  1. Nice antlers! Deer archery season is almost here, gun season at end of Oct., ML'er at end of Nov. Cleaning up and winterizing the boat today and tomorrow, cleaning up truck on Sat. and then just keeping an eye on stands and monitoring game cam. Out back I've got some of the only oak trees around and they are producing heavy this year, both pear trees are full and dropping as well. Deer will walk thru apples to get to sweet sickle pears Hope everybody has a safe and successful season and some venison to enjoy, I really love tenderloin, backstrap, and jerky. Dave
  2. I also have a pretty and carry it everywhere woods gun. Both are very accurate, short, and fast handling for thick woods and cutovers w/regrowth. I use the same make and power scopes on each one as well, if I had to only use one however it would be the more "used" one that I've taken for so many long walks in the woods and climbs up quite a few trees
  3. That is a really good hat collection..........but don't take this wrong, YOU gotta eat more
  4. I don't use GP at all, tried when it became a thing and it wasn't a bass catcher for me. Rainbow Trout, Crime Scene and Junebug are my three constantly rigged colors. Pink belly on the RT, green flake and maroon color on the CS, and well junebug will always be a winner. I do use watermelon with red or gold sparkles and they have their moment. No one seems to use the RT and I usually clean up with it, only problem is its a hard color to find, GY senkos and Xzone true centers are my only sources anymore. Learned how good they worked back in the sluggo days
  5. For me its not a decision I have to make, If I was living where it could be either I would chose hunting without a doubt. Where I live they close down every place I bass fish on Sept 30, its the law up here. Now with that said I went out this morning to get some last fishing in, temp this morning was 27 degrees (yesterday morning was 25). Had to scrape the ice off truck windows and dress real warm even light weight gloves. Rod guides iced with line conditioner on them, line iced on reel and trolling motor water on deck froze. Eight days ago water temps where 62, this morning 55. Caught a few fish and then slipped on trailer tongue bringing boat in I'd say timing is pretty much right, time to clean the boat and trailer up and put away till next spring. Small game season started last Sat. but I don't fool with that, I'm focused on deer season now. Game cam is showing bucks starting to show up in hard horn so ready for season to begin. I get excited catching a big fish for my area but it happens a lot during season...........its not the adrenaline charged heart pounder that it is when a big buck walks out every so many years. I gauge everything by the pure exicitment rush and fishing is a 5-6, hunting is a 10 Dave
  6. Scavengers they are, respect them but travel in the woods a lot and have seen a bunch but never any trouble. Don't shoot them as I got no use for one and would rather see them in the wild. Tried some a buddy shot and taste didn't appeal to me (did NOT Taste like chicken) My ticket is the same as a big bass in summer......a big alpha buck with non-typical antlers. They hunt bear up here with bait, dogs, and during firearms deer season. They have video of them in the streets of my town on occasion, I've seen tracks right behind house in my woodlot.
  7. I like the bunk glides with poly corners and middle pads. Keeps the carpet from tearing up at corners and makes the boat slide on and off easier. I installed a set and found the boat slides along easier on and off, they also hold the boat up a little to let the bunks dry faster. Little wax every once and a while and well worth the money.
  8. Handloading can open up cheaper ammo and whatever bullet you like. I like nosler accubonds myself, integrity of a parition and a plastic tip for no deforming in magazine and long range accuracy. Same POI and BC as BT but a little tougher on bone.
  9. I'll start it off, been hunting deer since 1964 and have narrowed my choices down to 260 and 7mm-08. My son however likes the 308, all short action and well suited for north woods hunting. I believe the 7mm-08 is one of the best deer rounds available and low recoil/performance is as good as you could want. Our typical hunting up here involves heavy thick woods with a mix of evergreens and hardwood. Deer tend to hang in dense cedar bogs for bedding and cover and shots are normally 25-100yds. What cartridge does everyone use?
  10. We used the last venison up 2 weeks ago, tenderloin and backstrap as well as hindquarter steaks and jerky make me hungry just thinking about it! This morning its 29 and a hard crunchy frost. Going fishing tomorrow morning and that may be it, gonna be 30 again tonight so water temps will be dropping fast. Time to get the boat and trailer cleaned up and ready for winter. Deer are coming in steady to the acorns and apple/pear trees. Fall Is Here.
  11. Mine is 45lbs but is a Minn Kota Edge not copilot or I pilot can't help you there but I;m sure some on here can help you.
  12. Interesting plan for fox blanket, sounds good. Just don't have the fortitude to do the night hunting anymore, thermal units sound expensive as well. Good Hunting Dave
  13. Oh come on! you mean you don't lip em' just to lift them up outta the water ? They tell be that they have come in Maine from Canada and they are working down the Saint Johns river. Give them a couple years to get a little closer and I'll have to get a muskie rig and chuck them enormous lures.
  14. True predator's in Maine would include coyote's top of the list, tried the night hunting but didn't care for the solitude I guess. Lot of baiting done at dusk or night and it's pretty effective but again just wasn't my cup of tea. I thank those that do because on a crust they run deer down in the yards bad. Cutting operations draw deer in winter and coyotes really use trails between dark growth and hardwood's to ambush deer. Friend of mine is logger and he's seen areas with up to a dozen dead deer in a small stretch coming in to the tops. Maybe if I was younger I would use my 22-250 and 7mm-08 heavy barreled guns to sit way back from kills and do some shooting but warm house call's louder A side note I wouldn't shoot foxes if I could.....I like em and up here they are a furbearer.
  15. Up here most open water fishing ends Sept 30 only certain places still legal to fish. Thirties at night bring water temps down fast anyway and my personal best deer hunting so far weighed 224lbs. Its about to be prime time in the woods. Saw first racked buck on last nights cam pics. We'll fish Monday and Wednesday this coming week and that will be it this year.
  16. 27series deep cycle battery, run same troller as yours about 6-7 hours run time depending on what speeds you use most. Come in throw it on 10 amp charger and it takes about 5 hours to charge. Bought mine at Wally World.
  17. I use a lure I have a ton of confidence in and throw it in several colors that usually are my go to's. If I get no attention I usually move and try again, where I fish by mid summer the weeds are so thick it greatly limits my lure choices. It will be weedless plastics of some kind and with 5 rigs set-up I can usually get a pattern figured just changing rods. Its what works for me.
  18. The evaluation was done with T-rigged weightless. Got snake O's and yes being half stickbait lets them cast similar to a normal stickbait but straight rattlesnakes not as well. Never used rattlesnakes wacky rigged, something I must try.
  19. Wacky rigs always seem to work best with a light weight 1/16-1/8 oz on the fall and each time you lift it and let it drop back. When a wacky rig is working theres very little else quite like it.
  20. Looks like a good setup JRob! You can't loose on a rig like that with a trailer and a little fourstroke. you will be like we are, able to go in without much if any launch area and in very little water depth. Boats that are able to get in and around where others don't or can't find some really good fishing at times. We see more kayaks than boats in some of our favorite spots, always careful with wakes and distance but once out in the river or lake we can move several miles back and forth pretty fast. After first mile we never see much in other fishing rigs at all. Nice to fish bass that aren't pressured or hammered on every day. Good Fishing!
  21. Up here in the pine tree state things are changing quickly as fishing wanes and hunting season approaches. Apples and pears are falling now along with acorns, and a killing frost is just around the corner. Got my rifles sighted in and the trail cam has been in use for several weeks, does and yearlings are coming in and the stands are all up and secured. Need to load some ammo for the deer rifles, bear season in swing and moose and grouse season around the corner. Geese are stating to appear behind me on the lake and most feeder birds are headed south now. Trying to get a pic to see if the buck I hunted last year is still around and how much bigger he has gotten, quite a few does and yearlings around this year so the bucks will come during rut. Haven't heard any coyotes this summer so they are in another area I guess, next three or four nights will be in thirties and its time to fish my last couple times next week and then clean up and winterize the boat for the winter. Lucky to have a spot in the garage to keep it thru snowy winter. Well as I get some decent buck pics I'll post em up and you guys south of here continue to keep them lines tight Dave
  22. I'm pretty partial to ribbontail worms currently using BBB Kreat Tail and B2. They work great and are pretty durable for plastics. My favorite and along with a lot of your responses the 5" stickbait is my number 1 fish catcher. Lot of brands out there but I favor senko's and Trick Sticks. Pit Bosses, Sweet Beavers, and large 4-5" grubs all catch their share. Good Fishing and don't be afraid to experiment
  23. TW is a good spot to check out, sale probably knocked inventory down some, but they will build stocks back up. I tend to build up large stocks of the lures I use and terminal tackle and extras as well. I'm down to just needing a reel and rod.....and of course I never have enough line
  24. Yea my post was to assure the OP that weightless senkos would cast fine which seemed to be his question. You will become quite accurate with the spinning rig simply using it with some time. If you hate it and want to get rid of that Dobyns rod however.....PM me
  25. 4-5" Kalin lunker grubs run on top with a 3/0 hook for sure, just cast them out and retrieve steady and they will wake right on top. I usually use an 1/8 or 3/16 oz jighead to run them a little deeper, but with speed the 1/8 oz will still come to surface. They are deadly where bass see all types of large flashly and noisy lures daily but the lowly grub don't get fished as much anymore. Sort of a finesse style bait, I've caught some nice large and smallmouth on grubs.
