  1. Ah man I don't know what to say..... cept, Thank You All for the kind words Hope you all had a great day, got what you wanted/needed. Tight Lines To You All In The New Year!!
  2. Not only the quality of the BB's, but the maintenance of the BB's. I a word YES!
  3. Ok there are only 3 BB's that affect the casting ability (free spooling) of the reel. These BB's are located 1 at the Cast Control, 1 located in the brake section of the palming plate, and then if the reel is a SF (Super Free) or a ST (Super Tune), there is a BB locate just behind the engagement T on the spool shaft, or located in the set plate (frame) of the reel, just under the pinion gear. Baitcasting reels with bearing counts above 3, have them located in the crank assemblies (handles, crank shaft end, etc., which give the reel a little smooother feel when cranking.
  4. Out of the hundreds I have owned, in the four brands that I service, my fav is..... My green 94 Curado CU201B, with out a doubt the best I have owned.... Tight Lines All!!!
  5. RobbyZ5001, Don't mess with it send it back. Remember in the 06 Shimano® Curado D, Citica D, Cruix, reels they had a tolerance problem, (this could be an 06 reel). That made the reels crank tight, and would cause the line carriage to bind up in the reels. There is a fix, but you would have to send it into Shimano® to have the upgrade placed in, or to me and I would have to get the upgrade in and install it. There are other reasons that your reel would be tight out of the box, Cast Control Cap to tight, brake blocks binding in the brake race, etc. Again send it back to the retailer for replacement, or send it off to Shimano® they won't charge you. Read the article here..... Shimano Offers New Levelwind System For Curado D, Citica D And Cruxis Baitcasting Reel
  6. RobbyZ5001, When I am going to store my gear for an extended length of time (3mo or more). I remove the reels from the rods. I loosen the drags, and remove the line (not necessary to remove the line unless you want to). I place the reel/s in old cotton tube socks to keep any moisture out, then place the reels in a carpet padded tackle box. The rods grips are cleaned, and the blank is rubbed down with my Birchwood Casey® silicone cloth, and hung buy their tip tops in my basement on coated cup hooks. Just the way I do it...... Tight Lines!
  7. Well written George.... Merry Christmas To All & Tight Lines In The New Year!!!
  8. If you have never opened one don't. Don't open the reel unless you have the schematic. If you don't have the schematic for the reel then you will have to contact Outdoor World Rod & Reel Repair to try and get one. They are the only service center that actually services/supports BPS reels. tbird, The articles from Heartland only touch on the subjects of service and were written by someone else. BTW he was one of my customers in the 90's, and thought he could be my across town competition...
  9. Start with this read... Basic Baitcast Reel Setup 101 Then lots of practice, practice, practice!
  10. For 11 years I paid the big bucks to fish in the rain with 10 rigs on the bow. Never had a problem with the reels getting wet. But they were serviced the right way just prior to the season starting, and I made sure that I dried them out at the end of every tournament. I never stored them in any containers that didn't absorb water from the reels. IMHO if your reels have been service properly, you store them right, they should hold up to just about any kind of fishing weather. Now i'm just a fair weather angler.....
  11. I made contact with Quantum one day, and asked about their signature reels, or the store re-brands they made. They told me that they didn't even support those reels. That reels (KVD 1000HXD) MSRP $99. The Tour's MSRP is $239, the Energy's MSRP is $189. I would say the new KVD 1000HXD, is really lacking somewhere inside for sure.... BTW they also have a spinning version in the same price range.
  12. Bass Xl, My service recommendations for reels that have had extensive saltwater exposure and/or those that have been submerged in saltwater. Lightly rinse reels with freshwater using a spray bottle. Avoid excessive water from a high pressure source (hose). Reason is that this could push salt, sand and/ or debris inside the reel. Wipe down the reel w/rag or towel after rinsing. This is a good practice after every salty fishing trip..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  13. CU200DHSV = 200D series, H= HEG, SV= Salt Version...Take care of the reel as recommended and it should be OK. Correct Shimano's A-RB bearings aren't shielded. I never paid attention the only reel I know of that even has CRBB's is the Zillion I think, all the others list standard BB's. I would say your making to much out of this. Service your reel as recommended.
  14. being able to crank the reel backwards (reverse)The back play we are talking about is on a baitcasting reel that shouldn't have any back play, in the 1 way bearing.
  15. L-B-H, I have serviced boxes full of Citica' and Curado's so far this fall LH and RH, PV' and SV's. I didn't see a hole lot of back play in any of those reels. That makes me want to ask, did you ask him if any of the "leftover stuff" were returns, it could have been a return and you just happened onto one.. Just my .02¢
  16. Nope no bad day!!!!! I stand by what I said. It is the whole system.
  17. Ok just for you, I did a call to my service supply rep at Daiwa®. The oil isn't so much a special oil, it is just a really light weight low viscosity oil. The bearings for the spool support are Stainless Steel, they do not know the ABEC ratings on them (the factory doesn't provide that information to the SC), and would as I do, assume them to be stock ABEC3's. YES, besides oil is only used on bearings. The frequency of oiling really isn't every trip out but, about every time you feel the reel not doing what you like. NO, I have serviced a few Steez reels and have used my oil in them with no ill affects, as a matter of fact they perform better... Yes to me it is.. According to the factory if they get to oily then just wipe them off and add some more. This goes against everything I teach. You don't add good lubrication on top of old/bad. Tight Lines!!
  18. flechero, is right it's called backlash...... How many different ways can you say "it's a bad reel setup", take the reel and reset the free spool and then set the spool brakes at about half. You will see what I mean. All this BS about braid blows me away, it doesn't matter whether it is braided or mono, or even fluorocarbon line, you still have to set up the ROD and REEL as a system. It is never just the reel and the line or just the line........
  19. Sounds like a reel setup issue. Either the brakes aren't doing their job, or the cast control is still a little to lose. Check the free spool drop setup. Just my .02¢
  20. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it. L-B-H tell the big guy to get a friggin life, and leave the board alone. Crips you no sooner get use to the way this thing works, and he's got to get the proverbial wrench out.. Glenn go take a nap!!!!
  21. You know how to keep from having to worry about that. Don't take them down all the way unless you have the schematic in front of you. Just my .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  22. jwo1124, Remember this.. Baitcasting reels, any bearing count over 3 (free spool support), the bearings are used in the crank assembly, to smooth the cranks feel. There are only up to 3 ball bearing packs, that affect the casting ability of any baitcasting reel. On spinning reels with big bearing counts, they are mostly used to help ease and smooth the crank torque out. Keep practice, practice, practicing all winter, and think about how ready you will be come spring, targets out in the yard (when it isn't snowing), will kept the eye and hand coordination sharp. Tight Lines!!!
  23. The HEG IMO was the brain child of the company, to help these reels in the salt water arena. The 200 DSV, and DPV, would all need the heaver quality cut gears, because of the main & pinion gear sizes, more so than the freshwater 100's and standard 100 & 200 D's. Short answer, you are not throwing big baits, nor are you trolling big baits, NO! From the Shimano® website.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!
  24. Maybe you should have posted and said something.....
  25. Most all of Shimano' baitcast cranks have a 70mm to 80mm crank radius. That's it. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
