  1. I’d rather they choose to push the boundary and try something new than just slap my label on the same products made for 3 other brands. I understand the cost isn’t worth it for some brands, but is the cost of putting out cheap clones worth it either? I’ll never buy a Dobyns reel, and I’m sure they will end up just being sold in Walmart. Okuma has built a new reel on a great platform which has had really positive reviews. If they just got a rebadged Lews Hypermag I guess it might have moved a few units, but I wouldn’t buy one. I will buy a Hakai because I want to support innovation. Far to many brands are just ripping off each other. I get you’ll fail 75% of the time or more when doing something new and innovative, but when you succeed you move the sport forward. Products like the Gilly and dark sleeper clones frustrate me as a consumer. Instead of trying to improve a product you get a factory in china to pump out clones so you can hawk them on YouTube.
  2. Part of me wants brands to branch out into new stuff, but if this is another doyo built reel I’ll pass.
  3. If EG had made those rods without the camo I bet they would have better sales. I think they look awful. I’ve wanted the 7’8” wake bait rod forever but won’t buy it because of the look. Also just give us some of those sweet JDM lines please!
  4. Punch gives 15% off the price. Premium gives 10% cash back. So if you use punches code and have premium you’ll get both offers. If you only use the Summer20 code you get 20% off.
  5. Use punch fishings code and you also get 10% back from premium. So effectively 25% off but the usual exclusions apply. I was on the fence with premium but if you spend at least $300 a year it pays for itselfs, and after that it’s just straight discounts. This summer site wide sale is different and the first time I’ve seen them let the discount hit the big brands. MB is still excluded though which is a bummer.
  6. Premium doesnt snag Loomis. The current promo hits both Shimano and Loomis.
  7. What is the url? Google keeps pulling up an outdoor gear shop which doesn’t carry tackle.
  8. Do you know what line is the most recent release? Is the Fate line better/worse than the Omen?
  9. I don’t blame them, but it’s the same issue with 13 I’m running into. I’m not a novice consumer of tackle, but I’d be extremely hard pressed to tell you the difference between any lines of either brand. I can tell you the difference between all of the fresh water sticks from St. Croix, Loomis, Megabass, Dobyns, Abu, and even boutiques like Witch Doctor rods.
  10. They still sell it in multiple lines, I’m very hesitant to buy a Lews rod though. Never owned one and the fact they sell them at Walmart throws me for a loop. Found a KVD style one at 6’10”, and a white one at 6’8”.
  11. Considering how attendance has dropped and vendors have pulled out of the show I wouldn’t be surprised if it folds. Watch coverage of 2019 and compare it to last year. A third of the floor was empty and most manufacturers releases their new product teasers weeks or a month in advance.
  12. I’m guessing out of production?
  13. I noticed while looking around a couple websites that 13 fishing has a number of 6’7” short handled casting rods. It looks like a M and MH in multiple lines. My question is does anyone have experience with these, and what are the newer/better lines in 13 fishing? I’ve never tried the brand but at ~$100 I’m willing to give them a shot. I tried finding information on the blanks, guides, etc and ended up getting a bunch of some guys YouTube channel talking about the rods. He’s obviously a rep or sponsored by them, prefer to hear how they stack up from y’all.
  14. I own the 7’4 H Glass and it’s amazing. I think the Rebellion line compares nicely to the BLX line which is $400. You don’t get titanium SIC guides, but the x45 wrap and fit and finish are great. Daiwa just needs to reboot the Tatula Elite line with the new AGS trimmings and I’ll be super intrigued.
  15. Totally though his finesse footballs were down to an 1/8th. My mistake.
  16. Nearly all shops will discount Loomis if you call. ALF did this for me, but not all shops apply their discount online to those items. Summerland will allow the 20-30% off code for whatever holiday hit Loomis without asking them first. No one advertises these or they lose the chance to sell the brand. If there is a 4th sale at Summerland the discount is store wide minus kayaks. For me paying in person means 10% sales tax. Shopping online at retailers who don’t charge that is a 10% discount off the top. I’ll only buy some small baits and such at shops locally, anything over $30 is bought online.
  17. I agree, these are fantastic river jigs. Go as light as you can for the current.
  18. I normally don’t agree with a lot of member programs but Omnia has been solid for me. They run 15% sales monthly through punch fishing on YouTube, and I get cash back on every purchase. Plus they’re still a little guy so I’m happy to support them. Another gem has been Summerland Outdoors GA. They almost always give you their discounts on Loomis and Megabass without having to call them and do the whole back channel deal.
  19. I won’t support a company who constantly takes over a week to ship orders they show as in stock. TW will never get another order from me because they aren’t dependable. Omnia, TTT, The Hookup, Digitaka, and many more don’t give me the headaches TW does. The fact they don’t do any sort of return buyer points, promos, or early access is the nail in the coffin.
  20. It’s how things are. I’m still not 100% which sites are banned, but usually around sale time you’ll see new folks hit the filter. It’s been a thorn for me on multiple occasions as sometimes I’m looking for a small shop or anyone not TW and worry I’m going to trip the filters. In the past I think certain brands were also blocked, but honestly I can’t be sure. I feel like if you post anything prohibited it just flags for the mods to double check you’re not trying to circumvent the rules.
  21. When the rod is light enough I’d argue balance doesn’t matter. My NRX+ 893 and 873 aren’t “balanced” but are better to fish than my Orochi XX rods which balance well.
  22. It’s a toss up. They both palm really well, but I like the slightly more round side plate on the Zillion. The rear portion just fits my hands better.
  23. Quick side by side. Don’t have a tape measure handy to give you exacts but overall size on both Shimano and Daiwa is smaller. The Abu might win in total height, but not by much and definitely not width or weight.
  24. I own a JDM 20 Metanium, 18 Bantam, and 21 Zillion all purchased through Digitaka or AsainPortalFishing. I’ve owned and used multiple Abu’s, Lews, and Shimano reels as well so I feel like I have a solid grasp of what each brand offers. I’ve put them all through almost an entire year of tourneys and the Zillion is the clear winner, and I wasn’t expecting that. I’ve been a hardcore Metanium guy for a long time as the JDM version was such a great value. I’ve just this spring sold 4 Mets and started moving into only Zillions for my general purpose reels. Things to pay attention too about these reels: The new tech is starting to move down the lines. The Tatula 80/70 both have the full suite of Hyper stuff. For your cases the 70 with the SV spool could work. It’s a JDM Alphas with a new color and spider badge. Daiwa hasn’t released the Zillion HD stateside yet, and until they do the JDM version looks fantastic. Brass gears, power handle, and the hyper things in a 7oz package. Use PayPal when possible on JDM sites to eliminate pending charges or holds. Since it’s a purchase out of country sometimes the vendor or your card company will flag the purchase. I’ve always used PayPal and it’s been flawless and gives you peace of mind. The only reason I own an Abu at this point is the 5 speed in a left hand for deep cranking. The nice thing is both Daiwa and Shimano release 5 speeds in their JDM lines, just waiting for a Zillion HLC with a deep spool.
  25. I would argue JDM style is actually two parts. The physical styling on the rod and the action of the blank. Most JDM actions are built for their style of fishing which is much more commonly from the bank. They also prefer more moderate actions as they don’t use many heavy power techniques. You’ll often find shorter rods with unique tapers. As far as looks JDM rods are almost always better. Nicer handles, better guide placement and wraps, as well as balance.
