  1. vicdotcom It would be better if you replace the pawl with the proper one. The three that you get at the other price probably won't fit properly. I don't have any pawls for the 750PT in my bins, so I would have to order the HV4072-02 Worm Shaft Kit also.
  2. Oh no don't think that... Didn't you know it is the BLING factor that catch's fish.... 8-) Tight Lines!!!
  3. vicdotcom, What is the manufacturer and model number of the reel? Got a schematic?
  4. If you purchase one.... I have been in touch with them on several service issues with that reel, and have been told that owners with any type of issues with the reel should contact Shimano CS Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  5. About what? What would you recommend for fishermen that are using their equipment for both freshwater and light saltwater fishing. IMPO If you can don't use your dedicated freshwater reels in any salt at all...... Saltwater reels are lubricated, and sealed for that environment. If using a freshwater reel in salt then immediately after returning, completely break the reel down clean and re lube. Even if using a reel setup for salt it is always a good idea to rinse it clean, dry, and re-lube the exterior parts each trip. ;D You wouldn't believe how many times, I have opened a freshwater reel that had been used inshore, and found salt corrosion in screw holes, "a" spring retainer holes, and in the corners of frame sides. .... You have to completely break the reels down and soak them (every part) in a good degreaser that is warm, to lift the fungus and any moisture. Tight Lines All!!!
  6. I don't care how mechanically inclined you are..[br]Never open up any fishing reel without the schematic close by. I only service Shimano®, Daiwa®, Garcia®, Quantum® reels...If needed send this reel, to Outdoor World Rod & Reel Repair (pg7 master catalog), or BPS. Tight Lines!!!!
  7. pfluemis, That's great! Remember to check that setup every time you change lure sizes and weights. Then practice, practice, practice! Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  8. the_Conceited_ReDnEcK, IMPO High Speed oil on High Speed (ABEC5 and up) bearings. On any other style bearing, it's a waste of money and time. High Speed oils have a real lite viscosity (almost like water) and on standard ABEC3's its to lite and doesn't afford enough protection and lubrication.Just my .02¢ Tight Lines!!!!
  9. Bassn Blvd, Need to learn how to resize your pics to half their size before posting... It isn't Garcia' fault!!! We had the same problems with the local Sportsman Warehouse employee spooling Quantum PTs with to much tension, and to high of a speed, and would blow out the lightweight ported spools. Finally got the word out to the local anglers that when they purchased a reel with such a lightweight spool to learn how to spool the reel their-self. The problems stopped.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  10. I'm sorry but I have to disagree here. No grease on any movable parts on the exterior of the reel. Reason, grease is a sticky substance and the worm gear and pawl need a clean smooth surface to run on. Gear grease will allow all of the contaminating elements in the air, from road dirt, to really fine dust, to accumulate in the groves of the worm gear which will intern cause the pawl to wear and stop working properly.. So grease on main and pinion gears, 1 drop oil on all bearings and bearing shims, oil (only) on the worm gear and pawl assembly, handle paddles, drag star threads, cast control cap threads, etc. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  11. pfluemis, Try a little reading it may point to what you haven't done in the rod/reel setup..... Casting reels from many moons ago are not the same as to days reels.... Basic Baitcast Reel Setup 101 Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  12. LakeFork only does Shimano®... SouthWestern only does Garcia®, Zebco®, Shimano®, Daiwa®, Mitchell®, Shakespeare®, Penn®, and Okuma®... Pflueger® is a proprietary company, meaning you only have the reels serviced through them at the address I posted or one of their satellite centers. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!!
  13. Between $10 and $54 per guide. A wild guess- about $100-$150 for a casting set up, depending on guide types. For you, RW, it's somewhere between pocket change and lunch money! ;D Those are also a Titanium Alloy Frame, Solid Gold Ceramic Ring (Not Plated) - Diamond Polished. The tip tops in a #7 lite casting/spinning run upwards of $20.75, and the standard #8 cast/spin run $26.31 ea. Most builders don't even stock these puppies, they are so pricy... Tight Lines!!!!!
  14. Ya know what I really don't care if you use this junk in your reels, or what the stores say it is... What does the label say???? It's been one of Blakemores junk products for decades...
  15. Welcome To The Forum!!! Just like stated, "Best" is a subjective term. Subjective to one's personal preference's and budget restraints. Just no getting around it... A budget range would help. Tight Lines !!!
  16. A lot of anglers read this and think it will improve my casting distance because it will lube the reel along with the line. Wrong the only thing that will improve the casting distance in a BC reel is the cleanliness and the quality of the spool support bearings, and this stuff isn't a bearing lube....Why are you rinsing your reels??? Are you dumping them into the water to free up your casting distance. Have you dropped them into the deep mud? You don't rinse a freshwater reel with water. In the reel's manual they should be stating you rinse any freshwater reel that has been used in any brackish/salty fishing environments, then dry until you can breakdown the reel and service it immediately each time used in this environment. KVD' line conditioner, is just that a conditioner for the line nothing more. There are only 2 lubricants that should be used in a freshwater fishing reel, a quality oil and gear grease, and should only be used in the proper places in the reel. Just my .02¢ Tight Lines All !!! Hmm... Do you think ReelMech really knows anything about reel maintainance? : According to most probably not..... mindtrix et all, It would be real nice if you users of that junk at least get the name right, it's NOT reel magic, it is "Real Magic". It is as I have stated for years... A line lubricant!!!! Tight Lines All!!!!
  17. You all know we have gone through all this before..... 18. I have never experienced or even heard of this problem before, but as ReelMech suggests, TAKE IT BACK! I would NOT consider "fixing" a brand new G.Loomis. Ohhh sorry RW that should have been a response to the Kistler comment... But even so, If I had a Loomis® rod and the reel didn't seat properly ,the rod would go back and keep doing so until they got it right, and I didn't have to wrench a reel into the seat.. Tight Lines All!!
  19. Brokejew, The reel seat problem is due to an old style Fuji seat (ECS) that had rear hood issues. The newer models of Fuji seats (ECS II) have dealt with this problem. If I had a Loomis rod that the reel wouldn't tighten down on I would exchange it, and, keep on doing so until I did get a good fitting reel seat on my rod. The easy fix is like Raul suggested a piece of tape on the rear of the reels foot. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  20. Your right I don't change the size or shape of any internal parts in the reel. If that happens the part is replaced. But then I was trained by the top 2 factories (Shimano® & Daiwa®), and, I understand the tolerances these reels are built with.I have been doing super tunes for free for some 15 of the 25 years that I have been servicing reels, and many of the anglers don't even notice that I have polished, (not machined) the free spool friction points in their reels. Knowing what reels actually need and will benefit from the tuneup being done is the main key... Just a side note here, the super tuning of reels was and is still only for the older reels that weren't bearing supported, and needed a boost in the casting arena. The reels of today really don't need to be tuned in this manner.. Tight Lines All !!!
  21. Like Raul pointed out on the reels from the 60's and 80's the drags were of different materials than in to days reels. On to days reels you have to have the drags tightened to get the spool to turn, setting them to loose will allow the crank to be turned but their won't be enough downward pressure on the drag stack to help turn the drive gear/spool. I use my thumb in conjunction with my drag. Tight Lines!!!
  22. slawdawg, Welcome To The Forum! Lots of great info here, that can be summed up with three words. What the guys are saying is it's fishing, and tackle needs, are all personal preference, and budget. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  23. Daniel My Brother, There all good reels if you keep um up.Tight Lines All !!!!
  24. Sorry I have been busy building rods... Yeah.. The reel could have been a return that was put back on the table for the clearance sale.I am betting the shims on both ends of that reel are old ones and with all the heavy adjusting you keep doing to try and stop the over runs. They have dented (dimpled) to a point were you really don't have any Cast Control Adjustments. Once you get the cast control out of alignment, via dimpled shims then the spool doesn't adjust and rotate in the brake case's brass race properly, causing the brakes to not be engaged with the race, and fail to slow the rotation of the spool. Variable Brake System (VBS) is what the poster is talking about.
