Perfect pond with no big bass
Don't give up...years ago I fished a small ~2 acre pond. Caught a few 1-2 lb bass now and then. One day I was throwing the Slug-Go...BAM...8 lb largemouth!

Tackle Warehouse Delays or Good?
I ordered on Tuesday of this week...paid for 2 day shipping...tracking said would arrive on Friday (day three). Got home from work and the package was sitting on the porch! : ) First time I have ever ordered from TW. I will be ordering from them again! Local Cabela's and Bass Pro are horribly low on stock.

Had a buddy who worked for Cabela's back in the day. I haven't purchased a new rod in 25 years... How would you fish this lake(?)
Talked to a couple of guys who have landed 3-4 lb bass from this lake. Appreciate advice on pitching to timber. Talked to a couple of guys who have landed 3-4 lb bass from this lake. Appreciate advice on pitching to timber.

How would you fish this lake(?)
Thanks Rick. I like the idea of a swimming jig with paddle tail. I have caught a few on weedless fluke/houdini shad, unweighted with just a hook. Pitch it close to the trees and dead-stick it...then slight twitch. Lake is on outskirts of the metro area...tons of people and families walking the paved trail that goes around the entire lake. A small company rents stand up paddle boards and kayaks...lots of people on the lake...I counted 15+ paddle boarding on Saturday. There is 5 MPH limit for outboard motors. I see between one and four boats fishing for bass when I'm there (lake also has crappie, bluegill and pike). They tend to work the weed beds, or the outside of the trees / shallow side of the tree lines, away from the deep channel. Most guys are throwing spinner baits and t-rigged plastics. They are covering lots of water...but don't seem to be catching much. I don't see anyone working the creek channels -- that's why I'm concentrating my efforts there. I also see between 4-5 guy fishing from kayaks every time. I've talked to a few of the kayak guys...very inexperienced, just got kayaks, trying to get out of the house due to COVID stuff. They are throwing small crappie jigs. I've suggested worms, spinner baits and such. They are friendly and I'm willing to help a new fisherman get going.

How would you fish this lake(?)
Thanks! I've tried a smaller 7" worm t-rigged, and pitched a jig-n-craw as near the trees as I can get...lots of moss and crap that keep hanging me up. No luck with either presentation. How close to the trees should I be getting? Pitch in and let sink...twitch a few times...let sit...twitch a few more...then pull? Lake is 220 acres, opened in 2018. Last Saturday I worked the vegetation near the creek channels and boated 66 small bass between 9-13". They were hammering the white power grub on small lead head.

Buzzbaits vs other Topwater lures
I really like buzz-baites at first light, and towards end of the day. Chuck-it and reel...bass blow it up! Usually run white or white/chart, no trailer.

How would you fish this lake(?)
Wanahoo and Flanigan lakes in Eastern Nebraska are kinda similar. I am drawn to the standing timber straddling the creek channels. I have had my best luck fishing edge of creek channel near vegetation/weed bed edges. Weed beds are in 3-4 feet of water...creek channels drop to 12-16 feet. Water clarity is 1-2 feet, temps 72-77 degrees the past few weeks. At first light I'm throwing buzz-bait and spinner bait. Simple lead-head jig with white 3" twister tail has been good producer. Have caught a few on Slug-Go, Houdini shad, senko, and t-rigged 7" ribbon tail worm. Jig-n-craw hasn't produced. Tossed a frog but nothing. Here are a few pics of Flanigan. Thoughts, suggestions?

Lower unit stuck, 1974 Merc 20hp
Thanks Alex. I got the locking mechanism fixed on Friday. Merc worked great today at the lake! Only caught 7 today...rough day...no wind, started at 6 AM / 56 degrees and 91% humidity...finished at 1 PM, 90 degrees.

Boat back to 100%, thanks for the help!
Had to make one small fix today...the mechanism that locks the motor from tilting when it's in neutral and reverse was not working. Got it fixed today, and greased up the shift linkage. All good to go. Will have it on the water again tomorrow morning @ 5:30 AM : )

You can't teach courage. You can't teach heart. Etc.
What makes me a good angler? ** I am probably more lucky than good ** 1. I love to research and learn new things (this forum, YouTube, web, talking with other anglers, etc.) 2. Good at preparation / planning 3. Not afraid to admit when I'm wrong...and try something different. 4. I am persistent 5. Willing to work hard and "go the extra mile" I approach deer hunting the same way. Tagged this old Muley on public land in Nebraska. Little bits of preparation, persistence, and hard work...lots of luck : )

- Going cheap when fishing new spots
90% of my stuff is 20+ years old...so I don't worry if I get hung and something gets lost. I do have a lure-retriever...saved many o lure!- Fishing Log example
Agreed! The Canada lodge we fished keeps records on paper...then transfer to Excel every night.- Fishing Log example
Outstanding! Thanks!- Kayak vs Boat
** Edit, it is a Plano Box ** I know it holds three big Plano boxes in the bottom...and five smaller boxes up top (on their sides). The right side has spinner bait racks. I can jam a lot of stuff in there. Have another bag for plastics.- Fisherman's thumb?
I got in to 'em this weekend...found a little weed bed next to a drop off in to a creek channel...hammered the little 9-12" bass for a few hours...and got "bass thumb"! Three different times I put together a string of "three-fish-on-three-consecutive-casts." FUN!- Boat back to 100%, thanks for the help!
- Boat back to 100%, thanks for the help!
It's an old boat, built in 1960...and the Merc is a 1974 20HP. Decided to get it out and running again this summer... Wheel bearing needed replacing...I've owned this boat / motor / trailer set up since 2000. Installed bearing buddies and never replace or replacked them...just filled the buddies and ran. Little soupy in there, but just slight scaring. Replaced plugs...and the engine fired...but no water out of the pump... Hell of a time getting the lower unit off...and then getting the water impeller off....but thanks to the great wisdom here and a few Youtube videos...and it worked! Then the trolling motor housing broke and I was unable to rotate my motor. Google search and I had new parts on the way. That was a little less difficult... Had it out on Saturday and everything worked! Thanks to all for the words of wisdom.- Fishing Log example
Sharing a fishing log I have been refining for 25+ years. Got the idea from a friend who grew up in Wisconsin...her Dad had been logging his fishing trips for 60+ years. Further refined when fishing the Silver Water Wheel Lodge (Canada) for walleye in the 2000's. Fun to go back and read the logs, relive good (and bad) fishing days, and remember the great times on the water. This is just the top 1/2...it's printed on standard 8-1/2"x11" paper. I three-hole punch and keep in a binder in my office. Enjoy. Daubs- Kayak vs Boat
I have my boat set up exactly the way I like it. I have kayaks, but not for fishing. I'll keep the old Rich Line aluminum boat for now... And bonus, My 79 year old Dad can fish with me any time he likes.- Six Must Have Lures
I start the day fishing with 8 rods rigged and ready to roll. I normally try to get to the lake 30-45 minutes before sunrise...get out and get to my spots as it starts to get light. Here are my 6 Must Haves: - Buzz bait at first light, then switch to spinner bait (white or white/chartreuse) - 7" blue fleck power worm, t-rigged | weight pegged - 1/4 swimming jig with white grub - 6" Slug-Go, rainbow trout - Houdini shad, t-rig | weightless - jig-n-craw- Grass/weeds
Years ago we fished one of my uncle's farm ponds...looked a lot like your picture...lots of grass/weeds/shrubs. Back then we threw beetle-spins, Mepps, and swimming jigs...all over the top and in pockets. Caught fish.- Lure trendiness...
I am just getting back in to fishing after 15 years. It is amazing the lures / presentations I used waaaay back then still catch fish today : ) Uncle of mine had a saying...it went something like this... "...most lures are designed to catch fishermen...not fish..." - Going cheap when fishing new spots
