. I love 'em-especially if you can get them to make a nice metallic squealing sound (you'll know the sound when you hear it).

Lures that DON"T work??
Maybe they are out of tune.

Transom saver necessity?
For no apparent reason I am not always notified about responses to some threads. I'll have to check into this. So Catt, you're saying I probably have less to worry about with the transom (with a 25 horse evinrude) than I do the transom clamps on the outboard itself? I'd sure hate to lose that puppy going down a road. Either way, it sounds like a transom/clamp saver is worthwhile, huh?

Can you take the course by correspondence or via the internet?

What did you catch your personal best on?
I don't know but it must have had magical properties because by the time I got the bass to the boat, it had grown to over twice it's original size. ;D

Unbelievable
Nearly half of the legal profession would wither and die on the vine if people were actually held personally accountable for their own stupidity. But Americans in particular have a couple of misperceptions: First, that if something goes wrong, it can't possibly be their own fault. Second, that companies are nameless, faceless monsters that are somehow responsible for everything bad that happens in the world. I'm not saying that cigarettes aren't bad for you or that cigarette companies don't know that. But I've never heard of a cigarette company holding a gun to someone saying, "smoke this or else!" It's sad when anyone dies but if I knowingly choose to ingest something that increases that possibility, I've got noone to blame but myself.

What got you hooked?
My dad used to take me and my siblings to a pay lake when I was very young. After he died, there wasn't anybody to take me so I rode my bike (or walked) by myself down to a bridge about 2 miles from home on a dusty country road. Little more than a creek that widened and deepened at the bridge, it offered up some feisty little bullheads and the occasional bluegill. At that time I had in my possession probably only one or two lures. One was a creme plastic worm with a propeller harness. I have no idea where I got it. I had never used it before (at least not with any luck) but on this particular Saturday I tied it on and cast it as far as my zebco 33 would allow. It landed in a weedy area where the creek narrowed. After a few cranks of the reel, something grabbled my bait. I really don't remember the fight but when I pulled it up, it was a grass pike about 12 inches long. I was afraid to touch it (something that had pointy teeth and shaped like a snake couldn't be safe). I was simultaneousy afraid and intrigued. It wasn't a bass, of course, but it was my first introduction to a "gamefish" and I haven't looked back (except with nostalgia) since.
