Spinning reel (with BB) maintenance
BigBassBob, Actually that is a sales article for the product they use over there in OZ. It isn't really giving any cleanup instructions. The article from Shimano® that michbass posted is a better one. Either way if you have never opened a spinning reel up, don't without the schematic. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

Hi everyone, need some help, noisy bait caster.
This to me would be the result of a dry shim with a high speed spool shaft end rotating on and off of it. Are you real lose on your cast control cap setting?Reason, there should be no lateral movement of the spool. Before setting the free spooling rate (Cast Control), adjust the CC cap so that there is no lateral movement of the spool, this is to be your zero (0) adjustment. From there you can tighten, but do not loosen from that zero adjustment. It does nothing but cause undo wear and tear on the spool shaft and bearing shims, not to mention make some strange noises. This may be part of the problem. Not using a type of reel can make you listen differently to the workings of the reel. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Hi everyone, need some help, noisy bait caster.
Yea in assembly line production they have an orientation that the stack should be in. But sometime shims get turned over, in the hurry up mode they are constantly in... You would think with all the hype the JDM's get around here you wouldn't hear about noisy Daiwa Itö reels. I just got done putting one back together for a member here (RedlineRobert) that had sit for 4 months waiting on side covers to be anodized. The parts were cleaned and placed in baggies for that time, when the reel was re-assembled with lubrication as I would with all reels, no noise and plenty of free spooling. Can you describe the noise this reel has made since day one? The oil that came with the reel should be used, if none availible, I have the oil I use availible in my supply shop on-line it is the same as Shimano's.. lubina, has given you good info if your intent on changing the bearings out.. I never recommend bearing changes to higher ABEC ratings, unless you need the rotation speed for casting competitions...Also if you do change to a higher rated bearing you will need a much lighter viscosity reel oil and re-lube more often... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Whats up with this?
Probably 2 completely different reels. There are 2 Accurist that Quantum makes. One is the Accurist CX: 5 Bearings | ACS II | Ceramic Drag | Flippin' Switch | 6.2:1 Gear Ratio Available with left-hand retrieve, and 3 different color (Red, Gold, Blue) it runs from 69.00 to 79.95 Accurist PT: 5 PT Bearings | ACS II | Ceramic Drag | Flippin' Switch | 6.2:1 Gear Ratio Available with left-hand retrieve it runs a little higher in the 100.00 range Tight Lines!!!

Spinning reel (with BB) maintenance
I have my book on table top maintenance for baitcasters, but haven't had time to write one on spinning reels. I would recommend that you get a copy of the schematic for the reel look it over and make the decision as to whether or not you want to jump into it. It's definitely not like opening up a baitcaster... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Hi everyone, need some help, noisy bait caster.
DO NOT change the orientation of the shims for the palming plate bearings. The order is the copper first, then the ceramic (smooth side up), then the oil ring (keeps the ceramic shim oiled), then the bearing pack. The bearing that is probably making the noise is the spool support bearing behind the engagement T. If you try to take this bearing off of the spool shaft, don't bend the T or score the shaft... Shimano Curados, 101 and 201?
FishTank, Exact same reel as the first 201 you had. The only difference in the SF as apposed to any other Curado is that the SF has a bearing supported pinion gear, and a short spool shaft on the spool. Other wise same reel as a stock curado 201.hogwire, Maybe... :-? Actually the better the spool support bearings used in the reel the easier it is to cast any weight lure. Also as long as the reel is matched to the right rod rated for the lure intended. Tight Lines All!!!

Browning? What? HUH????
Just a little clarification here. No one owns Browning® except Browning®. BPS is the Registered Distribution Licensee to the Browning® Brand and that is rods/reels and some tackle. Also Browning® builds Browning® reels and rods nobody else. Back in the late 90's Quantum® was the manufacture for the reels and some rod series. That has since changed.... Why All the Revo Love?
Cephkiller, Because they finally got it right. Less parts in the assembly means less parts to brake down. The reels are of a better design less is best. The Revo 1600 series reel is going to be a workhorse LP reel in the same way the rounds have always been. If one looks at the older schematics for the round reels and looks at the schematics for the Revo you will see a lot of similarities. The best part is that all of the new Revo's are basically the same internally. The main differences are the bearing counts and gear ratios (drive and pinion gears), all of the reels use the same set-plates..Just my .02¢ Tight Lines!!!!

Top performing reel for Spinner/Buzzbaits
SPEEDBEAD, I would say 30' is a decent cast for buzz and spinner baits. I have done a lot of buzz and spinner baiting on 6'6" and 7' med to medium heavy fast tip rigs. I like to have the rod were the lure weight I am using, is in the middle of the rods lure ratings. I throw and slow roll a lot of 3/8oz to 1/2oz spinnerbaits, mostly 3/8oz buzzbaits. The further I try to cast spinner and buzz baits the less accurate the cast gets. Tight Lines!!!!

How bout ReelMagic reelmech?
I am a 25 year factory trained technician, what do you expect...If your going to lube and basic service your own reels, then do it with the right lubricants, or send it off to have it done right... No it isn't. But you keep looking at lubricants that aren't suited for fishing reels. There are plenty of sites that carry, the proper lubrications for fishing reels. Besides that you should get a small bottle of the Shimano® reel oil in the box for your new Citica, use it sparingly then when that is gone try mine if you want, it's basically the same oil... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

How bout ReelMagic reelmech?
dsaavedra, I don't use it or recommend that anyone use it to service/lubricate their reels with. Now with that being said if you need to do any of the following: Retards line memory Softens and extends line life Reduces icing on rod guides Retards fading and corrosion on Crank baits Keeps spinnerbait skirts supple and tangle free Waterproofing allows flies to float higher and longer Then by all means use it on your line, but again never for lubricating the reel.

Top performing reel for Spinner/Buzzbaits
SPEEDBEAD, Nice chatting with you on the land line.... When you say a Loooong way, how far is a long way for you. You do have to take into consideration the wind resistance of the baits. Most any model reel should be able to cast a spinnerbait or buzzbait a decent distance, within reason, when properly setup and matched to the right rod... Also if your in a boat move up on the target some, if bank bound and can move up on the target some, do so. To much distance with the wrong line, the reel won't matter you won't be able to set the hook anyway... Tight Lines!!!

Reel help!
Garcia 5500CL3 schematic.. A couple three things could have happened. Depending on the run number on the reel foot uderside. The reel has a return spring at the release arm for the pinion yoke. It could have broke. The release arm could be jumping up under the reachet return plate and binding until the button is pulled back out. The pinion yoke pressure plate has a small return spring in it could have failed. IMPO Needs serviced do not use it again until you do. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Magnetic Brake...How to Use
I gave you the link to a quality reel cleaner and lubrication in a previous reply in this thread..No gun oil viscosity is to high (meaning the oil is to thick) and will slow your reels functions down... WD-40 is only good at removing organic substances from moving metals to free them up. It's so called corrosion retardants are from the film it leaves behind... I don't know why it's on the pen package, it has been on the paperwork included with the cans for eons. But that doesn't mean it was made for fishing gear..... In the lubrication of fishing reels, the lubrication in them is the oil that is used on the bearings and some of the gears. The corrosion resistance that is needed is on the main drive and pinion gear teeth. You really need to read up on basic reel maintenance I am factory trained and have been servicing reels for 25 years and stand behind all of my replies... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
