  1. Hunkabilly, Welcome To The Forum!!!! It all in the proper balance between the rod and the reel. If you'll read the article linked by Fishin-Psyantist on the rod and reel setup, then practice you'l be good enough by spring to really get into your new BC reel. Good Luck & Tight Lines In 08 !!!!
  2. You would be best served sending it to one of their service centers in your neck of the woods....... REEL PERFECTION 700-B WISE AVE. DUNDALK, MD 21220 (410)388-0586 SEA HAWK SPORTS CENTER 643 OCEAN HWY, POCOMOKE CITY, MD 21851 (410)957-0198
  3. Never heard of it... If it doesn't have the name: Tour Edition PT, Energy PT, Accurist PT, Accurist CX, Mantra, Xenon, Classic MG, Iron, 1310, Pulse, Icon... It isn't one of Quantum's regular line-up, and is probably an exclusive for the store you saw it at, or a re-branded item. If so then the facory doesn't support it. If your looking at Quantum reels stick to the line up that is supported by the factory... Tight Lines!!!!
  4. Looks to be a 1960's or 70's era supreme. You won't use it. Notice no drags, I believe that when you cast that reel the handle spins also, we use to call them "knuckle busters"In FLOOG3 the oil port you have marked on the bottom of the reel by the bait clicker is actually a water drainage hole. The port you have marked, at the base of the crank stem is an oil port. The port you have marked at the end of the spool shaft is a oil port that lubes the spool shaft. The only reel grease that you will use on that reel is on the gear teeth only. One drop of oil on all spinning parts. That's it. Now that you have it cleaned and lubed I would place it on a shelf as a collectible.... FYI if you know the model number, goto this page and it will tell you exactly when it was built..http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/antiques/antiques-name.html Tight Lines On A Modern Reel!!
  5. What I said was the reels GR will work for the baits you listed, and 5.1:1 GR isn't necessarily just a crankin GR, it depends on the lure size and depth your working you could need a 3.8:1 or even a 4.5:1..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  6. Because it isn't part of the "Quantum® Arsenal", I would imagine they are a Ducks (Dick's) house brand, made exclusively for Ducks. This would be like the new Daiwa® Pro made exclusively for BPS. Should work for the baits you mention, as for cranks the gear ratio depends mostly on how big and deep your cranking. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  7. Near the end of the article that I wrote (Basic Baitcast Reel Setup 101) is a little lesson for educating the thumb that I have there it goes something like this... Enjoy and Practice, Practice, Practice.... Tight Lines!!!!
  8. I have to side with fourbizz. Why a DC reel on a flippin stick?IMPO that is over kill. Granted the reel is a nice reel and all, but that is a lot of b-ling for a system that your only hanging 15' of line from...Ohh unless it is doing double duty, and you intend to run some swimbaits on it.... Just a thought... Either way sounds like a great system, Enjoy! Tight Lines!!!!
  9. Welcome to the family!!!!!! The Daiwa oil you can get it from Daiwa Serv/Parts (562) 802-9589, Ext 8. The bottle that came with your reel should last you a while for your basic care. ReelMech changed the oil in all mine to his/Shimano oil a couple of years ago and this is what I've been using since. Highly recommended. The only situation that I use a different one is for the ceramic bearings. Don't mix different oils. Best luck Hector,Excellent advise there.........
  10. The disengagement of the spool when the drag is backed off, is normal. On your Shimano reels when you back the drags off, their is still enough pressure on the pads to be able to crank the reel as if you had the drags set. Again this is just a result of the differences in drags systems... You know no one has ever sent me a Zillion with the special oil and said use only this oil.....My oils that I use are the same as the Shimano oils and no one that has ever had me service a Zillion has ever complained, also they have never had to re-oil every outing. Unless your Zillion is using ABEC7 Ceramics, IMPO I see no reason to oil that often. Enjoy your new reel... Tight Lines In 08!!!
  11. I see. The Silicon must have been a release for the mold then. I was under the impression that the cast frames were done in centrificale molds. Oh well good luck on your re-mods... The most modding I have been doing lately is drag pad upgrades and bearing upgrades. Tight Lines in 08!!!
  12. Hey Robert, Are these going to actually get done, or turn out like the Itö did??
  13. Now all you have to do is make sure that you lube it the right way...
  14. You don't!! Clean the one-way roller and re-lube it while in the side plate.
  15. They both are fine reels, depending on your budget you will not go wrong with either.... Tight Lines!!!
  16. What can't any of you guys say petroleum products..... Crude is at an all time high, and most of what is produced today has a petroleum base in one form or another. Your going to see hikes everywhere..... ;D Tight Lines!!!!
  17. So no periodic oiling? :-? ;D Will do (unless I get caught in a massive rain storm ;D ). P.S. Sorry for all the questions. I'm just extremely picky about protecting/maintaining my investments. If you have the schematic and if you have done it before, you can remove the bearings now clean and re-oil (but don't lose the retaining clips), then you know for sure they have been done. Then the only time you might have to re-oil the bearings is if you notice a drop in your casting distance or accuracy. If you have never serviced (broken down) any of your reel/s, not a good idea to start on this reel, have it done.

Dave, I had an older version of that system when I was fishing tourneys as a none boater back in the early 90's. It gets real heavy if you load it up. So to get around having to lug all that weight and bulk, I started making up smaller systems geared to each lake I was fishing. You have been angling long enough to have a few bodies of water that you know well enough, to only have to carry a few lures and have a productive day. I would make smaller more efficient systems for each body of water. Just an idea.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  19. Looks like your dad is going after some large fish. I only hope he knows that 50lb test is over lining his rod by 2X's, and, that if he doesn't set the reels drags accordingly to absorb a lot of shock from heavy hook sets, he will probably snap the fast tip right off of that rod. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  20. Most bearings are only lubricated with one drop of oil anyway so what's there to escape. Yup that's right. Only you shouldn't have to do any lubricating of the bearings unless your using the reel in a super hot climate or heavy rain showers. Also never just drop new oil on top of old oil. You get 2x's the old oil. Always clean/rinse the bearing packs out before re-oiling. Remember only one drop per bearing pack. The reel was a gift this christmas. Use the reel this coming season, and at the end of the season ask me again. Any of the Shimano reels using AR-B's (Anti-Rust Bearings) will be open.Tight Lines!!!!
  21. Not a mistake. The shielded bearings in your Curado are Standard Stainless Steel, the easy maintenance-no shield design in the Chronarch AR-B's just allows for easy flushing of debris and easy lubrication.
  22. If the dirt/grime has had a few seasons to bake onto the reel, then you will need more than just a cleaner. You are going to need a butt load of elbow grease..... If new reel/s, then every trip out when finished wipe the reel/s down with warm water and dry well. Good Luck....
  23. flechero, That is great, but that is the quality of the service at Sportmans Wharehouse, they love me in the Wichita store. You know what all this has shown me? That the anglers of this forum, and others, need to get off their dead backsides and try actually walking into the stores to purchase there gear. That way there is never an issue you don't know about up front. Plus beware of all on-line catalog purchases...
  24. We got busy real quick when the snows hit the great North. Normally I have to sift through the junk to clean the folders out. If you are talking about e-mails for my rod work, then just make sure when you do e-mail me that you put a subject in the subject line, same with any reel work questions, I get a lot of e-mails that go straight to my trash for not having a subject line... I only have 4 e-mail addresses, resend the e-mail. Tight Lines All!!!
