  1. Fishbear, can you get on plane with those 3 motors? ;D
  2. The narrator describes the yellow boat as arriving to protect the stricken crew but it looks more like it almost runs their sorry butts over.
  3. Using a journal can (hopefully) help me become attentive to what's going on around (and under) me Plus it's a fun way to revisit past outings-especially during these long winter months. A trip down memory lane can be an awesome pick-me-up. This year I think I'll use my laptop and download images of each outing as well as keep a journal.
  4. To quote Cartman from South Park, "I'm not fat! I'm big boned!" I used to have a "tapeworm metabolism." No more, I'm afraid. Well, if you want to gain some wait, just wait a few more years. It'll come naturally. :'(
  5. And I thought I was quirky! It's not really a quirk but on every trip it's (apparently) mandatory that I miss at least one turn and be required to turn around.
  6. Umm...Not professing to know everything about GPS (or geometry)but why would the marks be off? The relative distance from three (or more) sattellites should be the same, shouldn't it? Please explain. :-/
  7. A few questions you may want to ask: What distance do you expecting to be traveling? Do you or will you be using the truck for anything besides pulling a boat? Comment: With gas prices being what they are, you should be able to get a decent used truck for a lot less than a new one.
  8. I've never heard of a variation in temperature killing fish. Rendering them hard to catch, yes, but not killing them. Not as you described anyway. Could it be some other explanation?
  9. Short field landing, I assume?
  10. I am going to follow the lead of the ancient egyptians. I'm going to have a pyramid (albeit a small one) erected where I will be buried. In it will be placed all the things I need in the afterlife. I'm sure it'd be hard to find virgins who would be willing to buried with me (or virgins at all for that matter) so I guess my fishing stuff will have to suffice. p.s., No grave robbers allowed. Go buy your own fishing stuff!
  11. Its probably silted in. I would guess that if the channel is silted in, it would probably show up as a soft(er) bottom than the surrounding area. Depends, I guess, on how wide/deep the silt is distributed. Would that be a reasonable conclusion?
  12. Bah Humbug!!! Just more scientists riding on the global warming cash wave! Let's see, maybe I could get some of that grant money. What should I study? The effects of global warming on the lemonade stand industry.
  13. I'm not sure I'd recommend a Canon. I have/had a powershot A70 and it freaked out on me (apparently a widespread problem with the powershots). Canon said they will fix it and I've mailed it in for said repairs but nevertheless, I can't give Canon a full vote of confidence anymore.
  14. I was going to walk away but I couldn't. For those of us who really love to fish for bass (or whatever the heck you want to call them), nomenclature becomes part of the game. No one was calling anyone onto the carpet and no one's feelings were hurt-until now anyway. It was just in good fun. That's all I'll say.
  15. Technically, Largemouth, Smallmouth, and spotted bass (and a few of the others) aren't bass. They belong in the sunfish family. I tend to fish for largemouth only because more waters have them. But I love smallmouth. In a cage match, a smallmouth will take a largemouth any day of the week. They are prettier, too.
  16. Thanks for the link! I didn't see prices or which retailors carry them. Does BPS or Cabela's carry them? I think this would be a good investment.
  17. Good rule of thumb! Always remember to factor Murphy's Law into the equation. Also, and I'm sure you are aware of this already, your boat will run more efficiently when it's "on plane" and pushing less water.
  18. Gang, I like to anchor every now and again (especially on windy days) but the achor ropes always create a big tangled mess. Also, if I don't use leather gloves to lower/raise the anchor, I get rope burns. Ouch! Do you have recommendations as to a good achor pulley? Should I go electric? Are the hand crank models any good?
  19. My grammar used to bake me cookies when I went over to her house. Grandpa took me fishing.
  20. I especially love when he can't reach over the side of the boat to retrieve the fish!
  21. None of the above. Whenever my friend catches a small bass, I always say either "That's a wallhanger there!" or "I believe you've caught yourself a Florida strain bass." ;D
  22. Yes, parody. He's laughing at himself...and the rest of us.
  23. Ah, to have passion! There are, perhaps, things of greater or deeper philosophical significance but IMHO, there are few better things a person can ask for than to have passion for something. In agreement with BiggerWorm, there's nothing wrong with passion as long as one's other responsibilities are being met. My passion is being deferred with the cold and the snow. Blech!

This is exactly what I was thinking. Though I won't vow to fish naked or standing on my head. If the lip is loose and you put some in between and press the two pieces together, it could help but putting it on the surface?...Wouldn't help.
