  1. It could be a number of things. Are you using soft plastics? Maybe you aren't setting the hook hard enough. Or perhaps you aren't keeping enough tension on the line/fish and the fish shakes it free. Or, as Retiredbsn said, maybe your rod is too stiff or your line not stretchy enough (or both) and the fish tears off. Or it could be that the fish you catch are light biters and you are only hooking them on the outside edge of their mouths. Or maybe you use too heavy of a lead weight with a carolina rig. Or your hooks aren't sharp enough. As I said, it could one of many things.
  2. $ex. Or maybe that's just me.

  5. A couple of questions: How big of a trolling motor should you mount on an arc? Would a 24 volt system be necesary? Also, can you run a transducer through the hull of gopher wood?
  6. After being caught behind hundreds of MTD buses as they stop at every blinkety blank city block, it really grates on my nerves to spend even more time waiting for folks to load and unload their bikes. Just a pet peeve of mine.
  7. A & P News release - An especially virulent strain of swine flu can be contracted simply by watching the movie Deliverance! (Hint - Squeal like a pig!!!)
  8. You can use your lacrosse stick for netting your fish. Well, at least the smaller fish.
  9. Nope, not Neoprene but may still work. Does it dry semi-flexible? Thanks for the idea/suggestion.
  10. Ha!!! Whippersnapper!!! I'd never heard that name before!!! Too funny!!! ;D
  11. Gang, My Browning chest waders have sprung several small leaks where the boot meets the fabric. I've considered trying a regular patch but the roughness (unevenness) of the area and the number of small leaks makes me wonder if there isn't a better alternative. A friend suggested liquid PVC but it's pricey and has pretty toxic fumes. Any ideas?
  12. Ditto. I wish I had the luxury of choosing when I get to fish. But I don't (not really anyway) so the lunar table doesn't factor in. Am not sure I believe in it anyway. If you had the luxury of choosing when you get to fish....wouldn't it be...ALWAYS! ?? It would for me.. ;D ;D ;D Perhaps not always but purtnear.

  14. Hands down, my answer is smallies. But like most everyone who has responded, I'd fish for them more if there were more places to fish them.

"Huge": Any fish you lost and never actually saw more than a glimpse of. "I think I got a hit": What you say every time your lure bounces off a rock or stick. "Florida Strain bass": The term you use to describe your buddy's dink fish (see also "Wallhanger") "You should've been here yesterday!": The oft heard expression after getting skunked.
  16. She (Susan) has some pretty good pipes. It's difficult to argue that. But I can see where Dominion Dan is coming from too. There's plenty of hype going on here. A portion of it comes from the surprise of hearing something so pleasant coming out of a "frumpy" woman's mouth and everybody loves an underdog. If you don't mind my putting words in your mouth, I think that's what DD is railing against -the hype. It was difficult to even hear Susan with all the screaming from the audience. I wish I could find other songs she's done to form a better opinion.
  17. The crappie rig has done it again! My brother and I went out this past weekend and caught another 35 crappie + 2 bass + 1 (one) 4 lb channel cat. (We released all of them). Only this time I/we used a marabou jig rather than a deerhair jig. The bite was much better when the wind was blowing than after it calmed. I broke off on something pretty big but that may have been more a factor of damaged line than size of fish. All I know is my bobber made a fast exit down into the depths. Ah, c'est la vie!
  18. I interpreted his thoughts for an adhesive was to bolster the strength of the transom. But maybe he wants to seal it against leaks? 32251, What's your goal? Also, If you use a strong adhesive, you might never get the wood off again if you ever need to replace it again. Something to think about.
  19. Hmmm..good question. Are there any structural engineers in the house?
  20. About how far below the bobber is the jig ? Well, usually around 3 feet but it depends on where the crappie are. Of course, the deeper you go, the more difficult it is to cast. I prefer to put the jig above them. I think crappie prefer to swim up to feed as opposed to going deeper. I may be wrong but that's my guess.
  21. I'd seen something like what you describe on Bill Dance numerous years ago. I've been meaning to try it.
  22. It's going to go even higher... Buddy at post office says it schedule to hit 65 cents by January 2010 Well we are talking about Postal Workers and the price of ammo IS up. Too funny! ;D
  23. I'm not an outstanding crappie fisherman but I have found a pretty good method method for catching big crappie. It's simple enough. I suspend a 1/16 oz deer hair jig under a bobber. It seems to work the best when there's a bit of a chop on the water to impart some action. Most of the time the hit is on the initial fall or shortly thereafter but not always. Most of my largest crappie have been caught using this method.
  24. That's one pond I wouldn't share with my grandmother. So, no. Don't tell anyone its location. Nice bass!!!! If I went fishing without a shirt, I'd die of hypothermia within an hour. Dang! This has been a winter that will not let go!!!!
