  1. mobydick That's not good!!!! :-?I would agree that it should be returned for replacement, if your still interested in the reel. Finding a spring under a gear should never happen.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!!
  2. xxmurrxx Here's what I recommend... SPINNING REEL MAINTENANCE Tight Lines!!!
  3. This is interesting. We are talking Bantam 10's 50's 100's in the SG and XSG. They were the first of the Bantam reels designed after the Lew's BB1 series reels that Shimano® at the time was tooling. In the 80's Shimano® produced well over 25 different series of Bantam reels including the first left hand retrieve LP reels. Bantam Mag Plus, 15SG, 15XSG, 10X, 21SG, 50SG, 150SG, 150XSG, 250SG (also in LHR), 250SG XHS (also in LHR), 250X, 350 SG, 1500X Plus, etc.. These reels are nothing like today's reels, I see some of the silver series 100's thru 1000's. But be warned, now that they are discontinued and considered collectibles, there are no parts that cross over into today's reels, and, therefore the parts for these reels have expired (very few to none available). I have also recommended to many of the owners of these reels that should they use them, they should be relegated to very light duty reels only. Tight Lines !!!
  4. Great news, glad it has been resolved. I new it had something to do with that gear. Send kudos to your service tech.. Tight Lines All!!!
  5. Sorry I wasn't able to help. I know that if I were holding the reel I would have the answer in 2 seconds. Keep us informed as to what you did, and now just remember, don't open it up with out the schematic... Tight Lines!!!
  6. SkyChimp, I would recommend taking the reel to a local tackle shop with a service tech and have the reel looked at. I would rule out a noisy AR dog, as the C3 doesn't have the AR dog, it is a one way roller bearing system (IAR). If that is noisy then he took the reel down further than he is reporting.
  7. MN Basser, Which ever reel make sure it fits and feels good on the rod and in your hand. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  8. avid, Thats a real crack up...
  9. No matter what brand you decide on, take your rod and mount the reel on it to check the fit and feel of the system in your hands. IMPO in that price range I would go for the Citica 200.. Good Luck & Tight Lines !!!
  10. But he didn't do all that. Just loosened the thumbscrews and removed the crank side plate, and spool and oiled spool bearings. Then replaced the side plate and spool and started getting a clicking with free spool rotation and engaged retrieve rotation. I would almost have to say there is a bait clicker on this reel and it is turned on.
  11. It sure would be nice if Tackle Tour could get the review dates right, it is only 07/04/07. The line up is nothing really new just filling in some higher end gimmick line up holes, that are sure to get into some pockets... Won't see them until spring next year, so save your pennies. Your going to need them...
  12. Avid, You could try and re-lube the reel yourself. But if you send it to KS make sure the schematic is in the box. No schematic don't send it. Tight Lines!!!
  13. TheRedTorpedo, Ok I think I know what is clicking now. When you removed the gear to oil the bearing in the spool did you press the gear back into the hole all the way. I think the gear is spinning inside of the whole were the bearing is. Press the gear into position until it clicks. If no click then hold the gear and see if it is turning in the hole, if it is you will have to make the gear so it doesn't turn. Check it out.... David....
  14. TheRedTorpedo, First off never open any reel without the schematic being in front of you. Now with that out of the way... 8-) Only one question... :-? When you took the reel apart, did you remove the line carriage (the chrome piece that lays the line on the spool)?
  15. Been on the forum for 847 day's and don't remember that thread. There is a book, and video, and a ton of small articles showing different procedures on how to disassemble reels for cleaning, and re-assembly, should be easy to find them through google. Tight Lines!!!
  16. Doesn't matter, little dip, big dip, DON'T DIP!!! Dipping your reels isn't helping clean anything that was on the outside of the reel. Dipping into pond, lake, res., water isn't cleaning the reel. It isn't fresh water, it isn't clean water. The sand that gathered behind the rotor, on the bail arms, and on the side plate near the crank all get washed into the reel somewhere. Sooner than later you will start to feel the difference when you open and close the bail, and when you crank the reel. Tight Lines All!!!!
  17. Thanks Chris! In the mail......... Tight Lines!!!
  18. Does your reel have a ported (drilled) spool? If it does that would probably happen even if you were using mono line. Line gets water saturated, and when it is re-spool after every cast, it deposits water into the holes in the spool and onto the spool shaft, then it runs down into any of the spool support bearings. This rinses the oils out of the bearing packs and starts to hinder your casting distances. Many anglers compensate for this by backing off of the cast control cap, but that really isn't helping either. No it isn't..If it were you wouldn't have to keep dunking the reel every 4 or 5 cast, to get good performance. When ever a reel is dropped, dunked, for whatever reason, into the water it should be broken down, cleaned, dried, and re-lubed. Dunking isn't the same as a rain shower. Dunking is adding silt and whatever else the lake water is holding, into the reels gears and bearing packs.Tight Lines!!!
  19. Yes!! Oils & Grease Tight Lines!!!
  20. Abu garcia (Read 610 times) Here ya go from a month back I remember reading some were that Garcia® isn't swedish anymore, could be the reason for the close looks with the other reel mfg.Tight Lines!!
  21. wickyman, Garcia stock bearings in their reels are ABEC3. You would feel a difference from ABEC 3 to ABEC5-6-7, If you had a reel with ABEC5' and wanted 7's, there is were you probably wouldn't feel any difference. Remember with the higher tolerance bearings (ABEC5's and up) they need to be cleaned and re-oiled more often than the stock bearings. Tight Lines!!!
  22. Press the button and twist the cover. I forget which direction (old brain).. :-? Never pry.. Tight Lines!!!
  23. SteveFinMD, Here is a screen cap of your reels schematic, the red circles are the bearings that support the spool. These are the bearings that need to be re-lubed, also the shims behind them. You don't need to disassemble the reel to get to them. All you need is to remove the palming plate (#1) there is one in that plate, next remove the spool, look through the reel frame at the pinion gear hole, there is a bearing there (#17), next and final remove the cast control cap and there is a bearing (#59) there. After viewing this if you feel you don't want to hassle with it, then I would seek a service center in your area, or send it to me. Good Luck & Tight Lines All!!
  24. Excellent train of thought. Lube more and use less!!! Meaning lubricate the support bearings and shims more often, and use less oil when doing so. No matter whether or not they have been stored or used every week of the month. Tight Lines All!!!
  25. Really would like to know the model number of the reel. Sounds like the spool support bearings are dry. Locate and add one drop of oil to each bearing and the metal or fiber shims underneath them. This should get rid of the free spool screeching you hear. Tight Lines!!!
